So the guy on the right left only because he kicked a sword ?? (I'm sorry I don't really know how these competitions work ! =S) Thats too bad, because I guess like in every kinds of dancing there are very few boys...?
@BritishItalian yea, he knew he got disqualified, so in a championship like this, there really was no point in wasting energy. True, women dominate most forms of dance, but highland dancing actually is a male form of dance... only in the past 100 years have women been allowed to highland dance. crazy right?!
Having danced this dance - about 35 or so years ago, it brought back fond memories. You did a beautiful job! It made me want to get back on my feet and try all over again!
Hi, How do you know when your ready for competitions? I started nearly a year ago and so far i know Fling, Swords, Sean Tribuas, Reel, Lilt and Flora?
Is that above average for someone who started less than a year ago or is it quite bad?
i thought you danced brill my niece is only 10 and has only been dancing 6 mnths but has won endless amounts of medals coming maily 1 st or 2nd we have been told shes a natrel , keepit up x
Awesome dancing.Keep on dancing your heart out and don't worry about the steps and feel the music.I whould like to learn how dance like that but I just don't see there anyone in my town that knows how or what I talking about when I talking about Highland Dancing. 5 *s
AMAZING! I am beginner dancer from Czech republic. I am pure amateur, i am doing it only for my pleasure and I can´t imagine myself to dance like that one day... Beautiful. You´re very talented!
THanks! My high cuts are usually horrible, I think I just got lucky at this comp :) If by on your heels, you mean balls of the feet, then yes, I definitely need to stop dropping my heels...bad habit :)
My grandparents trained me using a cutlass and claymore so I understand why everyone was thrown off by the use of basket swords. I've been dancing since I started walking and you could put me to shame. You're that good.
Thanks! Sometimes it's distracting when they walk off, but the stage was big enough where he could walk far behind my sword. This was a championship so after he kicked the sword, he had no chance of redeeming it so perhaps he wanted to save his energy. At the end of the 3rd step I kicked mine as well, but I wanted to finish for my own self accomplishment. I guess it's different for all dancers and what their teachers have told them to do. Thanks for the comment!
Wonderful work, even if you were DQ-ed. You know where your flaws are which is a step of improvement, though with your talent, there isn't much need for improvement. I've loved watching the dance, but could never participate (besides a guy in a dress just sounds disturbing)
Thanks! At the end of the third step I kicked my sword, so I was DQ-ed. The organizers chose for us to use basket hilt swords which really threw all of us off. She dances with the pipeband I'm in and isn't competitive (sadly). The competiotions are so far away for us anyway. We only just had someone move into our area who is certified to teach for competition. Were in Oregon near Eugene.

man I wish I could do that, it looks super tough, like there's no superflous movement at all. I bet it takes lots of conditioning
