Geez I am sure Roberts wouldn't have minded this..I know I wouldn't. Even if I was Chief Justice and messed up the oath, I would kind of expect myself to get joked around with over it, and would make sure to memorize it next time. Biden is not the most prim and proper person, but he has been on the Senate Foreign Relations committee for a hell of a long time and I would want him in my corner.

Biden joke was funny, but, I understand why Obama did not get in on joke. If you're the President, you need to be on good terms with the Chief Justice, especially when it's a well known fact Obama was against Roberts appointment as CJ.

PS: To all those asserting Joe Biden was being arrogant as in '"I have to do this again"? That isn't it at all.
He was simply surprised and a little confused as to what was going on, and asked normally (because he wasn't sure) if he was doing an oath for the second time. It had nothing to do with acting like he 'couldn't be bothered'. People are misinterpreting him apparently.
Sounded pretty normal to me-he was uncertain and asking for direction.

He didn't do anything wrong, it was funny and not a bad joke at all. Obama even later laughed and joked himself, obviously recognizing the climate of informality.
I don't see any problem with Joe Biden making a humorous remark. At least he shows he is a human who makes mistakes, and has a sense of humor.

Both John Quincy Adams AND Franklin Pierce were sworn into president without a bible. Herbert Hoover's oath was messed up by Chief Justice Taft in 1929. All three of the men were definitely president...
