  • I'd love to know what motivated 37 people (10.02.2012) to Dislike this video. I'm guessing a combination of some accidentally hitting the Dislike button and a fair number who are jealous that they'll never achieve anything like this level of ability. Bravo, Jamie!

  • And its as simple as that!

  • best guitar solo of all time ever invented period. only Gilmour could think this up man.

  • very well !

  • 1:24 sweet jesus

  • BETTER, than David's? errrrrrrrrr....hat's off to this guy though, I will be getting ideas from him, or I guess David, for a while after this, as I just met him today.

  • i think you should've stretched the solo out a bit longer, this is one of those rock solos that deserves a little bit of a jam session in my opinion :)

  • Technically, this is great!. But, what every cover, even an awesome one like this, will always miss the SOUL that the original artist had in it. And that soul is how eventually you tell when the original artist has sold out and is in it for the money only. Like I said, this is great, the orignial better, but this is probably better than Pink's now would be... you now care more.

  • What 24 dickheads disliked this? Get a life you loosers won't be able achieve playing like this if you were dreaming!

  • need help getting this tone!

  • @geoff101001 High gain amp, humbucker bridge pickup with volume and tone set to full, thick guitar pick, low bass on amp also some subtle delay also maybe a little chorus.

  • a beautiful solo as well as a beautiful guitar! Music Man Silhouette?

  • 2 words: REPLAY BUTTON

  • amazing.

  • i wish i could like this more than 10 times and actually have it show up on the like bar...

  • A lot of mainstream guitarist are choosing the kramer striker custom fr 424 cm over fender and many other brands for the simple fact its Top professional quality and very easy to play. Its also very under priced for the quality it delivers and has.

  • @EPI6fingers Why are you trying to sell a guitar here?

  • Very nice job!

  • nice job man, like the way you give us up close good detail of how..

  • Whats the hairband for ? To stop buzzing?

  • duey101 is the best at gilmour on youtube afraid to say

  • are those the dimarzio bridge pickups?

  • You surely nail the tone and phrasing..splendid!

  • I think that gilmour does it way better ;) the vibratos are more precise and he has a more fluent style. in the origin version there are less staccato notes, than he's playing.

  • great!

  • where do they get those hair bands from i need one for mine.

  • When I finally know how to play an electric guitar (I don't have any experience.) This is the first song I am going to learn.

  • I gotta say, you guys are amazing! I bought the David Gilmour and Kirk Hammett DvDs and they are just awesome! If you want to learn a song, trust me, this is the place to do it :) Keep it up Licklibrary!

  • the man with fingers from a god!!!

  • Genius thats what I call this!

  • i was fucking blown away!

what a magic melody, is like coming straight from heaven...

  • I can play it better and I'm 14, haha no offense

  • @TaylerMeeks lololol good one! i actually laughed when i read this... no offense.

  • @TaylerMeeks I saw your vid. Nothing special. Just some harmonics.

  • Ops, missed note 0:36. kkkkk awesome anyway.

  • @BraianVeloso it's style, not missing notes

  • Can you name all the components used in these videos. I can see the blackstar speaker cabinet but what are the components above it?

    Thanks

  • @alcarcifi The gear they use here does not "Nail" the Gilmour Tone exactly- there's all kinds of gear that will get you this sound as long as you are playing a strat's single coil neck pickup into an overdrive into a tube amp while adding lots of chorus and a touch of delay.

For example, my Soldano Astroverb (the 18watt baby soldano) nails this tone with my strat and overdrive pedal and delay and some chorus. You don't need this blackstar HT5 and this rack echo to get Gilmour's tone. STRAT!

  • @StratMatt777 all it takes is the right amount of overdrive, fraction of a section delay, chorus, and some sustain compression. you just gotta ticker with your specific amp and pedals to get it near perfect.

even then though, pink floyd had a record studio to pre amp that sound

  • actually pretty good like for a cover of God ;>

  • how do i get this effect?

  • fantastic...

  • WOW!!!!!

  • *Dave Mustaine quote about how great Gilmour is* Thumbs up :D

  • @EOJrobolo dave mustaine = trash

  • I simply dont understand why people fight and argue over who is better and so on..to the point where it is so childish if you read some of these comments..

