  • captured everything they hoped to with this..

  • 1 dislike? Dave felt left out....

  • this is one of my favorite songs ever.

gives you a sense of hopelessness mixed with the greatest expression of love, "you're going to make it better for a while"...

perfect for when you're down in the dark.

  • this song is great. i can't believe it exists! What a fuckin awesome riff.

  • i copy from the 45" single back cover :

    "Down In The Dark (Lanegan/Johnson)

Mark Lanegan - vocals, Mike Johnson - electric guitar, Jack Endino - bass & 2nd electric guitar, Mark Pickerel - drums , Kurt Cobain - background vocals "

there's no nirvana in this song, sorry ... it's a Mark Lanegan/Mike Johnson song on Mark Lanegan's first solo album "The Winding Sheet" !

  • @gabriel72r Ahh I wish more people knew that. I'm glad explained that because I was about to.

  • @RushAnthem69 haha here in youtube ... it is all about how many more hits !!! ( read Nirvana on title) cheers

  • this is pretty cool.

i cant believe i just now discovered they wrote a song together.

    damn, its good.

  • actualy it's not nirvana, it's Lanegan and Cobain :) The song is on Lanegan solo album

  • @b0n3z0r

krist is playing bass on most tracks, and dave is drumming on a good few, so it's pretty much nirvana and lanegan.

  • @smcdaid075

no, wrong, dave is not with one song on the album.

cobain just on this and wheredid u sleep last night as backing vocals.

and actually it´s jack endino on bass on the most songs.

really, don´t care too much about that, it just doesnt really matter, it´s good music, so no argument needed.

  • @smcdaid075 wrong...

  • Courtney You're Gonna Die Someday....

  • @curtc1 Really?

  • They actually harmonized very well with each other. Almost like a perfect match.

  • baby youre gonna die someday

  • Everyone loved Kurt.

  • @Methstories i dont

  • This is actually Jack Endino on bass and second guitar. then it's Mike Johnson on normal guitar. Krist did nothing with this song, although he did do a song on this album. Also, Kurt just did backing vocals.

  • This song its perfect to be an intro for a Tv Serie :D. Damn this fucking goooood.

  • mark pickerel two times XD grunge is not death, we are the proof or it

  • Love this tune, NIRVANA were so humble.Wish we had them back.If you listen to the rhythm guitar, it sounds very Foo Fighters, especially the whole song in the chorus.

  • Love this tune, NIRVANA were so humble.Wish we had them back.

  • The title should be Mark Lanegan and The Jury - Down in the Dark

  • @TheToastBrothers oh yeah, and 3 of the Jury's songs can be found on the box set With the Lights Out. They're all Leadbelly covers: They Hung Him on a Cross, Ain't it a Shame, and an instrumental version of Grey Goose.

  • @JohnnyLurg I always thought after he did time in prison he was set free, have to check that out. Got a film on leadbelly and Arlo Guthrie, that's song writing from the fucking heart and they didn't take any shit.

  • @jczother fuck yeah. its amazing how little people have never heard of leadbelly or arlo. hah. both obviously very different but both great guys.

  • @TheToastBrothers The Jury was a short-lived Leadbelly cover band fronted by Kurt Cobain and Mark Lanegan. The band lasted a little over a week. In Cobain's Journals, there is at least one sketch of the Jury's album cover.

  • i heard about this isnt this kurt, krist from nirvana and mark lanegan and the drummer from screaming trees as a band called the jury or is this something else

  • @afuckhead1 Yea some kid on youtube always says they formed a side project called the jury, but i have a hard time believing that

  • you guys.. stop the arguing. its a leadbelly cover...

  • Lol let me be the millionth person on here to say this is Mark Lanegan's song. Kurt and Krist played on it yes, but calling it Niravna & Mark Lanegan takes too much credit away from Mark. Especially because he and Screaming Trees get lost in the shuffle a lot of the times. Putting up a picture of Nirvana up in the background is also stupid.

  • Great!

  • lol this is a song of Mark Lanegan featuring Kurt Cobain, Jack Endino and Mark Pickerel... Not Nirvana man...

  • Cool song... love it...

  • what a beautiful song

  • he died today:(

  • They both have such powerful voices. Amazing song :)

  • I had no idea Lanegan worked with Nirvana?? this is so weird I thought I herd everything kurt did.

  • Lanegan didn't work with Nirvana. Kurt Cobain worked with Lanegan. This is from Lanegan's album, and the rest of Nirvana was not involved.

  • @ParadoxBaklash Know what you are talking about before you tell others off. Krist Novoselic also had a hand in "The Winding Sheet". He plays bass on "Where did you sleep last night".

  • @Kravis63 Two members of the band played on one song, so...still not Nirvana. Gotcha.

  • i read that mark wanted to start a band with kurt and krist at the time the winding sheet was recorded but kurt wanted to do his own thing with nirvana.

