  • So much ignorant criticisms here - makes me sick.

  • Dead tail

  • @AQHAwonder The tail is not dead. It is being held out of the way so if the train backs up it won't step on its tail and rip it out. You don't want a dead tail in Paso Finos because in a competition if two horses are perfectly matched in every way shape and form, and one holds its tail prettier than the other, the one with the pretty tail will win because it gives a better picture.

  • @AQHAwonder Plus if you want to talk about dead tails there are a lot of people who deaden the tails of Quarter Horses so that they won't move them in competition.

  • His hands look light and supple, they only tension on the head, is on the jaquima not the bit. Some people put a butt strap on their Pasos to help them with their rear collection- either this horse has worn one, or the trainer prefers to ONLY tie the tail. tying the tail is a similar idea of training as the butt strap, it's not abusive at all, just used as a reminder or a "line" so to speak for the horse. Animals learn by doing, ya know. Just like most people and we all need a "line" to cross

  • Well, I don´t think, he really activates the hindquarters. He uses the bit his hands and very short reins to straighten up the neck. That´s wrong, the neck should straighten up as a result of stronger bending in the back.(Hips, Knees, hocks). Correct collection would make look the hind end lower than the withers.

no suppleness (step 2 in scale of training, 1 = rythm) so the horse can´t obey. To demand step 6 (collection) before step 2 (supplement) by using strong bits & ties is abuse (IMO)

  • Doing something traditional does not mean doing it right. And it doesn´t mean, that there are no better/stressless/less painful ways.

Why reason for using "tail-bondage"? Why expresses it bustle and stressed tension? Why are the strides short, hectic and are losing the tact/pulse?

And no, I definitely don´t want to see a "traditional paso fino show", ´cause if you can call the training in this video "good" I would thr.... up seeing worse examples. (And yes I know there ARE worse!)

  • Besides the tail being tied to the side (which is NOT a "normal" part of training a Paso Fino), what is wrong with this video?

This trainer is asking the horse to collect up and engage its hindquarters, thus making the horse's strides shorter. How is this abuse? Certainly then asking a horse to jump over an obstacle in show jumping or asking a horse to do spins in reining is also abuse by your standards!

Btw - have you even watched ANY other videos of Paso Finos gaiting besides this one?

  • @Nordkuhmaedchen it is not "tail bondage". Why do draft horses that pull have docked tails? Because they get in the way, to make pulling safer for the animal, correct? the tail on the Paso, is tied to keep it out of the way. It is sometimes used as a training method, but it depends upon the horse. I don't usu tie my Pasos tails. Yes, this horse DOES need some more rear drive and a little more hock action; but considering it's obvious that the horse is still green, he/she looks great. Way to go!

  • Disgusting! tail is tied, head is tied and pulled down by bit, expresses pain and stress. Natural gait perverted in every way

  • Head is NOT tied. Maybe try learning about the way the Paso Fino breed is traditionally ridden (AND THEIR TACK) before making accusations. Natural gait is perverted? Well, I invite you go visit any Paso Fino show and you'd eat your words. Beautiful, healthy, and HAPPY horses all around.

  • you've done nice work on her.

try to keep your hands soft and to pull on the reins to much. im also now training with a paso fino filly and its hard keeping the those hands steady. but great job:)

and people who dont like paso finos, dont watch this video then. Pasos have been bred more than any other horse. from the Andselusian, the Barb and the now extinct, Spanish Jennet. all 3 great horses mixed into one.

    <3

  • Please people, don't be ignorant. These horses have been bread for years with some manipulation of natural selection(just like any other breed) and the result is this natural gait which is the most comfortable you wil ever ride. Please get it right, the gait is natural!

"It is a capital mistake to theorize without having all the facts, it biases the judgement"- Sir Conan Doyle-1898!

  • I like arabians best! but paso finos are nice enough and very gorgeous

  • She has a great gait.

I have my own paso fino, have had him for 4months now, and i will never regret buying him. Paso's are great movers, and worth there weight in gold. x

  • I just bought my first Paso Fino 1 week ago and absolutely love this horse! She is an awesome mover with the sweetest personality. I've been a big fan of these horses for years and have finally become an owner.

  • I personally love the gait. i love all horse gaits and colors and breeds... i love every thing about horses so sum1 insulting a horse like that agrevates me.

  • This gait is not natural anymore...I'm sorry for this horse, it looks stressed all the time!=( I think this is a show horse, right? Poor thing!

  • the horse doesnt really have to be stressed, its still in training i believe. i mean it looks like it. the rider has to put its part in it too. to not move his hands so much and that. the horse doesnt really have to be stressed.

  • how could people like that gate

  • i can understand u. i used to have a paso fino and when u find out the history of the paso fino no one would like that gait.

