Agony and Irony was a horrible album, you have no idea what you're talking about. Alkaline Trio's first four albums were their best, Good Mourning wasn't bad, but from Crimson on out it was all down hill. This song, fortunately, is reminiscent of their older stuff, so I give it a pass.

I can hear the generic..ness that you speak of but personally this song has really grown on me. But that seems to happen a lot, with the exception of most of agony and irony (disliked) i do find it takes time to appreciate and they're never guna sound like that did 10 years ago. I read on the internet a few weeks back that Matt said he wanted to go back to their punk rock roots. When I heard this song, I wasn't really impressed. It sounds quite generic. The thing that pisses me off about this is that A3 are much more talented than this. I quite like the music and the chorus, but the lyrics and the verses are really simplistic. I'm not saying it's a terrible song, I think it's decent, but nowhere near as good as their older work.
Success has a lot more luck involved then talent. Some of the most talented people on earth will never make the big time just because of circumstances. Not many people have a shot to work their way up from the bottom. If you choose blindness to this fact at least recognize these people have full rights to scrutanize the band. You'll never see the writing of many a truly talented musician.

I agree. Their going downhill for sure. This is the worst album to date. And Agony & Irony is the second worst. They need to come out with albums like Crimson. Great stuff... Oh well.

I agree with narlycharley completely. Crimson was the first album I heard, and it was amazing. Out of all their music, Crimson was one of the best.

I was a big fan of the older Alkaline Trio stuff, and I realize that this album is an attempt to return to their "roots," but gawd. Those lyrics. Want good Alkaline Trio? Listen to Goddamnit. The problem is that these guys are too old to still be singing about heartache and heroine. We get it.

Totally agreed. They're trying to be all punky again, and that's fine, but I think they need to...move on. That, or make these lyrics less stereotypical. I don't like many songs off their new album =(

I can hear the generic..ness that you speak of but personally this song has really grown on me. But that seems to happen a lot, with the exception of most of agony and irony (disliked) i do find it takes time to appreciate and they're never guna sound like that did 10 years ago. But thats just me. From here to infirmary ftw!

I read on the internet a few weeks back that Matt said he wanted to go back to their punk rock roots. When I heard this song, I wasn't really impressed. It sounds quite generic. The thing that pisses me off about this is that A3 are much more talented than this. I quite like the music and the chorus, but the lyrics and the verses are really simplistic. I'm not saying it's a terrible song, I think it's decent, but nowhere near as good as their older work.

Success has a lot more luck involved then talent. Some of the most talented people on earth will never make the big time just because of circumstances. Not many people have a shot to work their way up from the bottom. If you choose blindness to this fact at least recognize these people have full rights to scrutanize the band. You'll never see the writing of many a truly talented musician.

I am also a Johnny Depp fan but think that the new Charlie & The Chocolate Factory was trash and that Depp wasted his talent in that role. Same scenario here, chump. I love 95% of the bands work. In my opinion this is not the product of a band in flux but a record put out in haste with a bunch of AWFULLY shallow lyrics for money. Nope. I DON'T respect that. Have you saw the prices of de record, new bandmerchandise and stuff? I mean, 13dollars for a CD+DVD? That's ridiculous.
BTW, if you know the band a little bit, you would know that they don't make music for money. I met these guys last year in Brussels, and they were really cool to talk to, no arrogance at all! Believe me, they don't want to make money in a fast way.

I understand what you mean....BUT...and this is fact: Agony & Irony was released July 1st, 2008 and reached #13 on the Billboard music charts. That is against every superstar in the WORLD. I'm talking Springsteen, to The Stones to Lil Wayne to Gay Nickelback. 13 is HUGE, friend. HUGE! Here we are a SHORT 17 months later and somewhere in between there were giant tours, writing a record and recording it? I respect your opinion, but its a business. They're in it for money now, man. MY opinion.

its not them just making a record for the money- its them making a record because they want to and making money off it. do you get the difference? they could be broke and they'd keep writing music but it just so happens that theyre not. it IS their living you know. Theres a huge difference between selling yourself and selling out.
