I had the chance to see Gary on stage during the "keep the faith" tour in Paris in 1996.A few minutes after the end of the show, the man was in the middle of the room chatting with his friends ! I went to him & he was more than friendly.A real class guy with charisma.
By the way, anyone could write the lyrics of "hard left" ?
Oh yeah. It's Gary Clail's T-T-T-Tackhead T-T-T-TapeTIme. I wa livin in Boston in 88-92 sampling the local debauchery / club life. When first came on the club scene, industrial techno was just hitting it's peak, Gary Clail was one of the first live industrial shows I saw at Club Spit, with his Tackhead Tape Machine. boring show but great album. awesome club.
absolute industrial funk. some of the most talented musicians with non-watered down ideas. Leblancs drumming/programming still inspires. hes the fuckin man.
saw them in Houston--the most painful show ever. I had to crawl under the stage and it still hurt--started crying--wanted to puke--- was getting penned in--so found out the best place was to have head between speakers as a sound barrier-- they hit some freaky "note" and my cheek bones vibrated... what a show!!
They played the I-Beam twice; first w/ Clail, Mark Stewart; Then maybe two years later w/ Bernard Fowler singing. That show was good, but that first one SLAYED!!
Fuck me - if Clail and the boys tried that now they'd probably be arrested and kept in prison with no trial! Awesome shit - way ahead of it's time and massively better than most of te crap that appears today. On U Sound at the control tower!
My sister used to know Adrian Sherwood and as I result of that, I had the privilage of hearing Sherwood mixes of tracks like Hard Left that never saw the light of day, because the record co thought they were too wild, but I tell you they were absolutely awesome and Tackhead were one band that really should have been allowed to just go bezerk in the studio. Wish I had those tapes now!
Given how this video compares with ones knocked out by YouTubers in their bedrooms I thought I'd mention that it was the official video, obtained in the 1980's from Southern Studios in London.

Time to create the HLM (Hard Left Movement) in France... and the acronym could have an interesting resonance in French !
