Gohan only screws uo because the Buu plot told him screw up, not to mention he is the strongest unfused fighter in the series. Otherwise, I don't that Piccolo and Gohan would randomly drop in I.Q. points so that Buu can absorb them.
From what I understand, Gohan evolved beyond the need to transform into a Super-Sayan which was like a "boost" of power and rivaled with a SS3, but without the drawback of how draining it was to maintain SS3.
His evolved normal level of power was now all he needed, there by removing the need for a booster like the Super-Sayan.

gohan = unlimited power. With gohan, he will only draw power when he is really angry and he only gets that angry when some evil happens or his friends and family are in danger. So basically Gohan is the ultimate protector, he will always get the power when the things get rough.

Vegeta let Cell powerup to his final form so that he could a 'fair fight' against Cell and we all how it ended up. Gohan has flaws and he did get cocky but that is not to say he was the only one that was.

Ultimate Gohan could easily beat Buu, Broly etc in this state anyways. The enemy villains who'd be able to push his limits would be Janemba and Hirudagarn (as shown in movie 13)

the most developed character by far. akira made a mistake downgrading him in gt. i bet if gohan fought in his ultimate form in gt it would get much more views than it did. introducing ultimate gohan changed my view towards dbz. its amazing how original akira made gohan by making him look non ssj and at the same time the power up took him beyond ssj3. thats what i like about gohan and he is def the best character in my opinion.
@OSUL101 actually "some stupid company" was toei animation and they were responsible for the entire z anime, filler and movies and games. akira just was sick of serialisation and drawing so he let toei draw for him. he checked their story, helped with designs and helped with the logo/title. gt doesnt suck just cos akira didnt completely write it on his own...thats why buu saga sucked. he had too much control and the editor was too leniant with ludicrous crap.

From what I understand, Gohan evolved beyond the need to transform into a Super-Sayan which was like a "boost" of power and rivaled with a SS3, but without the drawback of how draining it was to maintain SS3.
His evolved normal level of power was now all he needed, there by removing the need for a booster like the Super-Sayan.

gohan = unlimited power. With gohan, he will only draw power when he is really angry and he only gets that angry when some evil happens or his friends and family are in danger. So basically Gohan is the ultimate protector, he will always get the power when the things get rough.

@DaBlackGoku17 He wasn't angry enough.... I think he came to the fight overconfident and then got surprised by buu. That is one of his few flaws, that he toys with his opponent once he gets the upper hand. Goku wouldn't do that I guess, he is more sportsmanship like.

@vitezjura Hold on, it is true that Gohan got cocky with Cell and Buu but that is not to say tha tGohan was the only one who was cocky. Vegeta let Cell powerup to his final form so that he could a 'fair fight' against Cell and we all how it ended up. Later, Goku was more interested in fighting Cell and even thoguh he knew Gohan was more powerful, he didn't know that Gohan wasn't fighter like he was. Gohan has flaws and he did get cocky but that is not to say he was the only one that was.

Gohan should had owned Buu and succeeded as the hero. Goku even lampshades that you shouldn't revive a dead character to keep fighting villians for you yet even after that he still comes back. Oddly.. Gohans Ultimate form is the equivilant, if not greater than goku's SSJ3 transformation - and he wasnt even a SS and pretty much destroyed Buu he was pretty much the strongest in the universe (hich brings me to my final argument - if gohan wSS in this state he could have easily killed Broly, Buu,Janemba, etc. By himself :/ why is it that he never turned SSJ things would have much easier.

@ProjectBlackRose His "mystic" form was already using his Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2 and his potential Super Saiyan 3 powers. He couldn't transform again because he is already using that part. Sure he could turn his hair blond, but he wouldn't gain the power he used to because he's already using it.
Ultimate Gohan could easily beat Buu, Broly etc in this state anyways. The enemy villains who'd be able to push his limits would be Janemba and Hirudagarn (as shown in movie 13)

Originally, he had actually intended for Gohan to take over as the main character after the Cell saga, but everyone wanted Goku to save the day, thus, Gohan was stupidly nerfed. The issue is that power isn't everything, and Goku is the better fighter, more used to fighting beiong much more powerful than himself, so that's why when he faces super buu he does a better job not getting his butt handed to him like Gohan does.

Gohan is still able to turn into Super Saiyan, but it would drain more power than needed. Just look at what happens with SSJ3 Goku when he battled Kid Buu his energy is just consumed so fast. Gohan, I assume didnt see this as a viable option considering how powerful he already is... But that is just what I heard. And also it is kinda stated that he can now access his hidden powers :D

the most developed character by far. akira made a mistake downgrading him in gt. i bet if gohan fought in his ultimate form in gt it would get much more views than it did. introducing ultimate gohan changed my view towards dbz. its amazing how original akira made gohan by making him look non ssj and at the same time the power up took him beyond ssj3. thats what i like about gohan and he is def the best character in my opinion.

@OSUL101 actually "some stupid company" was toei animation and they were responsible for the entire z anime, filler and movies and games. akira just was sick of serialisation and drawing so he let toei draw for him. he checked their story, helped with designs and helped with the logo/title. gt doesnt suck just cos akira didnt completely write it on his own...thats why buu saga sucked. he had too much control and the editor was too leniant with ludicrous crap.

*yawns* Guys, Akira himself said Gohan was the most powerful Z-Fighter in the series(Fusions not counting, as they are not truly "Z-Fighter's"), so YES, Gohan should have ended Buu...Buttt, thanks to some fans *cough* He didnt get the chance. Even against a gotenks+piccolo fusion he was holding his own. That is a DRAMATIC powerup. Hence why Buu absorbed him..though I really did like how Gohan just says, "Fight you? No...Im going to KILL you."
