  • I have Avascular Necrosis. I was born with it and other complex medical conditions. My birth mother had diabetes her whole life and when i was just forming in the womb she had a very low or high blood sugar and that is how they think i got it because of the way she didnt manage her blood sugars....

  • can very heavy lifting at workplace cause avn in a 23 yrs old patient with no underline problems? i dont drink, or smoke, or take anything, never had trauma.. nothing never!

  • well i have taken steroids and i drink too and i have been diagonosed with AVA

  • Dude the diseases and sicknesses these days keep getting worse and worse :/ sorry for all those who have to under go surgery "if" you do

  • I am a 34 year old female that has been told after a recent MRI that I do have AVN in my right hip. I have never taken steroids or have any other condition that needed these meds (other than an unrelated condition-interstital cystitis). I suspect the reason I have this-is because when I was 9-I had legg perthes in my right hip (which is basically the same condition but in children). Maybe I am prone to get this?

Anyone else that had legg perthes as a kid also have this as an adult (AVN)?

  • Thank you for this video. More than half of the people in our organization, The ON/AVN Support Group Int'l Association, have steroid-induced AVN. Most of us with steroid-induced AVN have the disease in multiple joints and far too many of us have multiple joint replacements as well. Please keep putting the word out: Steroids can, and do, cause AVN.

  • Well I believe I hace this after looking at the xrays and the the disappearing of my bone. The doctor hasn't come out and told me yet either. I have an MRI soon for both hips to make sure that it is only one side. I'm only 22. I took a really heavy cycle of prednisone this summer. I gained 20 lbs in about a week. I stopped the cycle before I was suppose to. Now I due drink and use to drink alot more. But I was also very active. The doctor said it was the prednisone that did me in.

  • This is the first answer I've encountered that did NOT include "Heavy Alcohol Use". I've been told by several doctors that... Because I drank at a "Medium Light" consumption is the reason I have this.

Although I didn't get drunk (much) I DID drink every evening due to a stressful period in my life. This period lasted for about... 3 years! Yikes!

Just FYI for those who are young like me (43 yrs old) and need hip replacement as a result of drinking!

    Just think about it! ok?

  • I am Grace Emlano. For almost 7 years, I never care on how I walk. I noticed that my left leg is smaller. Before, it is okey for me...until I felt mild pain on my left leg...mild to severe pain. This pain never let me fell asleep. I consulted three doctors. They have the same diagnosis...I am suffering from avascular necrosis of left femoral head.

  • Before, I have self denial. When I heard the solution, it is surgery. I was almost shocked to hear the cost of the surgery...it is almost half a million Philippine peso. I hope there are someone with good heart who could sponsor for this operation even for a small amount...i will appreciate it...please help me...thanks and God bless.

  • i never met anybody else with it other than one time i met two ladies at pain management with it. but they had lupus or some disease. they looked as if they had already died and somebody forgot to tell them. god the pain i have suffered. twenty years now and i still dont know how i caught it. i wished i had somebody to talk to about it????????

  • ive had it for almost twenty years now and both hips replaced. by the time the doctors found it both hips had already collapsed!!! thanks doctors

  • She was on 120 mg prednisone a day, for about 2 months, and was just beginning to taper when diagnosis of the AVN was made. The dose was typical for her diagnosis (juvenile dermatomyositis) and weight. She hopes to have plastic surgery this summer to repair the damge to her skin and tissue. (she appears like someone who has lost 200 pounds, not 50. Needs breast and abdominal surgery fot the hanging loose skin)/

  • My daughter had severe AVN of both hips, both knes after 2 months of high dose steroids. She had to go thru major surgeries, in a wheelchair for 5 months. Just awful what steroids can do....

  • What type of steroids was she on?

  • aka osteonecrosis can be devastating for sure! Steroids are evil and not enough is done to warn people of this risk. Even small doses/duration can cause it...but early detection is key so that bone preserving surgeries can be performed. If you have a history of steroids, and your joints hurt, an MRI will find it sooner than an x-ray. If you have it in one joint and steroids are responsible, PLEASE evaluate other major joints for AVN/ON and early treatment.

  • this is very sad to me because i know i already do not have very much pelvic bone near this left hip socket and last years xray denoted changes in the pubic bone in front as well..please feel free to comment--i have done bone disease research for nearly 3 years almost every sunday-but this is my first video library of research, preety good ,huh?
