  • Man its so fricking hard to find this for windows. Dos Box, every recommended site. I even still have the original Heroes quest box and the floppy disks I used on my tandy, but alas I have no floppy drive lol. Cruel fate, I spit in ur face with an anchient graphics cards WRATH! Many thx for the video speed run lol Pe@ce

  • Looks like an Elder Scrolls Game

  • Ah the good ol days.

  • Once you have lockpicks, type in "pick nose" for extra fun! I played this game for hours and hours back in 1989.

  • I remember playing this in the early 90's, I had a lot of funny playing this with my brother. Crazy to see the walk through. Great video!!

  • you actually HAD TO TYPE IN what you want to do with the npc's? how cool is that!

  • @Nhordmyr Yes it was called a typing parser. It added difficulty to the game. Because you had to READ and follow up on what you thought was important. All the later point and click in my opinion were to easy. (maybe because i was a few years older also but what the hell:P) Anyway... typing parser for the win! and throw away your to expensive graphics card and start playing Mud's :p

  • Great upload, good choice of song to start the video with and then break into... cat inn music... with surprisingly good food, and then later falling onto the ice mix.. nice work :-)

  • lol@ climb gate sequence.. sierra games were really like that

  • 0:14 hold on second, what is the music ?

  • 0:55 Hero quest 1 techno edition ?

  • are you using DOSBOX ? :)

  • So this is what it's like to play Hero's Quest 1 in the middle of a trance party, surrounded by dozens of smelly, oily guidos from New Jersey with waxed chests, eyebrows, and fake tans who are all dancing extremely close together and with absolutely no women in sight?

  • NOSTALGIAD HARD

  • This game is so awesome. I haven't seen this in 20 years. I beat this and all the other ones, including all the Leisure Suit Larrys and King Quests games. Oh, and Iceman... which was a bitch. But these games were particularly fun back in the day because they made you actually think in an interactive way.

  • who the fuck would take a video of this

  • another thing I loved about the original game 1--was Otto the goon with the sheriff.

when he plays with the Yo-yo watch his facial expression and his fingers --so excited and happy--of course in the re-make --Otto did tricks with his yo-yo. it landed on Heros head. The graphics were so much richer--but you had the conversation tree--in the original --I searched for subjects -ASK ERASMUS ABOUT WIT. This is the Blessed Realm, never want to leave it again.

  • Erana's Peace the flowers "smell like laughter"

Centaur farmer Spore Spitting Spirea "tis truly a sight to behold" he says he can grown enough to feed the valley on his little farm. Shameen says Katta know only low magic, a good meal, a warm inn (I think). Erasmus says you have to finish your quest here before you can go to Shapier At the valley entrance click on a branch -it looks like a flying witch--also notes the avalanche blocking the exit.

    i REALLY NEED ERASMUS'S JOKES-I MISS IT.

  • Not too shabby at all. I use to play music in game due to its lack there of . So this is pretty epic. RAVE IN ANCHIENT DAYS!!!! *dance dance dance dance* <(^o^)^

  • this was a great game but the music sucks!!!

Spent hours with climbing trees up and down to improve

    skills..haha!!!

  • god, seriously. hours of my life.

  • I used to play this on my Amiga 500. Pretend to be sick so I could stay hame from school and play Quest for glory all day.

  • cool soundtrack

  • Anyone here know where or how I can play this?

  • @sonicfanatic4949 yeah get dosbox and then go download the game from a torrent site or sites like megaupload. i can't give you the game since that's illegal...and while i don't agree that it should be illegal since it's 20+ years old, i think it's better if you just search for it yourself. it's not hard to find since it was a very popular game.

  • @sonicfanatic4949 Might be a little late but try

    abandonia com website

  • Im so glad this Is up here! I spent so many hours as a kid playing this. Memory lane! I remember i used to be able to tell when an enemy was approaching by my loud ass hard drive spooling up, Gave me just enough time to type run haha.

  • @tattoobeetle i used to type 'look at monster' the second i entered each area and if it responded with something like "it's a program bug!" then I knew I was safe...but otherwise it would say something like, "a cheetah, a cheetah!" or whatever monster it was and I would know it's time to RUN.

