  • I really liked this song but all in all I did not care for the LP at all. Aside from this track and the lead song, I found Minstrel in the Gallery very weak. Later I see that it is an artistic and poetic work in the vein of Aqualung and Thick as a Brick (two albums I really love) but Minstel never did anything for. The following albums were much better....

  • "Fertile earth-mother, your burial mound is fifty feet down in the Baker Street underground." Ian is a fuckin' genius!

  • 5:04 Yeah man, thats it! Love that moment to death, this song might be overlong but it has some awesome moments right there. Many beautiful and rocking moments to be found throughout

  • Please take me seriously when I say that this is the best song ever made. Of any genre.

  • Comment removed

  • I always thought the lyric was...."Oh mr policeman.....blue shirt belly mustard....."

  • "Shit, shit, shit. Take two."

  • Why is there two dislikes? Also, why is there only a little over 38,000 views after more than two years of this posted? Maybe people are unaware of this tune being on YouTube or most people have poor taste.

  • i never liked war child to much went back and listened to queen and country mediocre at best. where every song is enjoyable on this album for me

  • I seen this tour in 75,great as all the other 33 tull shows i seen

  • awesoe stuff. love this albumn. When we had albumns. 197'something . Forget the nigger-shit. Concentrate on real music. Wake the fuck up

  • @redace01 I wouldn't say its so small, just unappreciated by mainstream Hall of Fame-type assholes. God Bless!

  • Superb,

  • this music has no time....it just goes on and on

why question this...just listen and shut the fuck up...just listen asshole you just might learn something...

  • I dont understand how this dosent have 100,000 views...

  • After a couple of years listening to Tull I stumbled on this song back in 1985 and improved my listening capacities to a higher level. A milestone in my musical life.

  • awesome post ty

  • i can't understand why there isn't a guitar tab for this song

  • 15 yrs. old. And a huge Tull fan, I've known their music since I was just a kid thanks to my dad who has seen Tull live more than 8 time. They are the only band that never gets old for me, and always bring me memories from haning out with my dad when I was younger.

  • @raidernation173

    i absolutely agree...

  • @raidernation173 Great band. I saw them in Honolulu back in about 1971 and they are to this day the best live performers I have ever seen. I've seen scores of artists live...No one close to these guys.

  • @clyde8her was at that concert as well Anderson is truly a great performer

  • "In the doorway of the stars, between Blanford St. and Mars......

Flowing generous and full...to his ever-ready tool....pulls his eyes over her wool- - -and he shudders as he cums..." lol......pure poetic genius!

  • Black Satin Dancer!!.....giving is the answer!!!..............Minstrel in the Gallery is arguably Tulls' best. So there!

  • Beautiful.

  • Is there any live versions of this?

  • Favorite song..favorite album...1975 was a great year

  • I haven't heard this in years. Amazingly I still remember all the lyrics. Great song! Love it. Bring back lots of memories. . .

  • Perfect album if you disclude Black Satin Dancer.

  • I didn't like Black Satin Dancer at first, but now I think it's a beautiful song =)

  • @Aqualung1989 Same here; I think Black Satin Dancer is great.

  • @CaptainHollyShort

I'd say it's the best song on the album

  • @PimpTasticBling

You agree with a comment I made 35 years ago.

    :)

  • @PimpTasticBling Well, I wouldn't actually go that far. I still think either Minstrel or Cold Wind to Valhalla would get that distinction.

  • @Aash1999 {see below}

  • @Aash1999 "Disclude Black Satin Dancer" you say?- - - Would you disclude Locomotive Breath from Aqualung?....or Queen and Country from Warchild? I am glad it's there. Think of it as Ians' way of throwing in one of his surprises like in other songs from other albums. 'Different' without being too 'distant'. A nice little 'aside' if you will.

  • @Aash1999 nope.

  • fertile earth-mother, your burial mound

is fifty feet down in the Baker Street underground.

    i love that line (:

    this song is just brilliant!

  • What a killer musical piece. Jethro Tull are unequaled in their collective talents.

Thank you Ian for your artistry!

  • this album is an absolute masterpiece. I listen to a decent selection of music (primarily heavy metal) but i cant think of any other album that is quite as breathtaking as Minstrel in the Gallery

  • Wikipedia says that there's a part called "Nice Little Tune". I don't see that in the lyrics. Does anybody know what "Nice Little Tune" is?

  • There is and it is an instrumental part which starts......at 6:34,

so go to part 2, this song is made of 5 parts; Baker Street Muse, Pig-me and the whore, Nice little tune, Crash-barrier waltzer and Mother England reverie............

