You are not paying attention to the second part of my statement. When some people lack basics, the extravagance of others is indeed injustice.
You will never have millions of über-rich, millions of mansions, etc. There are not enough resources in the world for that. Having everyone live comfortably, while those who work harder and are smarter have a few more privileges is fine. Having some people living without their basic needs met while others enjoy opulence is not acceptable.
You are treating economics lie it's a zero-sum game, where the success of some requires the loss of others. This is simply not so. If all of those rich people had never existed, there would not be more wealth to go around, most of the world's wealth would never have existed in the first place.
Economics is of course not zero-sum, but it is also not entirely creative. There is a tension between them - it is not accurately described by either.
When it comes to basic material needs and services (health care, transportation, education), it is less creative and closer to zero-sum than it is for cultural products.
That said, capitalism has done a good job at improving efficiency of even these sectors, when it has been guided by laws and traditions to limit selfishness and greed.

Your notion of individual rights is an idea that makes civil society impossible. No society in history ever had these ideas, because adopting them amounts to a suicide pact. Being principled is good (the world has many unprincipled and many principled people), but we also should look at what principles people have when they are principled.
I don't mean to be inflammatory. If I see something I deem evil, I simply identify it as such. However, I will refrain from such language for the time being. I wonder how individual rights can make civil society impossible. My definition of a civil society is one where initiating the use of physical force is banned from human relationships. I don't have a problem helping the poor, but I think it should be done voluntarily, and not by force.

Under a purely capitalist economy, the rich would be just as subject to rights as anyone else. They couldn't force people into labor for them, it would have to be a voluntary agreement between them.
As for the taxes thing, there are some things I don't mind paying taxes for. Law enforcement, military, fire dept. etc. are the proper function of government. Healthcare and education are not.
We disagree on the function of government then - I have a broad notion of the public good that I thnk government should serve, yours is a bit more narrow. We probably have another interesting disagreement - I don't believe in free contracts (and neither does our legal system). Situations can easily conspire to eliminate real choice, and the most abusive of those are specially regulated. The Landlord-renter relationship in particular has a lot of limits on free contract. I claim this is good.
The function of our government is easy enough to find- just read the Declaration of Independence. It says that humans are endowed with certain rights, and that the only function of government is to protect them, and that a government that infringes upon individual rights is not proper.
I've actually not heard the term "Free contracts" before. You'll need to explain that one to me before I can agree or disagree with it. It's possible I've heard of it under a different name, though.

You are not paying attention to the second part of my statement. When some people lack basics, the extravagance of others is indeed injustice.
You will never have millions of über-rich, millions of mansions, etc. There are not enough resources in the world for that. Having everyone live comfortably, while those who work harder and are smarter have a few more privileges is fine. Having some people living without their basic needs met while others enjoy opulence is not acceptable.

Economics is of course not zero-sum, but it is also not entirely creative. There is a tension between them - it is not accurately described by either.
When it comes to basic material needs and services (health care, transportation, education), it is less creative and closer to zero-sum than it is for cultural products.
That said, capitalism has done a good job at improving efficiency of even these sectors, when it has been guided by laws and traditions to limit selfishness and greed.

And healthcare isn't closer to zero-sum. If there's not enough, the free market will produce more doctors, and those greedy capitalists will look for ways to make money by improving the industry.

I don't mean to be inflammatory. If I see something I deem evil, I simply identify it as such. However, I will refrain from such language for the time being. I wonder how individual rights can make civil society impossible. My definition of a civil society is one where initiating the use of physical force is banned from human relationships. I don't have a problem helping the poor, but I think it should be done voluntarily, and not by force.

I am not saying individual rights in the general sense do, just your particular formulation of them. The notion that taxes are theft (rather than duty) is not one on which society can function - unless you imagine a society where the rich are more virtuous than they ever have been in history, and they don't play favourites, at the very least a society in alignment with the libertarian notions of virtue would more resemble a feudal aristocracy than a modern one. There are other possible notions.

Under a purely capitalist economy, the rich would be just as subject to rights as anyone else. They couldn't force people into labor for them, it would have to be a voluntary agreement between them.
As for the taxes thing, there are some things I don't mind paying taxes for. Law enforcement, military, fire dept. etc. are the proper function of government. Healthcare and education are not.

We disagree on the function of government then - I have a broad notion of the public good that I thnk government should serve, yours is a bit more narrow. We probably have another interesting disagreement - I don't believe in free contracts (and neither does our legal system). Situations can easily conspire to eliminate real choice, and the most abusive of those are specially regulated. The Landlord-renter relationship in particular has a lot of limits on free contract. I claim this is good.

The function of our government is easy enough to find- just read the Declaration of Independence. It says that humans are endowed with certain rights, and that the only function of government is to protect them, and that a government that infringes upon individual rights is not proper.
I've actually not heard the term "Free contracts" before. You'll need to explain that one to me before I can agree or disagree with it. It's possible I've heard of it under a different name, though.

I think you'd have a tough case to make that the declaration supports lassiez-faire capitalism - it speaks very little of economics, and does not say anything like "the only function of government". The founding fathers were a very diverse bunch, not really classifiable in today's political terms.
Libertarians often argue about the right to free contract - that contracts are solely between two people and society should not intervene.

First, the Declaration of Independence established a form of government since abolished (the Constitution formed our current government, and corrected the failure of our first government), and secondly, I don't think it specifies lassiez-faire and it certainly does not say it can never leave it. The early founders were enthusiastic about appropriate government that was in fact at ends with lassiezfaire.
2nd point: Contracts in unfair starting conditions that give one undue power on the other.

I agree. Not to mention it is nearly impossible to tax the rich without also taxing the poor. If you tax a small business owner, the owner can respond by increasing the price of goods. If you tax a landlord, the landlord can respond by increasing the cost of rent.
The economy is linked, like the human body. In taxing the rich you tax the poor too. The ending effect is simply less money in the entire private sector and more money in the public sector.

He's not "dismantling the profit making business" because they companies are no longer making profit, they're stealing, hands down, banks aren't supposed to charge $2.50 for every ATM use, and insurance companies have no place in refusing charges to legitimately paying customers for certain "pre-existing conditions", they should be taken care of like their insurance is supposed to do for them, but you don't care about that because it's never happened to you.
