Sloppy orchestra playing, but that's really the conductor's fault. And don't go all feminist on me, because she's a woman. She's just not a very good conductor, that's all....
Her playing is incredible and her tone amazing. I love the rich, dark sound she produces on that violin. Great performance.
But there's still difference between her and Perlman and Heifetz in a few spots in the piece, if you want to be very nitpicky.
That said, none of us should be criticizing her, because it's a near perfect performance. And being second only to two of the greatest violinists ever is nothing to scoff at.

yes, when i played in a youth orchestra back when we performed in churches, the director would turn around and all the parents would clap for their darlings.

audiences will break out into applause after a great performance. when the whole orchestra creates a significant pause, like the one that happens here, it is reasonable for someone to assume it's over. of course, it's a chain reaction.

@joia111094 I would actually listen to it, if I came across is, provided it was absolutely awful. If you use Heifetz, Perlman, Milstein, Oistrakh, etc, as the standard for what "people should pay for", then you're just setting an extremely high standard.
That being said; she has managed to have several CDs produced.... so, apparently she's is good enough to be "professional".
It's fine if you think it's inadequate; but that doesn't negate the validity of her performance.
@TheJmills39 If you wanna see me play, type in Arioso by Bach (Joia). I play cello and violin and you can comment on the video and give me helpful tips since u seem like you're a musician(not sure though). Thanks:)

Actually I have finished it as a part of the test to go into the junior high school of Shanghai conservatory of music. What I meant was not that everyone has to do perfectly in a performance, after all ther was only one Heifetz. However there's no doubt that it's pityful to see a musician makes many mistakes in a performance.
I think that she did very well on the fast pace, not stubling down the notes, and her runs and left hand pizz were so clear, very nice on the left hand pizz especially!
Hi. I have many versions and I can hear that missing notes, specially in the "pizzicato". The best (my opinion) is Josef Sakonov's version from early seventies.
Genius that she can actually play this piece like so, I'll give her that, but if she wouldve added more silence and rests after the fermadas and such, she wouldve made it wound more intense..
Otherwise she makes it sound more rushed, if you will, more like she just wants to get it over with.
Easy to criticize what you don't understand. If she plays certain passages too fast for your liking, that's one thing. You are entitled to your opinion; but to criticize her for her "interpretation" of this moving piece is another thing altogether. Just be glad there are musicians of her caliber in the world.
I'm not criticizing her interpretation on the piece, I am simply saying that if she slowed down and relaxed it a little more, she'd get that extra 'gypsy' touch that sarasate intended for it. The tempo is lento.
Sarasate didn't drag out any of the notes like modern players do. There is a recording of him playing it from around 1900, you can't even here the high notes.
From personal experience I would say highly possible - not that I have actually broke my fingers playing it, but I have been left my unable to use my left hand for a good few days after bending it the wrong way! Absolutely fantastic rendition, really captures the emotion of the piece, quite faultless.
Parabens direto do Brasil. Obrigado !

@joia111094 This is Roma music; technical "perfection" is slave to musicality here.
Anyway (and more importantly), it's art. If you are judging it by the technicality then you're missing the point.
Obsession over dogmatic technicality vastly flew the coop in the 20'th century. That's a whole 'nother issue though.

So where do you think are those wonderful musicians coming out of? Are they just appearing out of thin air???
Maybe you should change your mind on the important role of teachers.
And by the way: Mrs. Kouzmanova is a teacher herself
Yours sincerely, Adrienne

@Adrienne6418 I am a teacher myself, and a performer. I was just being animated to show a point. Relax.

@Muso8787 Great remark, except the fact that some players CAN teach and some teachers CAN play ;-)

I think that she did very well on the fast pace, not stubling down the notes, and her runs and left hand pizz were so clear, very nice on the left hand pizz especially!
Dansback21 2 years ago
the second part was way to fast, she missed a lot of notes
bramVE239 2 years ago
Hi. I have many versions and I can hear that missing notes, specially in the "pizzicato". The best (my opinion) is Josef Sakonov's version from early seventies.
Anyway, Ms. Kouzmanova plays very well.

Je suis agrable.Anyone who doesn't respond to this has no soul; I don't care what your favorite music is.
minor7b5b9 2 years ago
it kinda seemed like she rushed it a lot, she should've spaced out the notes a little more;
furubaqueen101 2 years ago
You don't know what you're talking about.
minor7b5b9 2 years ago
I think I do I've hear this piece 1000 times and she was definetly rushing it.
furubaqueen101 2 years ago
Her interpretation of this wonderful piece is nothing short of genius.
minor7b5b9 2 years ago
Genius that she can actually play this piece like so, I'll give her that, but if she wouldve added more silence and rests after the fermadas and such, she wouldve made it wound more intense..
Otherwise she makes it sound more rushed, if you will, more like she just wants to get it over with.
furubaqueen101 2 years ago
Easy to criticize what you don't understand. If she plays certain passages too fast for your liking, that's one thing. You are entitled to your opinion; but to criticize her for her "interpretation" of this moving piece is another thing altogether. Just be glad there are musicians of her caliber in the world.
minor7b5b9 2 years ago 11
I'm not criticizing her interpretation on the piece, I am simply saying that if she slowed down and relaxed it a little more, she'd get that extra 'gypsy' touch that sarasate intended for it. The tempo is lento.
furubaqueen101 2 years ago
Sarasate didn't drag out any of the notes like modern players do. There is a recording of him playing it from around 1900, you can't even here the high notes.
Dansback21 2 years ago
Agreed, this piece is dfficult and each has their own interpretation, I have my own I play of this

To reply to cwldoc, most orchestras are still, i believe, made up of caucasian men, and have been so for many years

let me re-word that. do you think someone's fingers could break while playing song? that sounded slightly better.
inodoro7 2 years ago 2
From personal experience I would say highly possible - not that I have actually broke my fingers playing it, but I have been left my unable to use my left hand for a good few days after bending it the wrong way! Absolutely fantastic rendition, really captures the emotion of the piece, quite faultless.

do you think its possible for one to break his/her fingers while playing this song?

Imagine the reaction if there was a Vienna Philharmonic Men´s Orchestra or a Vienna Philharmonic Caucasion Orchestra, etc.
