  • Yup our kids are becoming dumber. I work at a school and see it everyday but I think it has to do with our culture. Not religion but our love of things and pop stars.

  • Another thing is if you want kids to go to college LOWER THE FUCKING PRICE!

  • Harder classes doesn't mean crap. Any teacher can be a tough teacher but what matters is how they teach and engage with students. And theirs some curriculum that is completely useless to us and I don't understand why teachers teach it. When students ask why we learn a certain thing in a subject the teacher can never give a straight answer.

  • The purpose of encouraging americans to blame lower average math/science test scores for domestic job losses is to protect the reputations of the greedy disloyal corporations who employ foreigners (there are plenty of qualified domestic workers regardless the "average" test scores). High level math should only be forced on the segment of the student population that is naturally good at it, and that may want to use it later (just like high level drawing and other subjects).

  • The idea that we are losing jobs to india and china because we lack qualified workers here is false. The number of qualified American applicants for math/science/engineering/manufacturing jobs has exceeded the number of available positions for many years. Foreign labor is used because it is cheaper. That is also why we don't ship jobs to europe even though math/science proficiency is more widespread there than in the US too (it's not cheaper to send jobs to europe).

  • I remember participating in FIRST during my senior year .. changed my life. Now I'm a senior at Texas A&M University double majoring in Computer Engineering and Mathematics! :-)

  • This report is absolutely correct. In the UK, it's compulsory to take English, Maths, Science, History and Religious Education up to a certain age, normally around 15-16 years of age. This ensures that children gain the necessary tools they need to get even the most basic of jobs in the world. Without these core subjects, you will fail your course and will be expelled. You have no say in the matter. The US MUST employ this standardised testing or face a generation of stupid children.

  • i am german but 2 years ago i went to an american high school and of course took some ap classes.although i was two years younger than my classmates i was on top of my AP english class., although this is not my native language. I had no subject below 90 points. In Germany I once again took AP English and I am average. Sot the mistake.

  • @JCshorts I was educated in Asia and when I moved to the US I got to skip two grades, my dad was educated in America and when he moved to Asia they moved him back grades cause the students their were just far ahead....lol

  • @Fackalishus twas the same thing with my study partner in ap chemistry he was way ahead of all the others (he was from korea). while he did the calculating stuff i did the writing and evaluation part together we always got top scores and different awards

  • @JCshorts funny thing was in America I was like a super student but in Asia I was normal-below lmao Even when there was other people who visited us from other countries they always seemed to be smarter in general, I remember I was blown away cause this girl from Thailand who was in AP Calc with me got 100 percent through like the whole year...and she was like two years younger than me

  • @Fackalishus yep in germany i am average. over there i was labled being an over-achiever. Just because i actually studied for tests. Math is not my subject (Only got a B), I scored over 100 Points in AP English (I was awarded some extra points for projects and had straight As on usual tests) We did nothing but watching Disney movies. my brain starved over there!

  • And where do all these bright students go after high school? Well, with college prices rising and with private institutions costing $40k/year, nowhere, unless they want to start off their career with $160k in debt. The US government regulates where it shouldn't and doesn't regulate where it should. This is the result of subsidizing loans, enforcing a century old curriculum, and collectively stomping out creativity from the majority of the next generation. This is how the US will fall.

  • @1point61803 I graduated top 20 and had dreams of going to college and being the first in my family to have a college degree, however, due to my family being extremely poor I can't afford to go to college. Now I am just working a job and trying to take care of my only family member (77 year old father)... I just can't see myself going anywhere and it saddens me that I disappoint my family

  • Let me make this simple

    ASIANS > SMART & RICH

    MINORITIES > JEALOUS, LAZY, COMPLAINS

  • @KnightxxArrow You are the most ignorant, moronic racist I've seen today. Congratulations. Good luck with life.

  • @KnightxxArrow Yeah i couldn't be the fact the whites still teach their kids creationism, and were collage is a "liberal" conspiracy. Or the fact the math and science are not valued as a whole in America . btw African immigrants get more college degrees than any other group in America, including Asians.

  • @blueiguy1 wtf are you talking about? Africans do not get more degrees are other groups in America...lol please cite your source or something.

  • @tyseibert I love how idiots like you think you know what the fuck your talking about . The united states census along with the The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, and the Numerous other sources list this as true . Sorry if that makes white peoples ego tingle but its true .

