  • I heard from a numbe rof guys who were in the military though that while they never had much problem with their rifles jamming (somewhat regular maintenance should be everyones priority), the prob was with the 5.56. It was inconsistent to them. Sometimes it would put a target down one shot, wounded or dead. Other times they had to hit a guy repeatedly just to slow him down, cause the bullets would zip through like an ice pick. Paul Howe himself said the same thing. Opinions ppl?

  • I would hate to clean this sucker haha

  • M4 feed ramps and barrel extension on cmmg?

  • If your M16 constantly jammed on you in Desert Storm it was because of your own incompetence as a soldier. Plus, there was hardly any triggerpulling in that war unless you were in some kind of specialized force. The claims of "jamming everytime" instantly loses credibility w/ me. An M16 does not jam everytime but An AK47 is going to have poor ergonomics, lower ammo supply, shorter effective distance, heavier weight & less accuracy EVERYTIME.

  • @oeyesea someone has apparently been living under a rock since the 74 came out... it uses a 5.45 bullet, lighter (obviously) then the 5.56, with the same range, slightly less velocity, and a tiny TINY bit less precise then the 5.56

  • @crazygeek777 The AK 74 round does use a 60 grain bullet so it is not lighter than the 223 or which ever you wish to call it 5.6x45 in military use.

The AK will always be a pray and spray bullets gun !

  • @Hincesti07 Standard 5.56 round is 62 grain, and 77 grain bullets such as the mk262 mod 0 & 1 are common and are used on special purpose rifles.

AK74 uses 49 - 56.8 grain bullets as the most common rounds.

  • @oeyesea Of course we were told that M16 is flawless, and anything wrong with it was user error LMAO!!!

  • I wonder how this test would affect the older M16 models such as the A1 and A2 models.

  • People look at the M4's reliability like people look at the ak's accuracy. But the M4 is reliable but not as reliable as the AK. This vid was very impressive though. I would choose the M4 over AK any day

  • I also like the G36, which by the way uses an AR-18 style bolt and piston system, because the charging handle was part of the bolt.

Whatever obstructed the bolt could be cleared by a hard push or a gentle application of boot force as we called it. The AR-15 style bolt assembly "pulls" the bolt, and you will find it harder to find a hard object and slam your charging handle against it to force it to work.

Sure, recoil is higher, but we don´t run through ammo as much as the US troops do.

  • So, what if a soldier drops his gun in the sand, accidentally burries it and a humvee drives over, and THEN he has to engage in a firefight?

Of course, I am kidding, but a shitton of people I know who have experience with the M16 family, both civilian and military models, claim that even the newer ones aren´t as great as some people say. Of course, the older M16s are uncomparable, their legendary failure was partly sabotage.

Sure, it might be easy and quick to fix, but why fix at all?

  • M4's do jam faster than M16-A2. I bought a FailZero bolt and carrier and the thing can shoot for days without jamming.

  • What does it mean, it gets sluggish?

  • @Tuxedo413 You click and there's a tiny milsec of pause before the rifle fires because of gunk mixing with the lubricant.

  • @Tuxedo413 As a gun, especially a DI AR gets more dirty its action(cycling of the bolt, extracting of a case and going back into battery) gets more sluggish.

  • constantly blowing in the wind gets into everything. Piston guns may be able to run a little longer without proper maintenance, but if I'm in an environment like that, you best believe I'm going to be cleaning my gun. DI guns are plenty reliable enough to work between semi-regular maintenance sessions, even if all you do is wipe down the BCG with a rag and lube it up. I like piston guns fine, but I also don't feel the need to run out and replace all my DI guns either. Thanks for the test/video.

  • non-professional shooters. Most people aren't capable of consistently and effectively using Kentucky windage in combat. Having a gun that works reliably is slightly more important to me than hair splitting accuracy, but both reliability and accuracy are paramount for a fighting weapon. Any gun that is kept fairly clean/lubed, and used in conjunction with decent ammo and quality magazines should run for you. The Middle East is a challenging environment for all firearms--the tiny particles of sand

  • All gun "issues" are generally over exaggerated. The AR-15 is more reliable than people give it credit for (particularly the current ones--the gun has been improved immensely), and AKs are a lot more accurate than people give them credit for (especially the 5.45 variants, plenty accurate to hit a man sized target out to 300 yards, which is getting to the beginning of the end for the effective range of the cartridge, and the point at which magnified optics, etc. are necessary for most

  • if u pay close attention they dont really run it over and kind of avoid dumping small granules directly into the port, they are by far my fav. weapon though, but seems kinda fake just saying

  • Arent like, 80 percent of all feed problems the result of a dirty/ bad magazine?