Guys we are all on this page because we like the music, guitars, solos! Let these do the talking and stop crying about who is better..we all have our opinion, facts dont change such that Pink Floyd (Gilmour) indeed wrote the song and lyrics) and not Jamie Humpries ! haha

    Let the music talk!!

  • The ending of whole video sounds the same as the ending of Brazzers lol

  • SO *PERFECT* I CAN'T BELIEVE IT... JUST LIKE THE RECORD... GREAT JOB!!!

  • this solo gives me chills down my back every time i hear it

  • Playing every guitar solo on the same gear is an awful thing

  • Very Very nice sound!

    awesome playing

  • damn these virtuosos annoy so much! WHY CANT I MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY AND PLAY IT SO WELL??!!

  • tempo ???

  • Nice plug for Blackstar amps. Not too subtle, huh?

  • Immaculate playing and perfect tone!

  • your dimarzio bridge pickup won't help you. you must have hands of gilmour:))

  • Cool, but I prefer the pulse version.

  • Anyone know what effects are used here? Chorus maybe?

  • ma copine, qui aime le rock me lance un défi dans 1 mois je dois savoir jouer cette musique comme un pro mais impossible quoi , mais je pense qu' avec cette vidéo je vais m'en sortir j'espère !!!

  • very nice

  • Hey Licklibrary! I just posted a video reponse to this cover of the solo! :) I just totally love your version and how you play it! Care to check mine out? :)

Thanks, and keep up the good work! :))

  • RESPECT!

  • what effects are used on the guitar, and would they work on an electric violin?

  • @JackyRowe a little distorion, a little reverb, chorus, phaser and maybe an EQ to achieve that nice bass sound.

i'm not sure how they would on a violin though. it must be badass to lay down this solo on violion

  • so emotional..

sounds like the guitar it's telling a history, talking or something like that..

    floyd4ever

  • fucking amazing, i gonna learn this now

  • The solo's good but kind of repetitive, nice job.

  • @KellerDude4 one of the best solos ever man...repetitive or not this shit stimulates my mind in some crazy ways...pink floyd is trippier than the best drugs..

  • @blazehand187 they did drugs when making it thats why

  • @blackstrat6897 gilmour never did drugs

  • @DanielVieiraGuitar He started doing coke after he split from his first wife.

  • @blazehand187 best solo to play drunk stoned or kinda sad man

  • 0 dislikes

  • since when did david gilmour get tattoos?

  • is that some chorus? it feels like when i play it something is missing a little bit.

  • nice amp.impressive rack!

  • WOW this is way better then mine by like MILES!!!

  • I just got this 2dvd 1cd set in the mail today and it is fantastic!

Jamie (and I hate to admit this) lays down the solos (dare I say this?) better than (forgive me Dave) Mr. Gilmour himself. Jamie, you DO the solo justice, mate :)

If you like Pink Floyd even just a tiny bit, ya gotta get this, it's totally worth it.

  • @00xenomorph00 ha ha! Jamie's in the office today, we'll show him this! be great if you can get a video up of yourself once you've learnt it!

  • @licklibrary will do!

  • @licklibrary mmm maybe a little easier to follow than Mr. Gilmour lol

  • @gtrprince1 original solo has modulation, then yes he's probably using chorus.

  • @00xenomorph00 I must very strongly disagree with you simply on principle. But Jamie is a nasty player, completely beast.

  • @00xenomorph00 Watch your blasphemous mouth. Just because Jamie can do a good cover doesn't make him better. If Jamie's that good I suppose he would have written this song? Which he didn't. David Gilmour did. Gilmour created a long list of beautiful solos. Technical skill is secondary to real creativity.

5 years of good practice can give you flawless technique, but only one person in the world wrote this solo: David Gilmour.

  • @Lockjaw95 It's a matter of opinion, in some people's opinion he sounds better doing the solo, others noone does it better than the original (Dave gilmour), there's no need to go down his throat about it.

  • @Lockjaw95 I agree!

  • @Lockjaw95 To tell you the truth I don't think you will need 5 years.

Just 1 year of non-stop passion and playing,

Lock yourself up in your room, and focus on techniques and FEEL.

Feeling this song gets you 90%, because technically, this is one of the easiest solos to play.

