Many people in areas are professionals, lay persons, etc. Everyone in this world has a call on their lives. Not all are called to be married. A few have been called to Christ Himself to pray for the church, mankind, etc. The latter is a vocation that prays and works constantly for Christ which are nuns, priest, & friars.

This makes me smile.  - I shouldn't ruin it by waxing on how wonderful this is, but we had a convent in my hometown who I could never imagine running, especially in their habits. All the nuns I knew were loving and helpful in our community and to see them out there like this, instead of doing what the bible thumpers do, is most Christ-like.

I was also on the cross-country team and I agree that it not only helped me physically, but as a shy kid, it boosted me toward being successful as an adult.

I would like to refer you to a scripture passage: In Mt 9:15 when the Pharisees ask Jesus why his disciples don't fast, Jesus answers "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast." Jesus is The true Bridegroom, and the entire Church is His bride. Sisters take vows to live this spousal relationship with Jesus now, instead of waiting for heaven. So yes, nuns are married to Jesus.

I am one of the Sisters from the Children's Home. About a year ago someone posted a comment with concern about the children needing knee replacements at an early age. I just would like people to know we talked to several doctors before beginning the running program, and every doctor strongly encouraged us to do the program. Each child gets a new pair of running shoes every 3 months.  We use running shoes designed to minimize any damage from impact on pavement.
