I have loved this movie since I bought a VHS Cassette back in the 1980s-sight unseen. I had bought it for Spencer Tracy's Academy Award winning Best Actor performance, however, I was equally impressed by Freddie's performance which made the movie experience better.
i remeber when i saw the movie captains courageous in the 4th grade it was a very good movie at the end everyone cried because it was sad this is a excellent movie
Oh, thank you! Perfect music for this tribute. My favorite performances from Spencer and Freddie, one of my favorite movies as well. I'm always tempted to think of Freddie all grown up whenever I see BP ex-ceo Tony Hayward. Saw him today and got lonesome for watching Freddie, so Youtubed his name and found my way here. Great job and thanks again. xoxo
Thank you hon , Im very glad you like it! No wonder is your favorite a truly extraordinary Film in more then one aspect ,They were perfect working together <3
This film is one of my most favorite...it simply makes me melt away every time I see certain scenes. Love Freddie Bartholomew! I'm even teary as I write this . . .
thank you for posting this immortal classic. Bless you.
I always make fun at my wife when she cries during sad movies. Well guess what, Mr. Macho man has to either watch this alone or go run and hide if my wife is at home watching it or I won't be able to make fun of her any more.
Oh !Have to said is very sweet what you to said... hope you don't make fun of her anymore, thats one of the things that makes people like me hidde when a sad movie is on ,Im a women and Im ashame of crying infront of people, so I can relate.
@drewsarichfangirl Please don't be ashamed to cry at a sad movie, it's such a feminine thing to do. Today women have forgotten how to be feminine, they think it's a sign of weakness I guess. They're so wrong. The boys don't know how to treat you. If they try to treat like a woman the girls think they're looking down on them. So don't be ashamed to act like a woman.
Thank you for saing this, you are sweet , it means a lot to me, I do think Im afraid to cry becouse it means you are weak ,silly and corny all thouse kind of things , but is nothing wrong with acting feminine as you said , I shouldn't worry about what others going to think of me if I do cry =)
@drewsarichfangirl, I'll second what the other fellow said about not being afraid to be what you are, feminine. And, hey, if it makes you feel any better, this movie makes tears run down my face as well, and I'm a guy. If this movie doesn't touch you, there's something wrong with you.
Also, you're right about Freddie Bartholomew. He was a singular child actor. It's just sad that his mother wronged him the way she did.
Thank you hon, that's very nice of you , Im really working on it , sometimes you can't help crying , I do agree with you if this movie doesn't touch some way , something is wrong with you , maybe you don't have to cry by force but defenetly have to move you.
I remember the first time I read about his parents I couldn't beleive it , Its a very sad event indeed .
@logancody05 haha, you ain't alone. I think this movie hits a soft spot with men, cause it's about a father/son relationship. Even if it's a surrogate figure, it's a father-figure and that rings with us. Not saying at all that it doesn't apply to the ladies, but We don't get too many movies like that, so when it hits it hits hard.
This movie was an absolute classic and I wish more people today would watch this and other movies from that era. Spencer Tracy was incredible as Manuel and this had the saddest ending to any movie I ever saw. Perfect song that you picked.
This is an awesome movie of courage and strength... ultimately we are human and what makes us a true human being is not money or power, but courage, and compassion, and our understanding of the human condition. This movie is a work of art that clearly reflects that. Thanks for posting.
Your welcome! Its my pleasure , Agrees with you ...some of thouse values you mention could really come on handy in times like this , were sometimes would seem they are lost or just not important anymore, This movie defenetly is a work of art.
I was a ten yr. old boy when I first saw this film and it remained my favorite movie for years. I think every young boy should watch it to show him a sense of value and also that movies don't need computerized graphics or even color to be great. Well done!
Thank you , glad you think so , I agree with you ,You don't need any of thouse things to make it great , not that I have anything against computerized graphics but I do prefer a movie done so beautifuly with a great message any day that special effects one.
This is a beautiful tribute. I've always loved Freddie's work. He's without doubt, my favorite child actor. Talented, smart and super cute. I thought he was the actor the really deserved the oscar for Captain's Couragous. It's great to see more of his fans out there. Very well done.
I met a girl many years ago and fell in love with her and her mom and dad her dads name was Manuel ( yes portuguese) and the first time we met at a BBQ with fish on the grill i loved the fish he looked over and called me pixie pixie (fishy fishy)we were like son and father soon after. One sunday afternoon talk having beers we seen this movie come on He passed away last week thats why I am here watching this so thank you for posting it
At first I was like, how could you mix a modern song with a movie so sacredly awesome, but then as I watched it really was an ok match. Nice job sequencing the different shots in the movie. Interesting how moving this movie is with very little emotional music in it besides the little fish song and Rock of ages. Its not orchestrated like free willy or Titanic in which the music almost makes the entire movie. This movie is Fantastic and will be around for many years to come.
The book and movie is a tale of growning up, friendship and learning to be man and being an adult.
Life is about trails and how you face up to them. There's right answer to life's questions, its about how to live it; knowing it hurts, but that's the truth of it.
beautiful film