The thing that makes it hard is the feel.

  • @monkengregful quality makes up for quantity

  • @monkengregful I agree 100%! That's been my strategy for the past few months. I've been playing just over one year and 8 months, but when the mood of everything is just right, (today, for example, was perfect) it's really the passion that gives a performance its EPICness!

  • @Lockjaw95 That's stupid as shit.

  • @Lockjaw95 woah chill out

  • @Lockjaw95 Yep, Dave Gilmour wrote some of the most memorable, classiest solos in the history of rock. Ditto Jimmy Page too.

  • @Lockjaw95 Just because someone wrote a solo doesn't mean that their performance of it is the best by default.

  • @Lockjaw95 So true, and just to add to that, David's solo sounds better then this one ^^. This is the best cover I've ever heard though (even better then that fool who played it at the roger water performance of the wall 'o.O)

  • @PacisVictus

The 'Fool' I think you are referring to is the amazing Dave Kilminster and you wouldt be calling him that if youd actually gone to the shows. He is a phenomenal guitar player and purely as an instrumentalist is in a completely different league to Gilmour. I thought Kilminster did brilliantly and if you look at the train wreck that Gilmour made of his Comfortably Numb solo at the O2, it sprobably a good job that Floyd will not play together again.

  • @hulldanfan Agreed. Gilmour's solo at O2 was embarassing. Totally phoned it in.

  • @rogpoll @hulldanfan Have second that also. His vocal was really good, but he mangled the solo, using that weird tone he used on the 2006 tour, which I never really liked.

  • @00xenomorph00

I´m sorry but I think you´re wrong!! Jamie does a great solo and I really like his playing and the tutorials,

but to say that it´s better then Davids solo, I rREALLY don´t think so.

Davids tone and feel is great and world class!

  • @00xenomorph00

Well i have to agree that Jamie is damn good! BUT you are a effing retard if you think for a moment that he better than Dave Gilmour.

  • @00xenomorph00 WTF are you talking about, listen to Comfortably Numb PULSE

  • @00xenomorph00 no1 can do it better than gilmour how dare you even say it gilmour plays it with so much feeling you tell by the way he plays the guitar and the face expressions that he makes his not shy even he knows he does weird faces!

  • @00xenomorph00 How can you say that!?!? Nobody can ever play any of Gilmour's music better than the man himself. Gilmour attacks his guitar with every ounce of passion he has and quite frankly, I have not seen anyone else replicate this. I have heard and seen many people cover his material but not one has brought me to tears. Gilmour can break me down like a sledge hammer. I'm not doubting Jamie's talent or anybody else at that but David Gilmour is the only person fit for playing his stuff.

  • @xPORTERLOOx you are a fan of david gilmour and so your views are biased towards him. moreover its his song, so people just don't accept even if someone plays the solo as good as david. i am not criticizing you but its human nature

  • @00xenomorph00 how could say that, this guy may have tons of technic, but its clear he does not enjoy pink floyd, he's lacking the spirit, and the thrill of playing this!

  • @00xenomorph00 What the fuck are you saying man, Jamie's covers are good and very close to note for note, but he still can't top Gilmour.

  • @00xenomorph00 loool dude are you serious? omfg

  • @00xenomorph00 Blasphemy

  • This solo is on standard tuning and if u play it without distortion it will sound sloppy.

  • lol racist amp ' Blacksta' lol

  • btw....can we play the same without distort?

  • what's the tuning for this solo?

  • @purpleeagledude522

    normal tuning: E A D G B E, ---- scale pentatonic of B minor

  • beatiful tone

  • WOW

  • Is this the same clip that comes in ''Guitar solos volume 2'' ?

  • @PARRA6666 material is not duplicated within the different dvds. The 'Learn to Play Dave Gilmour The Solos' looks purely at the solos from different songs breaking each one down. Which is why you'll find alot of different performances of the different parts of the solos on here.

  • great job, Jamie. Someday I want you to teach the PULSE version :)

  • what type distortion are you using? Awesome playing!

  • The tone is the fucking awesome man.

  • nice sounds just like it!

  • This is so cool...i can play the solo note for note but I don't have the effects to make it sound really cool like this

  • Yeah well you really need good vibrato and delay :)

  • AWESOME!
