  • God and evil? LOL. When was Zeus good? He is as much a douche bag as the Titans.

  • lmao was this really on the history channel?

  • Typhon looks Asian...

  • @grh013 i fan god of war but that game is fake story kratos not kill any god in real

  • why do they always get ugly ass characters

  • nononononono!

    kratos have killed zeus!

  • much epic than clash of the titans

  • As interesting as Greek Myth and Legend is , yet again there are numerous misconceptions that lead new advocates astray, what happened to the real deal,Greek Myth has a select few like the Infamous God Of War Series ,documentaries like these, and even some shows like Hercules the Legendary Journeys to withhold Greek Myth's true Character.

  • well hercules is suppose to be heracles hercules is in rome name and greek name is herakles

  • Not good and Evil...Order and Chaos...

  • We saw this during my Greek literature class, amazing work, congrats

  • Typhon wasn't there weapon, Gaea was upset that Zeus subjected the Titans to the same fate as Cyclops and Hundred hand Giants. So she reproduced with tartarus to defeat Zeus but things didn't go that well. Cronus was just like Uranus saw that such monsters where to ugly to live on the surface that's why they left and imprison them in the Underworld. As professors they should know this.

  • Typhon, along with his wife and niece, Echidna, parented most of the monsters in Greek Mythology. From what I heard, Gaia, mother of the Titans and grandmother of Zeus, was angry at her grandson for punishing all of the Titans so she gave birth to Typhon in order to punish Zeus for what he did. Typhon was equated to the Egyption god of chaos, Set. Both attacked the main gods and both were sons of the earth.

  • i love this show, i really hope for season 2, also love the eye of zeus, and the titans

  • i love this show!!! i hope they make another season ^_^

  • textsorsicem!! the power of the internet compels you! the power of the internet compels you!

  • i love this show

is there going to b another season?

    im dying to know!

  • Like many have said, I hope there'll be a second season. So many left in Greek/Roman alone, let alone the mythologies of the Americas, African, Eastern Asian, Hindu, and so many more.

  • Dammit this was a fresh and unique show! Why can't history channel see the value in exciting programs dealing with subjects such as this instead of rolling on with tired out WW2 and novelty documentaries that we've seen a million times?!

  • @evilmick66

We don't know who really runs History Channel. But one thing that is clear, I'm tired of hearing about WW2 and Hilter this and Hilter that. Makes me think History Channel has fans of Hilter running their network. But that's my option.

  • I like this show. I hope more will be made.

  • lol what happened to this show? I only saw Zeus, Hades, Medusa, Hercules.. I think.. did it stop or did I just miss them? I loved it so much.

  • Oh yeah saw Minotaur as well.

  • We did ten episodes. The six others in addition to those you mentioned were - The Labyrinth of the Minotaur, Odysseus: Curse of the Sea, Odysseus: Warrior's Revenge, Thor, Beowulf and Tolkien's Monsters.

It doesn't look like there will be a season two.

  • Really? There should be a season 2. It was so amazing.. and I loved all the experts on the show and everything.

  • @dellacastle there's no season 2? I really want a season 2. This is my favorite show in the History Channel.

  • Mount Aetna was thrown on him :P

  • Etna*

  • Aetna is the old name in Latin, derived from Αἴτνη (Aítnē) in Classical Greek

  • who won?

  • i'll give you a hint- its not the person trapped under a volcano.

  • The Olympian gods won, lol.

  • ALL HAIL THE GODS!!!!

  • where's kratos in all of this!!?!?!? lol...

  • @Camilo19832001 HAHAHAHA :D kratos does rock

  • Greek Myth came first by a couple thousand years but you close. Christians just copied it and changed the characters.

  • that is correct

  • @Daguan47 Examples please or shut up

  • @ nestical, you must be a harcore bible nut that takes the bible literally and probably don't think dinosaurs are real either... Deucalion and Pyrrha vs Noah's Ark

Do your own research if you want other examples there are plenty and you might actually learn something about the bible from it.

  • @Daguan47 lol, do my own research? You're the one throwing around allegations with no facts to back it up. Ugh, idiot

  • You want more examples check out the striking similarities between the "Golden Age" of Greece and the Garden of Eden and I'm not throwing allegations around take the time to read the stories even Hellen fucking Keller can see the writers of the bible got their source material from other mythologies.

  • I'm not joining your little argument, but you really are making a lot of assumptions based on lack of evidence.

What is the truth about these sources? The truth is that there is insufficient evidence to make an appropriate assertion. Any attempt to do so is merely conjecture.

I personally believe that the reason the two stories you mention are similar is because they are both based on a real historic event. I have no evidence for this. It's just a matter of faith. At least I can recognize it

  • You are entirely too ignorant to argue I'll say you might be well-versed on the bible (though I doubt that) but you have no clue about Greek or any other cultures mythologies and still you make these claims there is no proof?! I'm not trying to debunk religion here that would be stupid, but if you can't see the writers of the bible got their source material from earlier mythologies you are blind.

By all means have faith but don't let it turn to ignorance.

  • 1. You know nothing about me to make such a statement

    2. When writing a sentence containing the word "ignorant", make sure to use proper punctuation

    3. Like others have requested, PROVIDE EVIDENCE FOR YOUR ARGUMENTS. Without citing proper sources, anything you claim is nothing more than your opinion. You are attempting to surmise conclusions based not from facts. No accredited textual critic would ever take you seriously

    4. When someone challenges your opinions, you reply with insults. Grow up

  • You are so wrong there are similarities between the Greek myth and Christian. This is not a debatable matter it is fact and can be proven. And those guys you see on the shower are real expert. Just do yourself a favor either give in to the fact or ignore because you are so wrong. If you dont believe me pick up the bible and read Greek mythology then you see for yourself. Your problem is your brain is not capable of learning that why you fail.

