If you disturb a European honey bee's nest you'll get a few stings, make a hasty retreat, and usually be fine. Many European bee keepers don't even use gloves. If you disturb an Africanized, killer, bee a few will sting you, releasing pheromones. The other 1000+ will then swarm out and attack untill you're dead or chase you for more than a mile before giving up.

It takes thousands of stings to kill an adult human. Killer bees easily accomplish that.

@Zappyguy111 The problem is mainly with people accidentally disturbing hives and getting surprised. The groups going in to remove the nests don't tend to have problems. At least I don't think so. I know of beekeepers who keep Africanized "killer" bees and seem to do fine.