  • One test doesn't make a crappy rifle OK. The AR-15 and its spawn have horrible design flaws- the bizarre 7 lug bolt, the puny ejector and the pooping on the dinner plate gas system. I had 'em for 7 years and was constantly tinkering, cleaning, changing ammo, putting in various kits and buffers, etc. etc. it's a cute little rifle for plinking but even that gets frustrating. Wishful thinking won't cure its flaws.

  • what many people dont know is that aks are less reliable in sand. they can chew mud and dirt and much more but they have always sufered in sand. that is how the isreali galil was brought about. ak was made for europe thearter. harse winters and mud not desert.

  • why the colt M16 fail easy, but the HK AR416 is complete funcional ?

  • tipe this on you tube and try this with AR lol. "AK-74 Reliablity Test at Blackwater"

  • Interesting. I found an article that the M4 came in last place in the dust test due to jams, but the military said they were going to buy it anyway.

My M16 did jam on me several times in the Desert as a solder. What make rifle are you using? Is it Colt or HK ?

  • @frankgon4 It is a CAV-15 lower with CMMG upper. Basically, the cheapest AR15 you can build commercially.

  • @frankgon4 if you pick up the newest issue of combat tactics they talk about the test. The M4 had fewer malfunctions.

  • @flight2k5 Now that sounds interesting. Source?

  • @frankgon4 I had the same problems man, when i got back i almost swore em off. i picked up as stag arms with a short stoke piston and never looked back

  • @frankgon4 I heard during the tests when more lube was added the M4 had 300 stoppages in 60,000 rounds which was much better and close to the other rifles, many of the other so called new improved rifles were getting 300-400 jams so it wasn't such a big improvement.

  • @semiautoriflelover You all don´t like to hear that more lube COSTS MORE MONEY?

Yeah, the M16 is fine, just dunk it´s action in oil every couple hundred shots, it´ll run fine.

Maybe that is why the US invades Oil-rich nations, so that there is more oil at hand to lube their guns with so they keep working.

I dunno, the M16 seems fine enough, but when EVERYONE agrees that "Use more lube" is the answer then something HAS gone wrong in the design phase...

A dry G36 will run longer then any dry M16.

  • @frankgon4 I've read that it was due to using old magazines during the testing, while those tested against the M4 were using new.

  • @frankgon4 Depends the sand in iraq and afganistan isent it a very fine grain sand almost like baby powder while the sand used in most tests is beach sand or just dirt? also it's still a machine im sure it will jam up sometimes when in that envionment only reason the ak doesent is cuz it was designed with very loose tolerences idk both are great wepons you me.

  • I would like to see this replicated with different ARs and different dirt types and weights before I am convinced of reliability.

  • @kustom56merc so go run some tests then.

  • @SinistralRifleman your telling me when you are the one who wants to prove people about the reliability of an AR? Here is a test idea, shove it up your ass and see if it shots afterward.

  • @kustom56merc Its not my job to cater to every whiner on youtube. You are free to abuse your own guns and post the results.

I suggest you start with your anus insertion test.

  • @SinistralRifleman I doubt that that an AR barrel would fit in my anus. But you on the other hand my friend already have a stick up your anus. If you do commit to this type of testing you will show that an AR is just as reliable as an AK. Just trying to be helpful.

  • @kustom56merc the AKs we tests failed horribly in the same test. See the videos on scottsdalerick's channell

  • This is a great video and I bet the AK airsoft video playing punks who see this are screaming foul play !

Keep up with these great video's about the AR !

I am a American living in Eastern Europe who has seen the AK Bow up, Jam when needed the most , and you can't hit anything with an AK even at 50 feet unless its on Full auto and you spray the area with Bullets !