  • @petezilla2k: Of course there similarities you twit, however, there is no linkage between the two and, therefore, not really all that Comparable. Oh and I've done both (Read the Bible and studied Greek Myth). And you resorting to such childish and petty insults prove you know little of what you're talking about. Put out evidence or shut up!

  • @Ridleysama yes there is you little shit head get your facts straight before someone like me prove you stupid. And your mother is a whore. XD Before you type away to make yourself to be more of an idiot comes back with evidences instead of your stupid opinion. Dont make me own you I do have video evidence to back up my claim. If you disagree without evidences just shows youre an ignorant little shit. Whats funny is your so butt hurt on a 5 months old comment. LOL

  • Ultimate battle between good and evil?

I'm pretty sure that Zeus was not a "good" god. In fact, it was the Titans who ruled over the Golden Age of Mankind.

  • lol so true

  • Oh what the fuck, History Channel?

  • If this stuff were real.....If zeus didnt trap kronos the titans wouldve kickd the gods asses

  • i watched this just last night

  • "i?

  • Typhon's Bane.

  • Zeus does NOT look like that. Every statue has portrayed him as a mature, but not old, man with long curly hair and a big beard. And they made such a huge effort to make it seem like the Greeks were leaning towards Monotheism by calling Zeus the Highest. They were not, and why does everyone think Monotheism is such an "advanceed" idea anyways? Judging by the natural world and human nature, Polytheism is far more advanced that Monotheism.

  • Exactly. Just as with the pictures of Jesus, most sculptures of Zeus follow the same "look". I too thought it was a poor choice of actor for the king of the Gods.

However, toward the end of the ancient Greek religion, there were hints of Zeus being viewed as encompassing all the powers of the other gods and especially anong Orphic followers:

"Zeus was first, Zeus was last, god of the bright bolt:

Zeus is the head, Zeus the middle, from Zeus are all things made . . ."

  • But that is a traditional belief, not a hint of Monotheism creeping in. Zeus, as King of the Gods, shared a bit of all the other gods powers, but was himself the god of thunder, lightening, and rain. He is not omnipotent, although he is the most powerful of the Olympians. Monotheism is a new and frankly stupid idea. There are only five Monotheistic religions, and there are hundreds of Polytheistic ones. Zeus is the most important Olympian, but he is not the only one.

  • Yes, but I'm just stating that there was a thread of thought near the end of the Greek pagan religion which began to look at other gods as being manifestations of Zeus. That Orphic hym also states that Zeus swallowed Phanes, a god which reprsents the universe and the source of all other gods, thereby all other gods are just manifestations of Zeus. Strict monotheism never developed in Greek pagan religion, however.

  • The Orphics were a relatively small group compared to the rest of Greece, however, and my whole point is that they made an idiotic attempt to make the Greeks appear more "advanced" by saying they might have been somewhat Monotheistic, which would have made them LESS advanced. If I need brain surgery, I want a brain surgeon to perform the surgery, not some overall physician. If I need rain for my crops, I want to pray to a rain god, not some cosmic deity with no specific job.

  • I understand. Sky gods by their very nature are distant. A Monotheistic god is even more distant.

However, what amazes me is that the ancient Greek philosophers were the first atheists, realizing that there need not be any gods. To me, I view that as being more advanced than any type of theism.

I am reminded of the phrase by Lucretius:

"Fear is the mother of all gods. Nature can do all things without their meddling."

  • i fucking missed it

  • The show was a let down. The same narrator as the MonsterQuest guy and some of the facts were wrong. The actors used were terrible choices to portray the Gods. By the way they kept reusing scenes it was obvious that they were trying to stretch it to keep costs down. I mean they showed the same scene of Zeus coming out of the shadows over and over again.

FYI: The word Typoon does NOT come from Typhon, despite what they said on the show.

    Poorly made series.

  • Sorry typo, "Typhoon' does not come from "Typhon".

Also, Typhon was created by Gaia to overthrow Zeus because Zeus had imprisoned the Titans in Tartarus. The Titans were Gaia's children and she grew angry at Zeus for how he treated her children.

Anyway, Typhon was pinned under the mountain by Zeus, not in Tartarus.

This is what I meant by some of the facts being wrong, but the most glaring error was the equation of Typhoon to Typhon, which is completely wrong.

  • "Other possible origins of the word include the Greek Typhon, the god of the winds, who personifies storm thunder winds. The Arabic, Persian, and Hindi terms tufan may have been borrowed from the Greek.[2] In old Turkic script the word Tufan is also recorded."

    -wikipedia

  • It's extremely doubtful that the term Typhon gave rise to Typhoon. There's no hint of Typhon being a storm spirit in Greek Myths. Instead, the implication is that Typhon is a spirit of fire. How could Zeus have defeated a storm spirit if "Typhoons" still occur?

The most logical etymology of the word Typhoon is from the Cantonese Daai Feng or "Great Wind".

Also, keep in mind that back in the day if words sounded alike they were believed to be related. We know this is not always the case.

  • Hi there! I am one of the Ill Willed F/X artists. This looks fantastic! I saw many stills but they did no justice. Can't wait to see the final cut. Hope to work with you and History Channel again !

  • it looks pretty cool! It's coming on tonight @ 10 pm EST.
