Half of Queen (Brian May on guitar and John Deacon (my favorite member) on bass guitar), Mark Brzezcki and Phil Collins on drums, Howard Jones on keyboards, Gary Barnacle on tenor sax all backing Joe Cocker. Only time that Joe Cocker did "The Letter" a half step higher than what he did on the original recording. Best version ever. John's bass playing is sublime, Gary's sax goes into liftoff with altissimo for Brian's guitar to take over for an epic solo.
@MrRatty69 Flea has nothing on John Deacon. John could play any bass riff plus had a background in playing guitar which he translated into his bass playing.
@tjrrockandrollmaster - Flea! While I don't dispute his chops or talent, he's not interesting enough for me to listen to. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are ooooooooverated and I hate the way the guy siiiiiiinnnnnnnngs! But on the the other hand, John Deacon now he's a different story and a fantastic bass player! Even though Queen are giants Deacon must be 'The Most Underrated Bassist' in the history of Rock N Roll!
The one person on the planet that looks better the older he gets! But who gives a crap? The man has always had the best voice ever! I love you tube! I'm so glad I got to see this! I love Phil Collins, he is such a hoot! And the lead guitarist from Queen. Fan freakin' tastic!
It is Deacon playing bass on this. These were a great series of concerts 86, 87 & 88. However by 89 I think they were losing their way. In 89 Level 42 were the house band and there was a distinct lack of really good artists. Plus Alan Murphy who was with Level 42 that time looked really unwell, he died a couple of months later.
Great horn solos by John Thirkell and Gary Barnacle of the Phantom Horns. They might even qualify as "paint peeling". The reason why they are wearing gloves: because they can.
that´s not mick karn at all! may be "john" isn´t listed on "your" credits (maybe a fault), but look at this man´s hair, the shape of his head, the moves and simply his face at 1:19. if you´re not blind you´re bound to admit that this´s never one other guy than "deacy", sorry.
Sorry for disagreeing, but you can clearly see him at 0:55 while he is walking and playing, at 1:04 with his static swaying while he plays, at 2:22 you can unmistakably see a close shot of John Deacon playing with his characteristic slight head banging! At 3:44 again and at 4:12 he is behind Joe Cocker. Notice his curly hair over JC's figure (;)) Cheers!
i see the guy, but i'm sure that's mick karn - if nothing else because of his wal bass. john deacon isn't listed on the credits of the dvd at any rate.
@groenhvid I am not sure this is John Deacon... Playing a Wal bass too... Not really his stile of playing either.. Far too jumpy playing for John... Especially around the horn solo.... And he wouldn't play the end not like that either..
my band is doing this song, our singer didnt know all the right words though. so we got him the lyrics, but they dont seem to be matching up with this and i can't really understand the part i need to copy down =x "Listen to me mister, don't you hear me ___? for my baby once more" anyone help us out, will be greatly apreciated.