AK's are your basic left over Soviet junk !

  • stupid kids think an AR will jam after every shot

  • This was pretty impressive. I have never thought an AR can handle so much abuse. Thx for the video

  • The AK would have handled that with the bolt held open and sand thrown in and would not have malfunctioned after being buried and ran over. Jet

  • @jetfuel545 nope. See the AK test videos on scottsdalerick's channel

  • YEAH, but the AK is still better if you like to store your guns at the bottom of a POND!!! (ponds make great gun safes)

  • Why the hell do people ask you to leave the bolt open and then throw dirt on it?? Its obviously gonna jam that COMMON SENSE lol. But thanks for posting this, because Im about to buy my first rifle and I cant decide between M&P-15 or the PTR 91 (main purpose is if the SHTF) and this does change my views on the AR platform.

  • I want to see it buried with the bolt open - If it still fired like this after that then I would be impressed you could do this to nearly any assault weapon and it would function, hell I know a Vietnam Vet who brought a AK home from the war and threw it out into a small pond behind his house one night when he was drunk or somethin - two years at the bottom of that pond he found it when the pond dried up a bunch - kicked the bolt open and fired off the entire magazine like nothing had happened

  • @WakelandCrew with the bolt open it would fail, and potentially be unsafe. If debris gets in the chamber of any rifle is can cause head space issues and an out of battery detonation.

I don't care what other guns can do. The AR15 can take more dirt and abuse than people give it credit for, and that is ALL that this video is about

  • @SinistralRifleman of course it can, its light years better than when they first came out in the 60's. However i want to see this test run with bullpups.

  • @WakelandCrew You're full of shit and a dumbass.

  • @WakelandCrew And i bet you made that story up as you sat at your computer.

  • @WakelandCrew : You are a total dumb ass to make up a story that some Vietnam Vet took an AK out of a pound after two years and the gun fired !

What do you all think we all are 16 year old video game playing punk kids that play with airsoft guns and paint ball gun !

Look any gun at the bottom of a pond for two years would be so rusted and fouled with muck it would never fire or even open the bolt !

Face the facts the AR 15 or M-16 is superior to any and all AK's and clones !

  • Well this video proved me wrong. I thought the ar-15 could not handle conditions like this and that it was too fragile.

  • Thanks for the vid i sure as hell wouldn't do that to my weapons

  • what kind of Ar is this and how much was it

  • I would like to see the bolt open during this test, or at least some dirt actually get in the reciever..

  • @stadon88 the inside of the gun was filthy when we were done. Where do you want me to e-mail the pics?

  • @stadon88 Ditto!!!

  • @stadon88

thing is. in combat conditions. the bolt is rarely if ever open.

only a retard would run around in the desert in combat conditions with the bolt open, no round chambered, and no magazine in the weapon.

  • @stadon88 At 2:14 the bolt is open.

  • @routan1 sounded to me like i heard the bolt snap closed right before he buried it....

  • @pugs2300 Bolt is close during the test and was never advertised as being open. At any rate, if enough debris get's into the operating system of any weapon, even the AK's, as debris don't magically teleport to a different dimension inside an AK's action, malfunctions will occur.

They did a similar test with an AK, of which the AK failed to keep debris off it's action, which ultimately lead to some of debris migrating into the magazine and causing further issues.

  • @stadon88 the buried the damn thing bolt open and ran over it

  • @stadon88 It is open. It is given the same treatment as the AK, and it functions fine. Don't get sucked into the old Vietnam-era view of the M-16 failing consistently. It was due to having no cleaning kits. Once the G.I.s were given cleaning kits, the problem went away. Besides, that was decades ago and the platform has made numerous improvements. Buy both and enjoy both.

  • @stadon88 thats the thing with AR's, there built so well they don't get that much dirt inside when the bolt is closed while buried in the ground, making it that much better lol :)

  • AR strong!

  • My Father, Uncle and father in Law carried Colt AR15s during the Vietnam war and fired 1000s of rounds and they said they had zero weapon jams or stoppages. My Best friend was a drill instructor for the Marines for 18 years and he likes the Colt AR15 and said it was a reliable weapon if lubed properly, I've owned 12 Colt AR15s and 2 other brands and have had 2 stoppages ever(bad ammo). If the rifle was jamming ever other round like people say would we all love it so much?

