my mother smoked when i was being concived in a fetus and im healthy so this shows that age and genetics can play a role in unhealthy babies but the only problem that my mother caused by smokeing is almost killing me with my afterbirth and me haveing double penumonia when i was 3 weeks old so that is the only things i have been through so if your reading this and your thinking of haveing kids don't smoke please your future child is at risk

You are right. But smoking is not , by far, the only reason for unhealthy babies. Malnutrition, genetics, old age, etc. are also a cause for disorders in the new born. In any case I agree with you that smoking kills.

@sagi7ario Genetics play a part, but mostly if the mother is healthy, the child will be healthy. Just because you are pregnant does not mean you can eat whatever you think of. It is crucial that you watch EVERYTHING. The air you breathe, the amount of stress you need to deal with... Everything affects the child. Everything.

if we're talking about irresponsible mother's then i have to tell you about this one chick. about 3-4 years ago used to throw a lot of parties and amongst the people wgo swung by a couple of times was this MARRIED couple in their early 20s. Both of them smokers. And then the chick got pregnant and she continued to come to smoke and come to the parties, even as she got pregnanter and pregnanter. Last time she was 8,5 months pregant when i saw her ....

The spot was incredibly successful. A six month supply of "I Can Quit" kits blew out in 6 weeks.

Pregnant women who smoke are by and large teens, and poor. They know it's bad. So instead of preaching to them about the baby, we targeted their self-interest.

BTW - most of the crew were volunteers and most were also smokers.
