Although I like the concept, I still prefer the "Bat Barakah" (for Christian girls) and the "Bar Barakah" (for Christian boys). It can take up to 2 years of preparation, but it makes them really understand the commitments and it brings them to a closer relationship with God through Christ.
Federally funded? Why the hell do waste tax dollars on these pointless abstinence pledges as opposed to teaching about STD's and safe sex. God save us all.
Federally funded, that's fucking great. Ok, time for some reality: 88% of pledgers have sex before marriage (as opposed to 99), 6x more likely to engage in oral (which is flabbergasting to anyone over 17 who's ever had a girlfriend), 4x more likely to engage in anal sex. When pledgers do have sex, they're far less likely to use condoms, which causes, guess what, STDS. You can't teach kids not to have sex and how to have safe sex at the same time. Waste of money, causes a lot of unneeded guilt
I feel sorry for that girl when she said "And I really don't want one". Well, honey, don't go crying to daddy when you get married and get STDs from your husband because no one ever told you how to protect yourself. Sheesh. When are people gonna learn? PREACHING ABSTINENCE DOESN'T WORK! Palins daughter had a baby, yet Palin wants to keep on teaching abstinence only in schools! What the ****! O_O
I think that rules were made to be broken and I think that everybody should have sex with as many people as they possibly can. You only go around once in this life, and as long as everybody takes a shower, I don't know what the big deal is.
Lol there is little you know what our government spends our money on. They give money to churches, faith-based initiatives. Also they recognize churches as non-profit organizations when if you go to Utah and see the Mormon temple you will see they make LOADS of money.
Talk to this girl and her brother in a few years to gauge how successful this pledging of submission to patriarchal christianity was.
Studies have shown that a staggering 88% of abstinent teens are sexually active, and are often more likely to contract stds or have unplanned pregnancies
What is this, the 15th century? They did this kinda bull shit wayy back when, now a days it should be your own buisness who/and when you get your freak on,otherwise you christians need to keep your damned noses out of the kids relationships, marriages, and worst of all, love life!!
doubletakeproduction your a fucking idiot. everyone knows having sex is one of the best ways of burning calories. all these kids are gonna be obeste by the time their 20. by 22 they'll die of heart atacks.
Individuals who have sex before marriage report lower levels of sexual satisfaction in marriage than those who abstained until marriage. So if burning calories is all your interested in when having sex your missing out!
How can you say this is creepy? These kids are saving themselves not only for marriage, but also from heartbreak. They protect not only theyre health, but theyre heart and emotions. When they finally do get married, they will have a whole heart to give theyre husband. I can see you not agreeing its for you, but I honestly cant see what fault you find in it for others.
if it involves my tax dollars i can say whatever the hell i want. i think they're setting up these girls for a rude awakening. and as far as protecting their health... a study showed that over an eight year period on some of these girls that took the pledge all maintained they're promise to obstain from VAGINAL sex. BUT most of them engaged in ANAL and ORAL sex w/o a condom due to no prior knowledge of sex education. yay for purity balls.
what makes you think it was a church event? Just because one family interviewed talked about their reason for being there doesn't make it a church event.
omg, that is ridiculous! That's not human nature. Why not spend all that time and energy teaching kids how to make good choices and behave responsibly with REASONABLE expectations on the part of the parents.
I'd rather see my daughter be discriminating and self controlled, and when she asks for birth control, I can send her to the gynocologist knowing she's equipped with good decision making abilities and will be receptive to info on safe sex and contraception. This is 2008!!!!
Actually, my house is in pretty good shape - 5 grown successful children, all of whom are college graduates with professional careers. The are happily married to great spouses. I'm an obstetric nurse, and my spouse is an OB/Gyn. We've pretty much got the teen sex thing figured out. Sure, applaud their abstinance if they so desire, but equip them with information about contraception and safe sex too. It's all about choices and common sense.
if people wanna do that, hey, that's their choice...
but I think it's wrong to not have any kind of discussion with your kids, especially about transmitted diseases... just because your child waits until marriage, does not mean that the person they married has, which doesn't ensure that they won't contract HIV or other diseases.... abstinence alone is unsafe, if you want to teach abstinence only, teach it along with protecting yourself during sex.
at least this one is for boys AND girls not only for girls....
