Not all is gone, The body shell, suspension, steering, running gear etc can still all be restored :) , The gearbox can be repaired if damaged. Just need new engine, electrics, interior fittings cockpit.
Hell, replace them every year, the hoses are cheap. But make sure that your fuel filter is on the supply side of the fuel pump regardless of the filter, plastic or metal, you use. Any breach of the pressure side of the pump is a call for disaster. Plastic filters tend to flex with pressure until they burst. Use real hose clamps, not zip ties, and make sure you have no leaks in your tank.
Prevent this. #1: ALL fuel lines replaced every 5 years with hose clamps at EVERY connection. #2: Be sure the carbie nipple is secure. PULL ON IT..HARD. WIGGLE IT. PULL AGAIN. ANY fire that occurs in the engine bay can be extinguished as long as the fuel lines are not the cause. HOSE CLAMPS HOSE CLAMPS and keep that fuel filter away from the engine and before the fuel pump. These things are fire time bombs without respecting those lines. Love your bus.
sad day to see the old friend go up in a flame of death. But nice thing is you can become the Dr. and revive it to life. A little work and it will be back on the road.
Vw owners please put your fule filter under your gas tank not and not next to your carb. Most vw fires are cause the fule filter breaks and leaks gas all over the motor.

I can't look at this. And Karen Carpenter really makes it THAT much sadder. You should have helped him.

Hey @NinezeroPlayer, you must drive some V8 caprice with 22" rims ruining the atmosphere. Hater! Your ignorance is "awesome".

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We have the capability. Better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster.

Just sold my old 1982 Vanagon today. :(
The buyer plans to fix it up. I had a broken fuel line but it didn't burn. VW owners - check your fuel lines!

What caused the fire?

I hope you didn't junk it. That looks like an easy fix. A guy in the club's bug burn up and it took him about 2 years to get it back to where it was.
