I don't work in retail or customer service, (just as well) I would have asked her who Santa was and what his cliché has got to do with anything? I probably would have been sacked or reprimanded for it!
So, what has it got to do with anything, do you know?
Be careful if you choose to answer this, it may just be a loaded question! lol
I'm a fundamentalist Christian and I'm appalled that an atheist female believes that it's safe to vent/blog while operating a moving vehicle. I mean just driving while atheist is bad enough.
In fact, if you're a fundamentalist christian, it's a requirement to make up invisible friends so you can have inner monologues where said friends can tell you to watch Fox news. That and pretend you're eating some dead Jew when you're really eating stale crackers and cheap wine.
According to at least one of my CHRISTIAN relatives, Christmas is not even a real holiday and it is wrong to celebrate it. So I would ignore that old bitty. (but you know 40 is not old, I'm going to be 44 soon! lol)
Unless you want your next you tube video to be of you getting into an accident (which would serve you right), or a ticket (which you should get! Where are the cops these days!) you really shouldn't be driving and making your you tube video at the same time. It's as bad as texting while driving.
No jokes i don't even say the so called fake holiday "Merry Christmas." They say it to me and i say...and you to otherwise i just say have a nice day or have a nice weekend.... and if they complain i literally say.....i dont celebrate christmas if they still complain i say "ITS FREEDOM OF SPEECH" and i call em bitch in my heart as i can't say it on premises.
Only a couple of other posters have commented on this, but making a video while driving is really irresponsible, A.P. If you had crashed and killed some innocent pedestrian or driver, this video would have been iron clad evidence of your liability, plus it would have reflected very poorly upon your fellow humanistic atheists. Your story was worthwhile, but it could have waited until you got home, or until the next day. Please think about this the next time.
That's funny. Thanks for sharing. I never could understand the argument that "Happy Holidays" is anti-christian. I have to agree with jergsden's comment about only being happy when they're being persecuted, which so true.
Why do people think "Happy holidays" is a replacement for "Merry Christmas"? "Merry Christmas" specifically addresses Christmas, while "Happy holidays" addresses Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years (which is why its "Happy holidayS" and not "Happy holiday".)
The answer of course is that Christians are only truly happy when they feel persecuted.
Also, a christian behaving very unchristianly...what a surprise.
I work retail also. I do say "Happy Holidays" to every costumer because (1) they expect it and (2) it doesn't bother me to say it and (3) it is, after all, the holiday season to most people I serve. Because of this I haven't been in that situation.
It's the costumer who doesn't realize that there are other people in the store wanting attention also and dominates your time that drive me nuts. Those kind of people cause so much hostility.
I don't know about you guys, but I have taken to saying Eid Mubarak. Yes, I know that none of the Eids are going on right now, but it's my way of mocking the "it's MERRY CHRISTMAS" assholes. (Yes, we have them in Canada too)
It's probably best to just ignore these types of people. If they are so concerned about something so trivial as what pleasantries are utter at a certain time of year, there's almost certainly nothing going on upstairs.
I work at a CVS, and we get some of the most angry customers because a lot of customers are sick and not feeling the best. So their attitude is a lot worse than the average customer at retail.
I tend to find that just saying thank you have a nice day, is the best thing to do. But what would I have done in your position is say something nasty in my head, and walk away and forget about it. Don't even act like you remember her if she comes back.
Find a shirt that has a pentangle and the words "Have a very merry solstice" and practice your evil voice...
Next time an ultrafundie crosses your path retort(in evil voice) "Satan will take your soul... muahahahahahahaha!", watch said fundie run run like a chicken.
My response probably would have been something like "well Merry fucking jesus on a stick Christmas", and then I would have started looking in the help wanted section for a new job. :p
I've always been tempted to say something like "Sorry, that was very Religiously Incorrect of me". Fortunately I've never had the "opportunity".
Back in the days of Political Correctness (yes dear wingnuts, it's been dead for at least 15 years now) I hated being told what to say and how to think. Why would I start liking it now?
Well, working in the meat department at my store, we don't really have to deal with saying the holiday partings (I should ask my cashiers up front if they have too). I really would have said to the woman that we are in a multi-cultural country, technically secular, and we have to appreciate all cultures, and not favor one specific one. And there are some stores, I believe mine is one of them (Safeway), that require us not to favor one holiday in our partings.
