About Luigi being dumb and buying another skeleton key: the reason Luigi buys all the skeleton keys is because that is Luigi's favorite item in the game. Characters tend to buy the item that is their favorite most of the time if it is there.

Honestly, I just choose who to steal the coins from and just switch the computer player to player one then I don't shoo Boo away I just let him steal the coins and when it's over I switch back to Yoshi
