I assume you speak Arabic, so I'll keep it short: Darab in the context that you're thinking of means neither strike nor beat but to *separate* from. This meaning is confirmed in the Quran, which I assume you can read. Hadith, on the other hand, is not God's word as you know, so any refutation of Islam should come from its only authentic source, the Quran.
Just to add to that however...in the hadith even, it is reported that the Prophet said that you are not allowed to strike your wife, and at this some of the men remarked that now the women have the advantage. This was a social change in pagan arab society.
