every1 has their favs of miss marple and joan hickson was not mine, altho she does a great job. i prefer geraldine mcewan & margaret rutherford followed by julia mckenzie. so what if ppl discuss their favs. there are far worst things being posted by folks on yt. now THAT mess it what should be considered unacceptible, shameful, as well as a "smh" moment. bitch and lament about THAT.

Talking a lot here but out of 108,540 people, 119 respond. Couldn't you show the kindness of showing respect for someone who has taken the time and made the effort of sharing this with us to put a thumbs up or down? In this day and age people tend to take things for granted. My vast opinion and all but please take a few seconds to show you are thankful. . or not! lol :) Songs
Can anyone tell me what are the make of these black cars used in so many of the British period pieces? / Haven't seen this but my first thought is, "a pocket full of rye." lol And that young secretary doesn't seem very upset after seeing her employer being chocked like that. She didn't do one thing to help him. Odd.
I am uspet! How can a british say that David Suchet embodies Agatha's Poirot? This is obviously false! Agatha figured out a totally different character and a totally different atmosphere. Suspense is totally absent here. Agatha is the queen of suspense. Where is suspense in Suchet's movies? They are only pictoresque! If She had watched so boring a movie like this one she would not have appreciated it.
I LOVE the Miss Marple introduction, it's so wonderfully eerie in an English village sort of way, especially the lady behind the curtains... It's so well conceived, and the music fits its superbly.
@ericarachelmercer i think you may be mixed up with 4.50 from Paddington. In the book for pocketful of rye there were sons Percival and Lance and daughter Elaine. Elaine isn't in the film.
@sitithesecond Elaine is not included in the film. I do not think she is missed. Unlike the recent Marples, the creators here knew when to prune judiciously. They also removed excess characters from "Nemesis".
@colorpurpleblue yes i noticed it too that almost all the Poirot films have recently been taken off the tube. First Murder in Mesopotamia soon after i started watching (2 months or so ago) and now they've all gone. Pity!
what happened to alfred the second son and his wife...there were three sons in the book and a few more deaths in the family...the book is always soooo much better but I still enjoy the movies
Yippie! Now that is the way to start a mystery film! No messing around, no endless background, no character building. Just a rich, important slob who gives cheap flowers to his goddess secretary, then laughs, makes, a phone call, and dies a hideous death.
Thanks for the upload; I would enjoy two episodes of Miss Marple every day of the year, so get to filming, Julia McKenzie! As for the poem in this episode, it's a very interesting read on Wikipedia, and I didn't realize it has so much history, or was so very old. Check it out.
@270288qwerty, oh I agree. It's fun to discover their differences in portraying the character, isn't it? I enjoy them all, and Miss Marple has got me crocheting again (though she knits). Happy viewing!
Sing a song of sixpence, A pocket full of rye. Four and twenty blackbirds, Baked in a pie. When the pie was opened, The birds began to sing; Wasn't that a dainty dish, To set before the king? The king was in his counting house, Counting out his money; The queen was in the parlour, Eating bread and honey. The maid was in the garden, Hanging out the clothes; When down came a blackbird And snapped off her nose.
I hate to say it, but I really prefer Geraldine in this role, if only because I enjoy her wit and empathy. Keep in mind I have not read the books and I am in my 20s, but independently of those precursors I just enjoy a character who seems wise and good, and not quite so judgmental as Joan comes off.
yah/ yer Right. Joan comes off more like the 'intellectual,' more 'stylized' sleuth and played that style character exceedingly well.
But Geraldine took the character much more humanely. No less the sleuth; no less the brains; she had an exper'd older woman's empathetic heart.
Also she portrayed the reliable [& 'the same' sort of] 'take-no-prisoners' courage! Most comforting! [Which also seems to accompany 'aged'] (for those of us lucky enuf to get [t]here.
The new Miss Marple (2009) is an improvement on the last one, but no one is even in the same league as Joan Hickson. And with the likes of Tom Wilkinson in the cast...why indeed do they waste time on remakes?
And the theme is the perfect English murder theme.

I can't stand her. They need to keep looking. Its impossible to stay awake with the new one. I don't care for Joan Hickson, she is very cold, and never delivers her lines with any emphasis. But the new one isn't even worth watching. Geraldine! Come back.
i wouldn't mind the remakes so much if they went so far beyond the true sense and feeling of the books. i don't care what anyone says, geraldine mcewan's miss marple is not anything CLOSE to how christie wrote the character. the character as she played her may be fantastic in another series, but she simply is NOT miss marple. i don't think many viewers realize that, and it makes me wonder if they are simple fans of the movies, and not fans of the books.
That's totally how I feel. Geraldine is not the Marple AC wrote, though I do enjoy the films if I try to forget they are supposed to be based on the books.
@JediMasterCheryl - new versions are NEVER a waste. There's always room for fresh insight. And Ms. Hickson was a great Miss Marple, but certainly not the best.
@jmac049 That's why we're all different. Otherwise, Huxley's 'Brave New World' would be a reality...although it hasn't happened yet but we're getting mighty close. I don't have to agree with you but can respect your statement at the same time. Thank you for not being one of those hateful commenters who vilify the person instead of the remark. That is very respectful and vastly appreciated.
@JediMasterCheryl I like you Jed. Too right what you say about discussing the story instead of going after a person you might or might not agree with. It's the sad thing about YT that so many children can lie about their ages and come on to torment people with their comments.Even if I don't agree with a person, I'd rather discuss a subject than just be called names which is what most young people do. Have you been called, "gay" yet? lol I've been called all sorts of things. No big woop anymore.
Lordy! They've mixed up the actresses for Miss Grosnover and Mary Dove!

Yes, we've had a few increasingly dreary and unlikely Miss Marples since the grande dame Joan Hickson.

I can't understand most of the words that the mumble-mouth assistant detective says. Kind of ruins the film as I lose some of the clues.
