Look @ Tracy's reaction 3:33 when the 2nd Black Lady starts singin..lol! Classic.. I loved this show n yes this was my favorite skit too!! Besides the simpsons...
I didn't really expect to find this on YouTube, but I was thinking today I hadn't seen it since, I dunno, 1985 ... and here it was! Thank you very much.
I'm glad to see that I am not the only person who loved and remembered this skit. Haven't seen it in 20 or so years, but it is still just as good today as it was when it first aired. Thanks for posting this gem!
I was lucky enough to see this skit live in LA. I brought my Mom and she still talks about it. Tracey has more talent in her little finger than most of today's mega "stars" ever will. RESPECT to everyone involved!
I also saw this when it originally aired. I can't hear this song without thinking of this skit. As others have already said, thank you for posting this!
I'm in that skit (the guy with the jean jacket) as a member of The Tokens (who had the hit The Lion Sleeps Tonight). A couple of interesting facts about this skit. That's Sly Stone's sister Rose on the bench. Paula Abdul choreographed it. And James Brooks (Director of Taxi) directed it. If you want to see an autographed photo by the cast to me, go to my Facebook (Dennis Marcellino) "My Photos" section.
@Light3740 Mr. light/Dennis, YOU, like Tracey and the other contributors, are so awesome. I loved this sketch and it had me roaring when I first saw it. Thank you for this, and for the trivia!
Loved this skit. I wish someone could find the skit where Julie Kavner and Joe Malone play cops who pull Tracy and give her a sobriety test, which ends up being Joe and Tracy dancing.
Been looking for this video for about 20 years too. I accidentally recorder it on VHS when it originally aired and thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. Whenever I felt bad or sad or depressed I would watch this and I couldn't help but feel happy. Over time the tape wore out and became unviewable and I spent years until now looking for this. Even after all these years, I can't help but smile and feel happy when I watch it. It's like a long lost friend. Thanks so much for the post!
Yes, THANK YOU for posting this. This was one of my FAVORITE skits from "The Tracey Ullman Show." Ooh! And I see another fave: Francescas First Job. Tracey is one talented, funny lady.
I, too, have been looking for this for what seems like forever. It was my favorite skit from that show. Sure do miss her show. Thanks for publishing it!!
Besides the Simpsons, this was my most favorite skech ever done on The Trachy Ullman Show, and that show was had a lot of great stuff. I haven't seen it in years but always remembered the bus stop with the city of strangers. It was great to see it again. Thanks
This sketch first aired on the Fox network October 11, 1987. In addition to Tracey's regulars, Julie Kavner and Dan Castellaneta, the featured 'strangers' are members of The Tokens, known for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight": Phil Margo and Mitch Margo (both original members), Norman Bergen, and Dennis Marcellino; also Rose Banks of Sly & The Family Stone and Alfie Silas. Written by Marc Flanagan, directed by Sam Simon, now known for The Simpsons.

Always wanted to see more sketch comedy like this on TV. When will it come
back? Skits like this are great. This is my
favorite.

Yes, you are correct. Paula Abdul choreographed the show including this sketch. She choreographed a Janet Jackson video around the same time.

I've always loved this! (Didn't Paula Abdul choregraph this? I know she worked with Tracey alot)