To get her to stfu, I would say nicely 'well MERRY CHRISTMAS!' Kill them with kindess. ;) In some of my new videos where i'm playing Wolf team, I said merry christmas, and that's just because it's funny to kill people in games and say merry christmas in response.
On how I would handle it...I already covered it. I'd say "And a Happy Hanukkah to you!" Hoping she would say, "Are you Jewish?" To which I'd say, "No, and I'm not CHRISTIAN either." It seems to get the point across to intolerant retards like her.
atheists have such thin skin. they arent even comfortable with their own position. which is why they imagine all thse slights by the religious. if they were secure they wouldnt care.
Did you know that Humphrey Bogart was born on 12/25? So I celebrate Bogey Day. I have folks over and watch a couple of his movies and say things like, "Bogey is the reason for the season!"
Anyway, I always wish everyone a Happy Bogey Day. Even most religious folks think it's fun.. Occasionally, though, someone will get angry. So, if some woman says, "It's okay to wish me a Merry Christmas," I say something along the lines of, "It's okay to wish ME a Happy Bogey Day, but no-one ever does."
I would answer. "Did not know that? Thanks for informing me I will try to remember that next year. Have a nice evening By!!" and then I would bow a little and begin to help my new customer. Regards and have a skilful life. Pinge
dorbie's right, healthyaddict, I don't care how great a driver you might be, I was like "This isn't a direct upload, is it? She's not gonna crash, right?"
I don't have any feeling on how hard/easy it was to drive and talk about the day at work.
I would not yield to the old lady. I tell my own grandparents they're nuts while eating food they put on the table for me listening to their war times stories and how evil the other side was.
I think you did exactly the right thing. She was already in a pissy mood (and I'm sure you've seen a lot of that this past month). She walked off afterwards. Did you really want to lengthen that encounter?
You gave a standard "good night" with no mention of the holidays at all. Which makes her response weird. I'm assuming she's working off a script where she responds "It's Merry Christmas!" if you said anything but.
Way to keep the Christmas spirit alive, bitchy woman with the stupid button!
I don't know much about the campaign, and I don't think it really goes on here, but if the aim is to keep Christmas "alive" etc. then it's ridiculous and completely counterproductive for someone to use the campaign to be spiteful. She can't seriously expect people to wish her a "Merry Christmas" by glaring at them and not even saying thank you.
UGH. I'm frustrated and it wasn't even me she said it to!
I'm a shop assistant in a gift shop so...I meet a lot of annoying people this time as well. Well, I think my reaction would be "Then merry Christmas, ma'am!" But I'm a Christian and I have to try not to be a jerk. :)
In germany we don't have a more open greeting like "happy holidays" to fall back on. It's "Frohe Weihnachten" or nothing at all. So i dont have any choice. But even as a "radical atheist" (in the douglas adams sence) i dont really mind. People enjoy it so much, and it doesn't cost me a penny to wish them merry christmas and make poeple happy. But i can imagine how difficult that can become, if you need to repeat it all day long :) Frohe Weihnachten to you anyway :)
I don't work retail, but my first reaction would be.
"Firstly Christians stole the pagan holiday of the Winter Solstice. Secondly, Christmas isn't the only Holiday around this time of December. Thirdly, if you can't diferenciate between 'have a nice night' and holiday wishes, then shut up and don't talk."
Hippies are morons. Anti-Christmasites are the worst morons of all. Don't you have some trees to hug or some law abiding citizens to take guns away from?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I am not teaching anyone what the "true meaning" of Christmas is.
I am sick of leftists trying to destroy the values, traditions, and principles that made this country great. It's no coincidence that this country is declining in wealth, power, and prestige as liberalism, immorality, and socialism is on the rise.
@PreparedCitizen You don't get to redefine and ascribe post-facto what values made this country great. SECULARISM is without a doubt one of the key values that made America great. Since then we've had idiots running around making vapid gestures that LIE about the history of America including putting "Under God" in the pledge and "In God we Trust" on our cash. Neither were there at the founding of America nor generations later. Your bullshit did NOT found America.
