When you think about it, Ant is the most important missing link in Genesis. His musical imput was, and would have continued to be, far heavier than Pete's or Steve's.And is'nt it the music that matter's most? When you think about it.
This is one of my favorite of Pillips stuff...but is this part of a song he has ever officially recorded? It is just incredible but I have never heard this on an album before.
simply one of the best! What an amazing band genesis were with phillips, gabriel, banks and rutherford not to mention the late comers(hackett and collins)
I honestly think Phillips is a better acoustic guitarist than Hackett. Electric is a different story, but when it comes to acoustic techniques, he's the man.
@jhillst Well I always said you really can't compare Ant and Steve as far as electric goes. Ant sounded more like a mainstream late 60's acid rock guitarist on those first two albums, like he was trying to copy Clapton and Page etc, while Steve had his own style of playing. I think Steve is phenomenal but Ant is definitely underrated as a guitarist - I actually wish he'd do more electric stuff now in his solo career, he could really rock it out, it shows on those early recordings.
One of my fave songwriters and guitarists. Find yourself a copy of his early album, "The Geese and the Ghost" What a great album of evocative and dreamy music.
I'm not sure, I know one of the big reasons he left Genesis was immense stage firhgt. I wouldnt be surprised if he did small shows once in a while, but I couldnt picture him doing like a legitimate "tour" type of thing. And also, if he did try and do a tour, not many people know who he is, and I don't think it would go over well.
This is early Genesis at its finest. Sure hated when he left the band. But we got Steve Hackett, which added new sounds and directions for the band.

it's strange you should mention that, the reason he quit Genesis was because he had mega stage fright when playing live!

Does he actually do concerts and tours then? or is it just small shows every now and again?
