"Putting Words Together" from the Final Fantasy Tactics A2 OST is more or less the most inspiring piece i've heard in my short life. hearing it never fails to bring me a profound sense of calm.
By the way, thumbs up (not for the sake of myself getting into the highest rated comments, but for the sake of Final Fantasy!) if you think Hitoshi Sakimoto and Nobuo Uematsu should pair up and compose together for Final Fantasy XV. Final Fantasy X was the pinnacle imo (in music and in everything else) and consisted of Uematsu and two other composers.. but imagine the imagination of Uematsu paired with the skill and versatility of Sakimoto.. exhilarations.....
Sakimoto is the most incredible composer I have ever come across. His music is powerful, yet not conformist (classical music). Although he isn't original and sounds like John Williams and other past classical composers like Mozart/Beethoven, he's still the best I have listened to. He took from those composers and created something better; again, although not original, he surpassed them (in sound at least- imo) in doing that.
And despite all this, I still fav. Uematsu for his imagination :p
I know its a matter of personal preference, but I think its awesome that the Final Fantasy series are giving other composers a chance to make future FF soundtracks besides just using Uematsu all the time.
Hey, it happened with Tetsuya Nomura. Amano was the original character designer for the FF games until Square desided to give others a chance to make characters for their future FF titles and look what the fuck happened. Tetsuya's characters brought the FF series up the scale.
Great interview! Two suggestions: Make the subtitles a bit LARGER, (please!!!!) and.....how did Mr. Sakimoto become a composer? (I have 3,000 melodies....but no venue to get paid for them! Help! How do I start? (No car, real difficult to get around...not much for school. Living in Western state in USA) THANKS!!!!!!! : )
Sakimoto-san Got into the industry when it was still very very young. And just ended up still here 20 years later. Back then It was easier to get in and around.
uematsu is better in my eyes and ears listnen to ff 7 ff8 ff9 battle themes man those are pieces of art the same gose for the characters theme like squalls theme thats brilliant hes good though i just preffere ueamtsu :P
The Vagrant Story soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks out there. What he Final Fantasy XII has done is simply brilliant. I was very pleased, Hitoshi the Final Fantasy XII soundtrack could make. He will take place at every situation the right song and so he creates an unbelievable atmosphere. So awesome.
I know the soundtracks from Yasunori Mitsuda's Chrono Trigger/Cross and Masashi Hamauzu's Saga Frontier 2 they are also great. Specialy Chrono Trigger/Cross. I have very much original soundtracks from these old games. I love this old gamesoundtracks so much. :-)
He just summarized the whole Final Fantasy series in there, "Its the thrill of discovering the unknown" that keeps us going to play Final Fantasy. I hope he makes more FF soundtracks.
This man's music changed my life in 2001 when I heard the Vagrant Story Soundtrack. Same with Breath of Fire 5 in 2004, Final Fantasy Tactics in 2007, and now XII has inspired me too.
I wish he could know how my days at work are enjoyable due to his work.. god bless this man's talent.
Sakimoto rocks and this is awesome. Going by his comments about Cerobi Steppe, he knows how his music will affect the user...which is great--that tune is probably my favorite of FFXII.
Sakimoto is brilliant and a true visionary at the helm of modern video game music. I have never seen him talk before so this video is very exciting! Very insightful interview.
Absolutely! I just uploaded the Bubble Ghost soundtrack for the game boy, which was Sakimoto's 2nd work. I've been a big fan of Verytex's music as well. I had never thought to look the composer up and it's nice knowing how successful he has turned out to be. :)

You should look into Yasunori Mitsuda's Chron Trigger/Cross or Masashi Hamauzu's Saga Frontier 2 among others