@PreparedCitizen No YOU'RE the revisionist. Jefferson said "Finding truths in the bible was like finding diamonds in a dung heap" And we KNOW "God" was added to the pledge and our cash. So don't try and pass youe B.S. about revisionism here. Our brains haven't been addled by years of bible study.
Your stupidity really shines through when you spout crap about socialism and liberalism. As a card carrying member of the NRA I'm neither you presumptive dumbass.
Anyone can claim to be a "card carrying member" of anything. Proof lacking, your attempts as a believer of constitutional principles is purely a guise.
Do you have a source? Don't quote something if you are going to paraphrase.
Here is the actual source of your Jefferson quote:
"Abstracting what is really his(Jesus) from the rubbish in which it is buried, easily distinguished by its lustre from the dross of his biographers, and as separable from that as the diamond from the dunghill, we have the outlines of a system of the most sublime morality which has ever fallen from the lips of man..."
- A letter to William Short : October 31, 1819
Paragraph 254
What you quoted is a LIE. Everything else you say is in question.
Actually, this only proves dorbie's point. I don't know how poor your reading comprehension skills are, but Jefferson clearly states there that he had to sift through loads of garbage in the bible to get to what he considered the original sayings of Jesus. Jefferson cut out everything supernatural in his bible and humanized Jesus. This is well known fact.
@TaylorX04 Correct, and thanks, of all the founders to claim as a Christian, no informed Christian would claim Jefferson. And of course there are several others who were clearly not Christian beleivers lest it be thought that secularism is pinned soley on Jefferson. My other posts have just caught up with yours which I just read.
Watching you flail in your own shit as you sink to the bottom of the leftist cess pool you were once born of has been entertaining.
You keep spreading patently false information and people such as me will keep exposing your pathetic incompetence.
How old are you that you think Google is a source? Have you ever been to college? Did you graduate highschool? Because I am positive they still cover citing sources, a basic requirement of non-fiction writing or discussion.
@PreparedCitizen You have all the citations on my original claims and you have the Jefferson Bible and Jefferson's letter to John Adams. There's a mountain of evidence which you simply ignore and point fingers to CYA.
You're a public exhibition of the corrupted cartoon thought processes of religious dogma. Only a self-delusional liar could ignore Jefferson's FAMOUS redacting the supernatural from the Bible and his editing of Jesus into a human philosopher and call TJ a Christian.
Keep those straw man arguments coming. They only reveal the fool you are.
You say I "ignore" evidence. Evidence in regard to a topic I never mentioned. You brought it up. He was a theist. Your reading comprehension skills are lacking if you don't realize Jefferson's theistic tendencies.
Who cares if he edited the Bible? Hell, I don't even believe everything in the Bible. You are side-stepping the real argument of whether or not he was a secularist -- which obviously he was NOT.
@PreparedCitizen There you go with more lies. Now in your cartoon brain people who disagree with you on religion don't pay taxes?! Grow up dumbass, I pay my taxes. Next lie?
"Now you are putting words in my mouth? I never mentioned "religion" even once."
You know that semantic bullshit is all the ammunition I need to show what a two faced scumbag you are. Your entire argument has been about the religious Christian founding of America and in this instance why Jefferson is in your camp.
Ad hominem doesn't help you (do you know what ad hominem is?). You seem happy to slander someone over the internet in your own childish vernacular, but where IS your evidence? I've already told you that quote by Jefferson does not favor your side, neither does the fact that Benjamin Franklin was a known Deist, as were James Madison, John Adams, and Thomas Paine. These were arguably the most influential men in American history. Stop buying into conservative propaganda.
@PreparedCitizen There are several quotes from Jefferson on the same topic. He even went so far as to edit his own bible in which he removed ALL supernatural aspects from the gospels. No angels, trinity, miracles, prophecy. Where does that leave your superstitious nonsense? It could not be clearer what Jefferson did NOT believe in.
@PreparedCitizen, Dude, make your reply ONCE without deleting it after I reply then reposting it with edits. You have your reply above, your post if full of B.S. and you're ignorant of the historical facts.
The history is availabe for all to see. You've challenged the historical facts and demanded citations showing your own profound ignorance concerning them.
