  • Robert Zemeckis (aka the "uncanny valley/zombie" director) should take note of this..

  • Oh I do wonder what program they were using for the perform capture... does it have anything to do with maya?

  • There was lots of software used, some custom, some specific to the camera hardware, but, most closely related to Maya is a program called "Motion Builder", also (but not originally) made by Autodesk, the makers of Maya, 3DS Max, etc. Motion Builder is essentially a real-time character animation suite which allows one to see the characters move around, live but also the motion can be tweaked or "sweetened" as desired. You can see Motion Builder very briefly at 4:55.

  • Thank you very much for your answer! This movie has gotten me very interested in the field. I am now messing around around with maya motion builder. I heard cameron talking about how emotion capture isn't marker based anymore that their using a real-time image of the actors face and then overlaying the cgi model onto that? is the emotion caught through motion builder? or did I misunderstand him?

  • i always laugh when he says Ju-Ju Beans lol

  • that virtual production camera is a really good idea!