  • What AR is that, who makes lower and upper, any upgrades? I'll do the same setup haha

  • cav arms polymer lower + bcm lightweight middy = 'epic win'

  • Dam you got some balls I need you to come over and test my new build.

  • Good to see someone making a video like this !

These air soft video game playing punks like Nutnfancy who post their own garbage video's on you tube bashing the AR 15 and bragging how the AK 47 is better than the AR should see this video !

Thanks from an AR 15 builder for the great video !

  • Combatants AR vs Combatants AK are in urban CQB both sides shield themselves with effective cover only the heads are exposed temporarily and the AR users have k-pots on. ARs have less than 10% of a mansized target exposed (k-pots) AKs have @ 10% man sized target. Now do you want precise fire that can hit a lightbulb in 2 shots at 200 meters or powerful super reliable fire that misses a mansized target consistently at the same distance? Also each AR guy has 1,500 rounds on him, AK has way less.

  • @oeyesea, An AK will consistently hit a man sized target at 200 yards.

  • @esh325

Hell No! The effective range is about 100-150 yard. Don't post bullshit if you've never shot one.

  • @SLEAZY808 Actually your wrong. Almost any AK will hit man size (what 12-16 MOA) at 200 yards, even the shit ones CA are selling now. A nice Chinese or other quality AK will do just fine.

  • Nice to see a unbiased reliability test for once.

  • I agree man, Mud and dirt on the outside of the gun doesn't show anything as far as reliability.

  • hey man bend at the knees you'll hurt yourself

  • I can definitely vouch for this. Most of the problems encountered with the weapon in the military are from bad/warped magazines and using too much lubricant for the environment. I didn't use more than 2 drops of CLP at any time in Iraq and never had a misfire putting over 300 rds through it (range qual).

  • Goes to show that an M4/AR-15 is perfectly reliable for any condition with more accuracy than the AK-47

  • why didn't you use the forward assist when the gun failed to go into battery?

  • because beating debris into the chamber more doesn't help anything.

  • @SinistralRifleman i love my AR too much to abuse it in this manner.

    But THANK YOU!

videos like this shut up the AK boys.

    great video

  • wish my ARs worked that good. i get jams if i shoot shit ammo or cheap mags. in my dpms and bushy. colts work a little more smoothly.

  • Sweet vid!

  • Good video dude. nice to see some1 who actually understands that Ars work allot better than most of these video gamers would have us believe.

  • The myths that perpetuate out of war/weapons astound me. Such as the "ping" from Garands leading to a charge... LOL, good luck hearing that ping in a firefight, and then being all alone with no fireteam. Likewise, the AR rifles are damned good and as reliable as their caretaker. nice to see a pro AR video for a change instead of all the AK crap. I own both rifles and each have their purpose, but the AR gets a bad rap for nothing.

  • Is that the second time that rifle has been run over?

  • no, the other one that wasn't buried did not fare so well; the upper receiver cracked at the barrel indexing pin. The gun did continue to function, but accuracy was screwed.

  • Also that one was run over by a much larger truck.

  • People on here need to stop relying on video games and airsoft commandos for knowledge. All weapons fail, especially when you maintain them properly. A quality made and well lubed AR-15/M16 is going to work great. The lower in that test is also a Cavalry Arms lower, which is one of the most underrated products on the market.

  • So I am supposed to believe that this ONE video, whereas many who are overseas and FIGHTING with this weapon see it shit all over, to believe your INTERNET commando test proves its durability? LOL

  • Where did I say it is impossible for the AR15/M16 to fail in combat?

The only thing I am showing is that it is not as unreliable as people believe it to be, and it can take some abuse.

  • Okay you sir are a moron, if you think that an AR can take ABUSE because you POURED dirt over on one side and it worked...

  • Dirt got into the action and it kept running...many people say it can't withstand that.

You must have also missed the part where we ran it over with the jeep and it kept (mostly) working).

Why the hate? Why are people so emotionally attached to Mechanical devices?

