@0JustShelbi0 Out of love for you rat, you should really consider getting another rat. Since rats are so social, they really live much happier lives if they have one or more rats to interact with. If you do it, you'll make Whiskes (good name btw!) much happier, healtheir, and entertaining, most likely. Not to intrude or be bossy or anything, I just like to try to help pet owners be the best they can be. I should also say that I'm not a rat expert, but I've read this from multiple sources.

rats are not something for babies, no matter how sweet the rats may seem they are highly intelligent and if he does something they don't like they WILL show it. that's why they are for ages 10 and up. BTW one of them is NOT a fancy rat it's actually a dumbo rat.

I've had pet rats before and they are great pets! You're right they don't bite but be careful if you have food smell on your hands because they might bite. I liked to feed mine apple cores, lol

Rats are much cleaner, they DON'T bite, unlike hamsters, they are much smarter, and they bond way better with humans. They're some of the best pets you can have.

i just wanted2say1other thing. just a warning. dont keep them2close to the couch. they will chew a hole in it threw the cage. i kept mine next to a wall and they chewed chunks off the drywall threw the cage. they love to chew and will chew up eveything. plastic, wood, fabric..... even chew on there cage. just wanted to let yu know. I had rats for years they can get stinky but are so much fun. I miss rats so much. You guys are going to have a blast with them. your ratties are cute and have fun!

Aside from me totally being disgusted by rats, gotta admit, they're pretty cute, and they seem to be a geat first pet for Tripp! How did you decide on rats? and was it intended for a first pet for Tripp?

We originally wanted to get hims a turtle for his first pet. But I read bout too many kinds dying from their pet turtles Salmonella!! So we nixed that idea and did research. Fancy rats are PERFECT! They don't bite, they love people, they bond well with you, they can learn tricks, they groom themselves like cats, and they only live about 3 years on average. We had no idea rats were such good pets, but they are some of the best pets yo can get!