Now you have the citations, go do some research before posting bilge and labelling anyone who disagrees with lies a socialist.
There's your evidence liar. I bet you have never even read the source that is why you couldn't cite it. "Google" is not a reference. You have obviously never worked in a field of science or engineering.
I asked for the source of the Jefferson quote and you couldn't supply it.
Stop revising historical quotes. This is the PERFECT example of YOU being a revisionist.
@PreparedCitizen Google is the most powerful database retreival system in history you luddite moron.
You're lying again, you challenged all information without specificity, I supplied what I could in the space allotted by the youtube reply size limit.
As I said there is a lot of historical information on Jefferson including his letters. He was at best a deist, certainly not a Christian. That's why he edited his own bible to remove all the bullshit from the gospels.
You have made a FOOL of yourself and I am laughing at your pure stupidity.
I never challenged when "God" was put on the money. I don't care if he was or not. You added that.
I spoke of the founding fathers not of Eisenhower or the faith of previous generations.
You seek to misdirect the conversation. Last I checked Eisenhower did not live in the revolutionary period. Or maybe you have a quote to place him there too? LOL
Look at you trying to DODGE and DUCK the blatant lie you told.
You LIED about what Jefferson said. That makes you a LIAR and since it's a historical quote a REVISIONIST.
I never denied any acts of congress. You bringing that up makes a good point in favor of what I said in my original post.
Congress felt strong enough about conservative values that they added a phrase about trusting God to the national currency because it reflected the vast MAJORITY of Americans' belief in God.
@PreparedCitizen Wrong, Jefferson said what I quoted he said. He is widely and extensively quoted as saying it. He further backed it up by editing your precious bible to remove ALL supernatural references and treated Jesus as a simple philosopher. So his actions back up the intent of the quote.
Your own quote is an edited version.
You can spin this however you like but I did not lie and history sides with me on the true nature of Jefferson's beliefs.
@PreparedCitizen There is no space for it here, and YOU didn't post it either. It is NOT his only mention of it and the quote is correct.
The proof is there you revisionist liar, do deny it is just disgraceful but typical of a two faced 'Christian'.
There's a whole frigging Jefferson Bible where he's edited out ALL the miracles, the trinity, angels and left Jeuus as a philosopher. He also called the priests who wrote and perpetuated YOUR gospels profiteering charlatans. PROOF!
You mean the pleasure of that warm feeling in your pants when I put rounds down your way? As for being on the 'field', your momma's basement doesn't count.
I have served my country in more of a capacity you ever will. I have been in the field more times than you have been to your refrigerator to feed your fat ass.
Once a Marine always a Marine. Damn proud of it, something you would never understand
I continue to serve my country as a civilian. As my discussion was not with you, I will refrain from responding to your pathetic existence any more.
LOL look at dorbie the LIAR trying to point fingers. I have NOT said a lie in this discussion at all. Yet your primary "proof" was a complete false-hood concocted by you or one of your moronic associates.
@PreparedCitizen You've lied and called me a socialist and a liberal, you've lied and said I'm not in the NRA you've lied about Jefferson's beliefs, you've lied and called me a liar for posting an accurate quote. You've lied about the secular nature of America. You've lied about challenging historical facts w.r.t. the pledge and currency. And you're still lying about Jefferson's beliefs even after he edited the supernatural out of the bible.
@PreparedCitizen Just nonsense. A theist doesn't edit theism out of the bible and leave Christ as a human philosopher.
You seem to think that Jefferson spent many hours editing the bible and only mentioned it once. I also cited his letter to John Adams. The bottom line is you're still trying to recruit Jefferson as a Christian and you don't have a leg to stand on.
Quit dodging and admit it or are you still dishonest enough that you're ignoring your recent education.
Let's say Jefferson was not a Theist (which I believe he was), and simplify his beliefs to deism. Even as a deist he is not a secularist.
Jefferson must have been a hypocrite if what you say is true, considering he attended church services in the capital building on January 3, 1802. This was two days after penning the famous "wall" letter to the Danbury Baptist Association
@PreparedCitizen Okay, again, theism/deism NOT the opposite of secularism, "the view that public education and other matters of civil policy should be conducted without the introduction of a religious element." This is entirely compatible with any religious viewpoint that doesn't require you to push people around.