  • im so glad this is on here! Brings back so many memories! the dragons breath at the bar was my favorite part to bad you didnt hit the bar! I remember I could tell when an enemy was approaching by the sound of the hard drive clicking on my old ass Ibm.. those were the days!

    Thanks for the upload Aro!

  • This game ROCKS. I remember playing on my AT&T with dual Floppies! LOL... HQ 1 Kicks Ass, even in monochrome!

  • this was one of the first pc games i owned. solid

  • lol i still remember the code Razzle Dazzle Root Beer

  • Thanks for uploading this. Lots of my childhood memories rests with this game and now it has been awokened. :-)

Any idea where to get it? I would really appreciate your help.

  • I remember a long time ago playing this game and got to a level where I met the Queen(?) - if you were rude to her she would not let you in and I believe this was a critical part of the game ... do you know how to get around this (without reloading last saved game) ?

  • @michael7a11 No queen, but there is the Kings missing daughter who isenchanted and is the brigand leader, you have to use dispel potion on her to transform her. There is also Baba Yaha the hag who lives in the chicken hut. She turns you into a frog, you have to get mandrake from the graveyard for her, and you later get rid of her with the mirror you get from the Brigand Leaders Lair.

She tries to turn you into a frog again but the Use Mirror makes the spell rebound.

  • @michael7a11 oh there is a jester who is sort of guarding Elsa the brigand leader, and he is a joker, view the video again and see how he resolves it. Type -talk about elsa-and then you have to get thru his trick room. That might be what you were thinking of.

  • @michael7a11 OH no! THEN AGAIN, rude or wrong answers to questions? Could be Erasmus the wizard and the Gargoyle at his castle. You have to answer the gargoyles questions -3 of them--and also if you are rude to erasmus, he can zap you out of his castle. Don't be rude to Erasmus or Fenrus -they are there to give you some laughs and help you :)

  • @nasty11 you could try searching a torrent site for it or google for megauploads quest for glory 1. i think there used to be a torrent on isohunt.com called something like "dos collection" which was broken up into a few parts...the part that covered "H" had hero's quest and the part that covered "Q" had quest for glory. Just get the files then install dosbox and have fun. ;P

  • what's up with the techno music?

  • I really liked this game. Hands down. Best in the serie.

  • am serious

  • wtf is that game? looks like a "FAKE COPY OF RS" to me

  • lol r u serious?

that's pretty funny whether or not you're serious.

  • @Aro2220 I think he is serious.

  • @jarhead097 this was made in the 80s its a classic its fun and isnt online but hard and long dont laugh

  • @jarhead097 O_O...this came out like 20 years before rs (1980...something)...if anything rs is a fake copy of this XD

  • @jarhead097 is the greatest game of all time. back on the 386dx cpu days.

  • Hey whats this song, I like it

  • I have a version of Hero's quest 1 for DOS, and it appears to be exactly the same as the version you are playing except mine has much nicer graphics, and you don't have to type out your actions... instead there is a tool bar at the top of the screen for performing actions. Is my DOS version just a re-release, or is it a remake?

  • There was a re-release but the original game came out for both DOS and Mac. The second game was a Mac only game so when they released the collector's edition with 1 to 4. QFG 2 was text based unlike the 1,2, and 3 on the disk.

  • I think it's a remake and would like for you to tell me where you got it so i can download it

  • i'm playing the actual release which my parents bought in the early 90's. I wish i still had the box so I could tell you the details.

  • I'm also playing the 1989 version.

    It's free to download.

I've been walking around the cemetery so i could get that plant at midnight and now Baba Yaga can't turn me into a frog!

    Hooray!!

  • @roskildahphreak look for any old gamer that play oldschool rpgs i got mine form my dad about 5 years ago still havent finished it

  • @Thill029 i type my actions in but its different from the bar on top mine just says like save game inventory and all the shortcuts for it like ctrl a

  • Okay, now THAT sir is brilliant, I always practiced climbing on the tree by the healer, and ended up spending 10 minutes doing what you did in about 2 seconds.

  • Loved this game a true testiment to the genius of sierra. Excellent music and game play and the graphics were what you expected for the time.