  • @blueiguy1 lol do you know what the percentage of blacks in the U.S is? It's around 10% and you're trying to tell me there are more blacks in college than whites? You are smoking crack. Even if you are saying per capita I'm positive you're wrong. If this is true then I guess it's time to get rid of affirmative action which gives blacks an upper hand when applying to colleges. No you would never get rid of that now would you? lol

  • @tyseibert Not African Americans dummy African Immigrants. Affirmative Action benefits WHITE WOMEN more than anyone else (see title 9) I have always been against it for that reason. btw the population of blacks is around 15% (if not more if you include some Latin Americans ) Again if your idiot I caution you to please stay off the computer lol

  • @blueiguy1 lol you're so full of shit. Please provide me with a link to your source. If white people are so dumb then why is America and Europe the top two places on earth to live?

  • @tyseibert *sigh* you lazy bum. I just gave you three links about each issue. See title 9 ,and the others from the first comment. I never said whites were stupid you wanted a source I gave it to it you. All I gave was valid info about educational achievement.btw botswana (an AFRICAN country) has had the highest economic growth since the 70's have fun searching for that source on your own . lol good day sir!

  • Now California's gonna add in Gay/Lesbian curriculum! What the hell is wrong with America?

We need more emphasis on Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and Physics! Not this this Gay shit!

  • How do you go to a high school without AP classes. That is just weird. Talk about the system failing someone.

  • In the uk u have to take evrey class u have no choice if u dont go to school ur parents will be in big trouble so u have to take all classes and go to school

  • @UKbiebsfever The UK is currently in no better a state then USA. The number of students studying science is down 16% while the number of students studying media (useless) is up 14%. Mmmmm.....delicious.

  • Poor America. Our probably is always placing brawn over brains. We show movies with singing and dancing in school. People are made fun of for being nerds, and schools are basically places for socializing. Little girls want to be Kim Kardashian who can't act, sing, or dance. They don't want to be Ivanka Trump who happens to be smart and beautiful. Guys idolize sports figures. Americans want everything for nothing-to be rich by sports or acting or rapping.

  • @angelchild829

There you have it - a stupid society.

  • @angelchild829 acually your completely wrong. im from montgomery and i dont know anyone wanting to do that when they grow up. and bullying is around the world not just the usa. cnn is just trying to make it interesting

  • She just called Shanghai a country.... Even the news broadcasters are under educated.

  • whats wrong with america is that kids get made fun of for being a nerd who takes all honor classes and join school clubs instead of going to party and get wasted. in asian countries, you get complimented for being a nerd, cause it just means you're super smart.

  • those students look like such lame asses. I seriously thoguht there' be more gangster like me in this nation, but guess not.

  • SAME!! When that guy said he had no AP classes, I felt a moment of sympathy with him. I got into an honors math class, but when we moved my new high school didn't offer it. There are absolutely no AP classes at my new school, and only a handful of honors. Not really looking forward to the next 4 years :P

  • I know the school I went to didn't teach us anything close to the skills that would be required to fulfill the test at the end of this particular video. I myself would have nowhere to start (and I took the so called "honors" classes when I went to school).

  • It's good that this is happening. The problem isn't that the students are inherently dumb, the problem is that the school systems are inherently dumb. They need proper motivation and structure, and neither are being provided by the school and parents.

  • @jjtyler21 ....I agree with you. I was so annoyed when I graduated from high school and went to college and realized how little I knew about the world about me when I started taking all these college courses. I now seek knowledge myself

  • @yanfeb15 ...excuse me, world around me, not about me lol

  • Education in US is fucked up. Its way too easy.

  • @asanesana I totally agree with you.

  • @Wiiviewsowner thumbs up if you know what a vagina feels like

  • @Taylor486imU Mmm....the future of America. Your country is secure.

  • This entire documentary talks mostly about the robotics competition, and does not highlight the main issue of the crappy education system in the US very well. I suggest you watch "Stupid in America" instead of wasting your time on this one if you're looking for information about the main issues of education in the US.

  • the problem is right under your noses USA! religion! uber-conservatism! absolutism! objectivism!

  • Anyway to obtain a DVD copy of this?

  • "Waiting for Superman" is alot more informative of the education crisis that we are putting our children through. And this cnn special failed to show the importance of the issue.

  • While it is true that industrialized nations lead the U.S. in areas of math and science, it is not the full picture. In the United States, we educate everyone and try to place them on a academic track. Our "cream" in other countries is measured against the whole "crop" in the United States. Standardized testing has made it worse in the U.S. We factor in special education students and low income students who have parents with very low educational attainment.
