The invention and creacón of Felix Wankel, small engine, have been used in the aero, space industry cars, bike, boats, airplanes, industry and until in RC car, Wankel Rotary engines most versatile and powefull. I own two generations, the first generation with 1983 12A and a second generation Turbo II 13B 1987 Is love these two babies and I will never return to the pistons
@pieces5 The truth is that, rebuilt a rotary engine is more easy that a piston engine, If it has remained ten years without igniting, the damages more common by the age are water seals, O Ring, oil seals etc., . Most important it is to maintain all the pieces in the same order in which the disarmaments, But for best result, are recommendable rebuilt by a specialist in rotary engines. or to buy a engine with guarantee, is my better advice.
HELL Yeah! I have had a 83 12a (STOCK) and a mildly modified 87 Turbo II also. It put 230HP to the wheels/ 210 tq. I was WICKED! Now I have 82 12a and 85 GSL-SE that I am going to transplant the entire drive train from the GSL-SE into the 82. Should be fun! Rotaries Forever!
I've said it before, I'll say it again. The true test of an engines design is its application in industrial uses, not just cars. In a car, the motor is a power plant, not much more. In industry, the motor is the most important aspect of what you are using it for.
You don't see wankel engines used anywhere outside of automotives for a reason. They aren't reliable (regardless what you fanboys think), and they don't scale worth shit.
It's a novelty motor that had one useful application, the 787b.
@LiveWire8241 Are you trolling? Less than .05% of all aircraft engines are rotary designs. You will also never see a rotary motor powering a ship, or a lathe, or a pneumatic pump, or for a heating element... etc etc. Wankels aren't used in industry other than the occasional home built aircraft. Turboprops and jet engines have NOTHING in common with rotary motors... God I hope you were trolling and not that stupid.
@cyberslick18 I never said they are a type of wankel engine I said they are a type of rotory engine. Clearly you are trolling and I am not based on the fact that plane engines fucking spin in a circular direction. Dont be an idiot. Also fun fact; more than 50% of quoted statistics are made up.
Hey CSlick..I see your point. But that would make it as admirable a "novelty" engine as any Ferrari, Lambo, Porshe, Etc...as NONE of them have any Industrial applications. And John Deere licensed HUGE rotaries for industrial applications not long ago (S.C.O.R.E.) and they even utilized Diesel Fuel. The Rotary has had MUCH less development time than ANY modern design . Although when done RIGHT it "Impresses MANY!".
@RotorMedic7 You are comparing specific motors to an overall design, which are two different things. I'm talking push-rod vs rotary. If you were to compare the amount of push-rod design engines compared to rotary engines in industry today, it'd be something like 99:1
Rotaries are fine engines in their own regards, but there is a reason they haven't took off like wildfire, they are just inefficient in many parameters, and they don't scale well. Maybe time will change that, who knows.
@rockondon i have a 92 Efini and i got mine up to 110 on the autobahn to bad it is still factory tuned to Jspec so that is when the govenor kicked in but i was only at 4K RPM's so more than likely yours will do 180
awesome video.. you should know that at 2:30 the blue FB is actually Grand National V6 powered, my buddy owns it and bought it from a guy from Nebraska who did the conversion :)

@cyberslick18 Planes are a type of rotory bud, not piston. I don't mean to be a douche, but fail.