  • hehhh

  • "I don't have very long" - thats cobain, right?

  • You can hear Kurt singing with Mark when they sing "You will"

  • How different Mark's voice was back then. The older he gets it's starting to remind me more and more of Tom Waits.

    Fuckin A

  • I've always thought the exact same thing. And Tom Waits is awesome. I don't think Mark could do some of the things Waits does though. I can't imagine Mark releasing songs like Romeo Is Bleeding or The Piano Has Been Drinking

  • I totally agree on those two songs, but you can't tell me Mark wouldn't do a righteous cover of Goin' Out West :)

  • Or Hold On! :D

  • This is most defo Lanegan singing lead - he is simply one of the most incredible rock singers of the past 20 years. I have to admit I don't love this song as much as I should.

  • yep, its mark on lead, kurt does backing vox and im pretty sure he played some gtr on it to.

  • anyone no chords 4 this?

  • is krut singing?

  • yep... that's Kurt singing.. you can hear Mark's really deep voice rumbling in the background lol

  • thats Mark in the foreground not Kurt. "you will" harmony is w/ kurt and mark.

  • What are the chords to this song?

  • No. Sorry man i´ve looked at all nirvana page but.....I found nothing.

  • Same here. I'm hoping someone who plays guitar better than me would be able to help.lol

    I still play this song,but I know I got it wrong.lol

  • pleas give me the tabs.... ;-)

  • Kurt is my God. Lanengan is my Jesus

  • @Gromek445 try switching that one around

  • @volaris123d i have tied it just dosent work for me man but i respect both of them as men and as an artist

  • @Gromek445

My how sad you are. If you want something worthwhile to worship, I have an old sock I used to wank inside of...

  • @darnok0611

    noooo bitch

  • @Gromek445 who's our devil? :)

  • @majorisore LADY GaGa!!!! :o(

  • @majorisore our devil is hip hop and all yhat trashy music...!! or the devil could be the fucking shot gun tht kurt used....shit I got to cry.....later...:(

  • @majorisore

who's our devil?? There's fuckin hell in music nowadays!

  • @Gromek445 hahaha nice one

  • if it wern't for mtv abd NIRVANA I might have never discovered the SCREAMING TREES because MTV played them after the whole GRUNGE thing got national notorieghty. For those of you not familiar with S.T. checkout early stuff "TRANSFIGURATIOn" and the whole cassette "UNCLE ANESThsia".

  • i heard about the screaming trees on the radio there on the radio alot still

  • what city is that that they play Grunge on the radio. I'm living in the wrong region obviously because they play way to much R&B here and the same 5 sknrd songs over and over.

  • grand rapids michigan lol everyday on like one of my favorite stations they play nirvana songs in the morning : D,97.9, 96.1 are the stations

  • Dude you're from Grand Rapids? I live like 15 minutes from Flint. That's cool that have a station devoted to Nirvana.... well kinda..... I wish it was more so Grunge.

  • Seattle. 107.7 The End Original Alternative or 99.9 The Rock.

  • Yeah,I'm sure it's only Nearly Lost You though. But you could be lucky enough to live in Seattle.

  • kurt is a huge influence on mark he had equally just as much to do with this beautiful song

  • Ridiculous comment, it's the other way round, Kurt used to send fanmail to Lanegan. They subsequently met and became friends.

Down in the Dark is written by Lanegan and Mike Johnson (ex Dinosaur Jr).

  • thank you for your correction lol i was kinda close im only 19 so there still alot of pieces missing in the puzzle for me mark is a big idol to me but theres loads that branch aroud like malfunkshun mother love bone mad season temple of the dog melvins mr bungle alice in chains nirvana sound garden im shit with knowledge but music goes to my heart not head

  • nirvana at one point had toured with dinosaur jr. it was in like 89 in europe was one of the times

  • Watch the MTV complete and uncut interview with Kurt Loder. Its probably my favorite Nirvana interview on youtube. Cobain talks about how he and mark recorded this....

where can i find this interview ??!?!?

  • sweet

    i always loved this song

  • anybody got tabs plzz i need them

  • Kurt sounds good on this and really compliments Mark, though Mark stands alone just fine.

  • Watch the MTV complete and uncut interview with Kurt Loder. Its probably my favorite Nirvana interview on youtube. Cobain talks about how he and mark recorded this....

  • where can i find this interwiew ? :D plz

  • I think you might be thinking of Pat Smear...

  • great song

  • This is Mark Lanegan. He wrote it, he sings it, its on his album "The Winding Sheet".

Kurt just does some backup vocals and maybe some guitar.

  • This is off of Marks first solo album "The Winding Sheet" So technically its Mark Lanegan with Nirvana. lol Pretty cool stuff

  • who sings?? only mark lanegan??

kurt just play the guitar or also sings??

  • kurt+mark=genius