This guy dorbie is claiming TJ was a secularist. A secularist would not have attended church services nor invited a minister to oversee said services at the Capitol building.
I am tired of arguing with that nitwit. No matter what evidence I provide contrary to his lies, he continues to evade and redirect the topic at hand.
"Theist" and "Secularist" are not opposites. One can be both. In fact, one can be both a Christian and a secularist, and I know many who are. Secularists just do not believe that their religion gives them the right tell everyone else what to do.
You're right, of course, about him being a deist at best (or worst). I was just saying, even if the other guy (already forgot his name) was right about TJ being a theist, he could be (and clearly was) a secularist.
And how would you know in what capacity I have served? Are you one of those idiots that think that only bonehead kneejerk right wing jack asses serve in the military? One thing that I do know is that all the veterans I know don't spew about treason as lightly as you do . If you are what you say you are, then you're a disgrace to the uniform, you seditious piece of shit. The only pathetic one here is you and your fit for only firing squad bait, traitor.
@HeavyTrafficAhead Ah you noticed that too, yea couldn't wait to put one between my horns for being something he imagine's me to be (and I'm not) because I don't share his religious assumptions, and he let his fantasies run away there. Shouldn't get old war horses too excited, he probably listens to too much Rush Limbaugh, I used to too.
@PreparedCitizen, pssst, NOW's the time to start quoting Jefferson for the win. Something about the tree of liberty. I'm sure you'll find in of you google for it.
That same oath also requires you to obey all lawful orders by the officers appointed over you up to, and including the Commander-In-Chief. Last I looked I didn't see any declaration that there is a state of insurrection any where in the territorial United States. The only one making seditious statements is you, so go to the room down the hall, there you'll find a pistol with one round in it. Do the right thing
I would have said sorry ma'am... I'm Jewish, or Rastafarian, Or hell even a Jehovah's witness since they don't celebrate. Unfortunately I choose to push the buttons on people like that but I understand you need to keep your job.
Man, it's too bad that I'm an old guy in my 40s. You are such a beautiful and intelligent woman. I envy the significant other in your life!
Anyway, I think you handled the situation the best you could. It's best to let such a miserable person to be on their "merry" way and just know in your head that your life is infinitely better than that bitter old cow's will ever be.
It just goes to show that some people just LOOK for things to be offended over. I guess it's fun to have a persecution complex.
Wow, you didn't even say "Happy Holidays", and she still blew up like you raped Jesus or something. How pathetic. You'd think that people that profess to have the love of God would be happier people.....
I work that kind of job as well, I would have just smiled and said, "Ok, thank you, have a good day." Some of the people who come through my line on any given night seem insane.
Happy Holidays is a meaningless term. Valentine's Day? Patriots Day? The issue is Political Correctness is destroying the English language so a small minority is not offended. Merry Christmas is not an Evangelical issue. It's a free speech issue.

Also, a christian behaving very unchristianly...what a surprise.
jergsden 2 years ago
I work retail also. I do say "Happy Holidays" to every costumer because (1) they expect it and (2) it doesn't bother me to say it and (3) it is, after all, the holiday season to most people I serve. Because of this I haven't been in that situation.
It's the costumer who doesn't realize that there are other people in the store wanting attention also and dominates your time that drive me nuts. Those kind of people cause so much hostility.

@PreparedCitizen A source? Learn your history MORON.
"In God We Trust" first on coin in 1864 then made motto in 1957 U.S. Code at 36 U.S.C. § 302
June 14th 1954 Eisenhower signs act adding "under God" to pledge. Earliest reference by any U.S. citizen is 1948.
Google Jefferson bible dung heap.
How dare you not know this yet spout crap and redact your earlier lies.
Knowing about the the secular founding of our republic does not make anyone a liberal you bible addled fool.

PreparedCitizen 2 years ago
Actually, this only proves dorbie's point. I don't know how poor your reading comprehension skills are, but Jefferson clearly states there that he had to sift through loads of garbage in the bible to get to what he considered the original sayings of Jesus. Jefferson cut out everything supernatural in his bible and humanized Jesus. This is well known fact.