  • A 20 year old rifle full of cannibalized, worn out parts being maintained by a 19 year old is justification for saying the design is unreliable?

AKs are all over the middle east... When one breaks, they crack a new one out of the grease. They're disposable rifles.

This is just another 12 year old that believes the bull shit.

  • I'm one of those who used the weapon overseas, in the ME. Well maintained, as all weaons should be, it'll run with no problems. I had a single malfunction in mine during twelve months, and that was due to a worn out magazine.

  • how about putting fine sand INTO the weapon and firing it...

  • Why do the AK guys cry like little babies? They had the dust cover open on the AR15 in this video. Why would you have it closed on an AK? They are supposed to fire with mud and sand inside the chamber area.

  • PMAGs solved alot of the problems of jamming. No more feed lip issues like the old USGI aluminum ones. They're the only mags that you can really run through a SAW apparently without jamming.

  • Well ok then. Now I know that I can get rid of the gun safe and just bury my rifle in the yard instead. Thanks guys.

  • The AR-15, M-16 family of rifles have improved dramatically since there introduction, My biggest peave is the weapon still SH*^s where it eats. Never tried them myself but I heat great things of the piston conversion, that said Ill still have my AK in the event of the Zombie Apocalypse

  • I've fired up to 3,000 rounds between cleanings with my direct impingement guns. How much more do you want?

  • direct impingement gets a bad rap, but its really not any worse than other gas systems.

  • @jalapenotech Your having hot dirty gas blowing into the receiver that must be well oiled to operate and you think this is good to go no worse than any other gas system. Lets think about this for a min, have to call you out on that ridiculousness

  • Have the bolt held back.... cover it in sand/dirt... and shoot just 30 rounds.

That would test what would happen if say you emptied a clip, were doing a reload and some sand/dirt got in while the weapon is most vulnerable.

  • Aaaah, rather than shoveling dirt on just ONE side, why not lay the gun on the ground, rub it around a little, then turn it over and rub it into the ground on the other side. ? That would simulate real world conditions better than your one-sided approach...LOL.

  • we did that in the other video. This was a response to the fact that we did the first one with the dust cover closed. The AR15 doesn't have any holes for dirt to enter through on the left hand side anyway.

  • And in the first video we did do it to both sides.

  • wow it did much better than the ak...hmmm i wonder

  • A+ Tests...Thanks for abusing YOUR guns! Glad to see the U.S work horse do so well!

  • AR's will run 10,000 plus rounds without cleaning wet, (OIL) but they don't do well dry in the same conditions.

  • Impressive.

  • wow i have watched both the ak and ar tests you guys did and everyone on both sides says there gun is better but i have never seen anyone do a real test like this maybe an ar should be my next rifle.

  • when you tested the ak was it milled or a stamped version and I am buying one or the other but now swaying toward the AR after watching this...what model do you suggest..plan on using against any ememy invasions like the nwo...

  • lonnied - buy a Colt.

  • Yeah sure, throw away a thousand bucks on a Colt. If you want a rifle with a My Little Pony on the side, I'm sure the dudes at Cav can etch one into the side for you for a shitton less than a K-note.

  • The problems experianced overseas are not from droping your rifle in the sand but weeks of hot sandy desert climate, it mixes with gun lube and creates mud. nothing it really safe, if you pay attention to detail when cleaning your rifle nothing bad will happen when u need it most

  • Still, this video shows that AR 15s don't jam like they used to, and are very reliable rifles

  • Hard to keep a pro-AK stance with videos like this one..

Good job on the duel videos

  • Now that's what I'm talking about! Nice!

  • The problem with this test is that the sand, dirt, and dust used was from a domestic source. It is well known that only dirt from other countries will cause an AR to choke. As for parking on your gun, that seems a bit excessive to me, but heck you are a "Trooper" for giving it a try. I would like to see some head to head mud wrestling matches between the AR and the AK.

  • Most people don't plan on using their rifle overseas. There are now more AR-15s in civilian use than military. It's an American classic and is here to stay.

I think the piston conversions are a fad.

  • "I think the piston conversions are a fad"

I second that. It's a solution looking for a problem.

  • @Agent4Bauer

    How so?