  • @Manegi2 Nice Little Tune is probably my favorite part from my favorite Tull song of all time. god I love that melody.

  • One of my favorites from way back. I think it's one of their very best but much overlooked. Thanks so much for posting.

  • yeah, beautiful track this. i totally agree

  • For those who have read The Tunnel (aka The Outsider) by Sábato, they'll find a few lyrical coincidences here ;)

  • Funny that I borrowed this album from Johnny Marr (yes, of The Smiths), who I was at school with, and, I'm ashamed to say, never returned (sorry Johnny!). Still got it.!

  • this is my favorite jethro tull's song. i hope there will be live performance of this song

  • if you've ever been to London you'll know all those streets mentioned in 'pig me and the whore' are all spot on when you travel down baker st.

  • wonderfull song ever!!!

  • made me shivvvvvvre ian's voice an insturment

  • It is really nice to see such positive comments on one of the the finest and greatest composers of our time, Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull. I have seen JT over 25 times since 72 and I have to say they are the best live band I've seen. It's good to see that there are still a lot of JT fans out there. I'm glad there are still people out there who appreciate excellent music. Please keep up the new and old Jethro Tull posts...

  • i am 200% filled with jealousy, Im only 20 years old and have recently discovered Tull. I have never heard a band so talented and beautiful sounding. I believe they have ruined music for me since nothing i have heard can compare.

They have skipped to the top of my must see bands. now they just need to come to toronto. I feel like i missed something wonderful, i need to see them

  • spyne666 (

Be inspired, not defeated feeling. Make new music inspired by Tull.

    Tom in Utica NY

  • @spyne666 Just ran across your note. Hope you still feel the same. I'm on the other end of the time spectrum (60 trs. old) and have enjoyed the hell out of all good music from 1958 on. I've had many favorites over the years and been asked, in conversation by nearly all musicians, if I'm a musician. Having been a Tull fan from the beginning, I finally moved them a few yrs. ago, into my top respected spot of all time. Ian's writing is truly genius!

  • @spyne666 heavuier stuff.... but the only band that has ever had the heart and talent of Tull is another Brit band...Iron Maiden.. still going strong as ever.... check out their new CD final frontier.... When the Wild Wind Blows ...could very well have fit on a Tull Record..... Steve Harris ...bassist and founder of Maiden...has given credit to Tull and is an amazing songwriter himself... I find similarities in their songwriting..my 2 favorite bands (and Maiden will tour next yr)

  • @spyne666 hey check out Rush, theyre your hometown heroes

  • @spyne666 Just saw them last night in Sydney and they have lost NOTHING. Shit hot concert!

  • @spyne666

sadly, seeing the band now is not like it was...ians voice is fading...the band is is martin barre and some kids...good band yes, but with the voice sounding a bit like popeye the sailor,it doesnt quite recapture 1973..i reccomend you tube ..some great versions of my god...and the tull tapes are not to be missed..1973 my young friend....

  • Baker Street Muse must be the best they have ever done. Tull's Supper's Ready!!!

  • Tull's Thick As A Brick surpasses Supper's Ready on every aspect though.

  • Great song. One of Ian's best. Great arrangement.

  • one of the best Tull songs.

  • A long time favorite of mine too.

The entire 'Minstrel In The Gallery' album is classic Tull. Very few bands have ever possessed the level of musicianship and creativity of Jethro Tull.

The progressive rock group YES is another favorite of mine. I used to like them more than J.Tull, but overtime I have switched that opinion. I now think Jethro Tull is perhaps the greatest rock band of all time.

I'd like to thank Aqualung1989 for posting this.

  • This is the greatest song of all time in my opinion. It represents everything Tull has ever meant to me, which is an immeasurable amount. The range of emotions this song takes me through is unmatched by any other song. It has always been and will always be my favorite song off my favorite album ever, the incomparable Minstrel in the Gallery. Thanks for finally posting so I can listen to it at work!!!

  • "From the typing pool goes the mini-skirted princess, with great finesse. Fertile earth mother, your burial ground is 50 feet down in the baker street underground." -- still produces chills after all these years.

  • Jethro tull rocks! One of the best rock bands ever exist on a planet that unfortunately holds very few musiacal talents like them.

  • YA! TULL STG.

  • Tull is the bomb..... They are forever

  • wut a great song

  • "how come no one has posted a comment on this AMAZING SONG?"

Speaking for meself - cuz I just found it mate. A classic.

  • The second part of the song is in the video response.

  • Easily one of the best Tull songs.

  • how come no one has posted a comment on this AMAZING SONG? 92 views? why doesn't people of today enjoy real music!? :D