TaylorX04 2 years ago
@TaylorX04 Correct, and thanks, of all the founders to claim as a Christian, no informed Christian would claim Jefferson. PreparedCitizen 2 years ago
@PreparedCitizen Bollocks, now you're trying to revise our discussion.
You think like a cartoon character calling people who disagree with you socialists, liberals and treehuggers.
Eisenhower signed the Act of congress adding under God to the pledge so you make my case for me.
You seem incapable of following a simple point. Which is understandable for someone so badly brain damaged by years of bible study.
dorbie 2 years ago
Look at you trying to DODGE and DUCK the blatant lie you told.
You LIED about what Jefferson said. That makes you a LIAR and since it's a historical quote a REVISIONIST.
I never denied any acts of congress. You bringing that up makes a good point in favor of what I said in my original post.
Congress felt strong enough about conservative values that they added a phrase about trusting God to the national currency because it reflected the vast MAJORITY of Americans' belief in God.
PreparedCitizen 2 years ago
@PreparedCitizen Wrong, Jefferson said what I quoted he said. He is widely and extensively quoted as saying it. He further backed it up by editing your precious bible to remove ALL supernatural references and treated Jesus as a simple philosopher. So his actions back up the intent of the quote.
Your own quote is an edited version.
You can spin this however you like but I did not lie and history sides with me on the true nature of Jefferson's beliefs.
dorbie 2 years ago
Just because a LIE is widely repeated by other LIARs and pathetically incompetent individuals does not make it a truth.
Stop trying to justifying your lie. It's not working.
"Your own quote is an edited version".

I have NEVER made any claims to Jefferson's beliefs. Only that he was a theist and not a secularist. You added all that other garbage.
STRAW MAN ARGUMENTS, is what you try to use to make yourself look good. Poor try.
PreparedCitizen 2 years ago
@PreparedCitizen Just nonsense. A theist doesn't edit theism out of the bible and leave Christ as a human philosopher.
You seem to think that Jefferson spent many hours editing the bible and only mentioned it once. I also cited his letter to John Adams. The bottom line is you're still trying to recruit Jefferson as a Christian and you don't have a leg to stand on.
Quit dodging and admit it or are you still dishonest enough that you're ignoring your recent education.
dorbie 2 years ago
Let's say Jefferson was not a Theist (which I believe he was), and simplify his beliefs to deism. Even as a deist he is not a secularist.
Jefferson must have been a hypocrite if what you say is true, considering he attended church services in the capital building on January 3, 1802. This was two days after penning the famous "wall" letter to the Danbury Baptist Association
PreparedCitizen 2 years ago
@PreparedCitizen Okay, again, theism/deism NOT the opposite of secularism, "the view that public education and other matters of civil policy should be conducted without the introduction of a religious element." This is entirely compatible with any religious viewpoint that doesn't require you to push people around.
OgreVI 2 years ago
@OgreVI I am not saying they are opposites.
PreparedCitizen 2 years ago
@PreparedCitizen
"Theist" and "Secularist" are not opposites. One can be both. In fact, one can be both a Christian and a secularist, and I know many who are. Secularists just do not believe that their religion gives them the right tell everyone else what to do.
OgreVI 2 years ago
@OgreVI Whoooooaaaa, that's socialist talk.
You're correct although I would say Jefferson was a Deist at best.
dorbie 2 years ago

Nice "Christian" spirit from that old bag.
Sure, let's get all bitchy with each other and FORCE each other to wish everybody good tidings exactly the same way.
"If you don't wish me well in a way that acknowledges my superior religious beliefs, then FUCK YOU!!"
Classy...
How would I respond? Water off a duck's back... Some people CHOOSE to be angry snits -- nothing you do can make them happy (or "merry").

Closest I've come to that is working behind a bar at Uni. Near word for word actually.
I was closing up the bar and saw a bunch of elderly people about to leave. I called over, you guys have a good night, safe journey.
The oldest guy turned to me and said' It's Merry Christmas'
To which I countered... 'not yet it's not. It's only the 19th'.
I think I did well not to wish him a sexy Saturnalia.

I work that kind of job as well, I would have just smiled and said, "Ok, thank you, have a good day." Some of the people who come through my line on any given night seem insane.