  • I love the Paso Finos. The gait is natural. Obviously the gait of that filly has been practiced, but the Pleasure horses I ride are all natural, and there show horses. The smoothest ride in the world. And Ive never seen a horse with a personality of the Paso Finos

  • My mare is 1/2 Quarter horse, half Paso Fino, she is an awesome mover. is there a reason why you tie her tail down? is it to train her to keep it down while she is in that gait?? thanks, beautiful filly!

  • judges count off for a horse swishing their tails. i guess you could call it bad behavior. anyways. most people tie their tails to teach the not to do it. it doesnt hurt them. then others use it as something to collect their rear ends.

  • lol listen to that horse. you can tell he is having a blast. lol

  • lol... I have to go in the Equine Affair breed demo and spotlight with my paso Stryker La Armonia... she is amazing yet only a performance mare...

I love paso finos they are amazing

  • Are you serious? She is a beautiful mover!

  • i agree.

  • why is underground?

  • its not. the fencing is high.

  • it just looks like the feet are in the ground.

  • I have a 7 yr old gelding who is 1/2 peruvian 1/4 paso fino and 1/4 saddlebred. He is beautifully gaited, but stands 17HH, def. saddlebred gene, lol.

  • All you guys who think paso's cant canter they can!

MY paso does barrel racing with 20 sec.

  • That's a beautiful Paso gait right there.

  • Gaited horses get their gaits naturally. They just need a little training, such as the Rack, or Pace.

  • thats how i walk on hot sand at the beach

  • wow, what a good girl! She looks like you can show her fino fino! :) To all of you curious, paso finos are small horses that came from the spanish jennet, which is a burro. As we all know, burros are tiny but easily carry half their own weight. These horses are little powerhouses! BTW, yes, they canter.

  • Actually, Michelle, burros and horses are different species with different # of chromosomes. Paso Finos did not "come from" burros. Although paso finos were (and are) occasionally used to breed mules (a hybrid cross between a jack (male donkey or burro) and a mare (female horse) You have the term "Spanish Jennet" confused with a jennet, sometimes used to describe a female mule.

  • Their walk, canter and gallop are the same as any other horse.

  • That's so cool. I'm not much into gaited horses, but they'd be super fun to work with. He looks like a spider. xD

  • "why is her tail tied???"

    ---

a horse twiches its tail when its uncomfertable, in a show you get points taken off if it happens...so some people simply tie the tail up so the horse gets out tof the habbit of moving it

  • paso do jump, but they are not breed for jumping...actually they are a better trail horse then most other horses because of their smooth walk, gallop, cantor, corto, largo, and fino (HA! they can do all that! what can YOUR horse do :P)

  • wow what a good filly!! exito con ella

  • paso fino's are so useless they can not jump, canter, do dressage, and there gate is so frigen ugly i just never want to see it again

  • if you did not know, "a horse is a horse", just because it has fancy foot work, it can do everything that other horses can do to! the plus side to a paso fino is that they can canter, jump, and it is all done very smoothly. so don't knock it till you try it!

  • yeah right i have seen and riden a paso fino that jumps and canters and it is so frigen annoying and retarded

  • Yeah, but this isn't dressage.. this is a natural gait that's been refined a little for riding purposes.. Also, dressage was originally used to train war horses. It certainly wasn't useless or "retarded" back then.. Oh, and everything we do with horses is harnessing things horses do naturally on their own and producing them on request. That's all it is.

  • why is her tail tied???

  • very nice filly.

she reminds me alot of my gelding. what are her bloodlines?

  • I believe the gait is called the "corto". The horse is a Paso Fino. What a lovely smooth ride! If I was going to get a horse for riding this is the breed I'd want. Beautiful!

  • Beautiful mare!! I was hoping he would go over the board, she has an awesome gait!!! Great hocks on that little lady!!

  • someone said that he looked to big for the horse. Some people believe they cant have paso's because they are too big for the small horses, but the paso's are very strong, and they dont need a light rider. I no a woman ho is 6 ft, and she is the best Paso person i no.

  • El caballo esta brutal no tienes otro vid???

  • lol, she looked scared of the telephon pole :P

  • k buena potranca ¿cuales son las lines de sangre de esra?

  • Lovely girl, but why is her tail tied like that?

  • That is quick stepping. Nice

  • amazing gait

  • The gait is called paso fino. No offense taken as I am not the guy riding the horse. That is the trainer and yes he is a bit hefty, but amazing at training. As a norm paso fino horses are much smaller than other horses commonly found in the states. Thanks for the comments.

  • Cool gait, but no offense you look a little too big for that pony.

  • Pretty cool. What is that gait called?
