Not only did Junior bring Pete Fountain to Dad's attention, he also discovered the Lennon Sisters. He was a classmate of Dianne Lennon's and asked her for a date. She said she had to sing with her sisters at a local event and to pick her up afterwards. He heard them sing, was astounded, and brought them to his house to sing for his Dad. The rest is history. Thank you, Larry, you have a great ear!
It's been reported that Junior Welk 'discovered' Pete Fountain, and brought him to Lawrence Welk's attention. That's how Pete became part of the band. Or so they say.
This tune as played here, was in the Coral LP "Lawrence Welk
Presents Pete Fountain" worth looking for.

Larry Jr. looks like a chicken trying to wing it over the Atlantic, but a great old song.

It's a little disturbing that he got his own son to direct such a Freudian song.

I love the comedy and that glorious clarinet sound.

Junior doesn't exactly have a lot to do, does he - just waving his arms about in time to the music!

I've just decided that the clarinet totally rocks