  • The game was released in March 1989 Other games at the time: 1990 - Super Mario Bros. 3 1990 - King's Quest V 1987 - Maniac Mansion 1992 - Dune 2 1990 - Monkey Island 1 1989 - Mechwarrior 1 1989 - Space Quest 3 1990 - Quest for Glory 2 1990 - Mega Man 3 1993 - X-Wing (Lucas Arts) To be honest with you guys...as far as PC games went Sierra owned that market prior to 1993 with a few exceptions all from different companies, not the same 1 super company.
  • oh ok g8 vid

  • excuse me, the original "hero's quest" (not quest for glory 1), have "high speed hero" option. but i just got the "hero's quest" version without the "high speed hero". how about yours? do you have the "high speed hero" version?

  • yeah i had high speed version in this one.

and i know what you mean. i spent YEARS trying to find the 'high speed version' of "Hero's Quest".

There are actually 2 or 3 revisions of Hero's Quest 1 before it turned into Quest for Glory 1 (and there are a couple revisions of THAT, too)

Only one of the HQ's had high speed hero. it just so happened that was the one my cousin owned and so that's the one I grew up playing.

  • blech who needs good graphics right?

    go Hero Quest and zork!

  • Haha, well gz to you, you're included in Spoony's new Final Fantasy 8 video XD

  • What version was this again? cause my version looks extremly different

  • This is the original Hero's Quest version NOT the version titled "Quest for Glory"

it should look almost identicle to the ega version of quest for glory 1 to all but the trained eye.

i am running the game in dosbox under windows xp. if you do the same you will see the same thing.

  • man, I didn't even know you could move the picture.

  • that's what was so great about this series...you could play it 100 times and find something new each time.

qfg4 was probably the best for that out of the whole series. there were SO many secrets in that game...

unfortunately only qfg1 was close to bug free.

qfg2 crashed if you hunted during the night against jackals sometimes...

qfg3 had a lot of memory problems (which mattered more back in the day)

and qfg4 was bug city. i still have trouble crashing in the swamp.

  • I still have the old school version of this game, circa 1989 (So You Want To Be A Hero). I think this is updated version, took me a long azz time to end the game. Loads of boobie traps in the last couple of stages.

  • this is the 1989 version

  • This was an awesome game and the first of the rpg (or hybrid) genre that I ever played.

I had the original version (Hero's Quest) also. Thanks for posting!

  • This is cool. I also had the original version of this game when it was known as "Hero's Quest." My PC at the time only had CGA graphics, if you can believe that. Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory 1 and King's Quest 4 are my two favorite PC games of all time. I grew up with games like those. Today's newer games may have better graphics, sound, etc., but I will always love these older games.

  • no way ... roland midi was the best. It didn't do voices, but music knocked your socks off.

  • i half agree with you. at the time roland midi was INSANE to hear. It sounded SO awesome...

but TODAY it sounds like crap (come on...midi? who listens to midis anymore lol!!) and my parents got me a computer as a kid not a computer with a roland midi (those things were PRICEY)...so the 'proper' way for this to sound to ME is soundblaster :P

  • Anyone know where I can get a version of this game that will still run under vista?

  • Use DOSBOX and you'll be able to get the original to run.

  • You are an absolute legend for putting these video's up. I loved this game!

  • this is not Heros quest Sound i have dis game :)

  • ya i added some music to this version...the rest of the ones i upload won't have extra sounds added in.

btw...i'm using ADLIB because this is how I played it (and I think it sounds better than roland midi)

  • this is not Heros quest Sound i have dis game :)

  • wheres part 2?

so much memories, i had it on 10 floppy diskettes lol

that part where you tried to climb the tree, i think you have to throw rocks at the nest if i remember correctly

  • I grew up with this version. (This is "Hero's Quest" not "Quest for Glory")

And, I can type 120wpm and I thank this game, and other Sierra games at the time for that.

If you didn't grow up with this game, play VGA since it's actually pretty frustrating when you're trying to buy a 'healing potion' and you keep typing 'buy heal potion' which results in FAIL.

I'll try to post the rest of these soon.

  • QFG VGA is better..right?

  • I like this version better. This is what I played over and over and over again when I was a kid.

  • Me, too. I enjoyed all the typing. The sierra games are actually why I can type fast now. lol.

  • Same. I type over 100wpm and it's all because of Sierra.
