@sillyboydeux When I first started listening to Callas and heard her scales and roulades, I felt that since she had a heavier voice the lighter sopranos would be even more seamless. To this day I haven't found any such example. Hallstein and Gueden come very close IMO but not close enough. I don't know how she does it.
seriously, I get to the end of this track..and she's just thrilling the hell out of me with every breath...and then the very end comes...she takes care of business and you're left thinking " no one will ever do it again. not ever."
This is incredible ! When you think that a few months before this recording, Callas was performing as Turandot in Buenos Aires ... and Brünhilde (Walkyria) and Elvira (i Puritani) in Venice, the last two in alternation ...
Callas en pleine possession de ses moyens vocaux fait étalage de sa technique lui permettant de se jouer des difficultés de la partition. En écoutant bien cet enregistrement on entend déjà dans la sonorité sa future Armida de Firenze en 1952! Merci mille fois.
One of Callas' great skills was her abilty to handle the different technical and stylistic demands of various styles - Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini, French, etc. This shows her great skill as a Rossini singer. This is quite an acomplishment. Singing Rossini is very different from the other bel canto composers (Bellini, Donizetti) and most singers who excell in one are not as good in the others
I can't find this recording reviewed in Ardoin's The Callas Legacy - what year was it released?

Audio non perfetto,ma migliore di tanti altri riferiti alla Callas.Qui sul piano vocale è strepitosa, inarrivabile.
