  • I think ill just wear purple and gold

  • 1 pause at 0:20 if they where 'digitally swapped' why is it that if you look at the the clothes on the right leg of the guy on the right, the leg is bigger on the bottom pic than on the top

2 those referees evidently dont know too much if they cant see who scored the points in each

  • @TENNSUMITSUMA 1 the animations arent in perfect sync, so if you pause it, the frames will be off by a fraction of a second. its still the same animation.

2 the point is that people generally and instinctively pay more attention to the fighter in red

  • @Treijim

general or not, it wasnt done right

  • @TENNSUMITSUMA what is the "right" way to do it?

  • @Treijim

the 'right' way to do it is to watch what your fuckin doing

  • @TENNSUMITSUMA easier said than done im afraid. "watching" involves many factors, conscious, unconscious, and subconscious. things like paying attention to what colours things are is completely normal and natural. its never as simple as just doing something. all the influences need to be considered :)

  • So what are they gonna do? Take away all the Olympic medals?

  • ive competed in wtf taekwondo all my life and was always more confident of scoring when i wore a red protector

  • This is pretty biased when you consider the fact that the scoring devices in the judges hands also play a factor. Most right handed people are more likely to press the button in their right hand then the left and vice versa.

  • @iamyoyoyodude45 what does that have to do with colors?

  • @tylowylo12321 ie. a right handed person holding the red button in his right hand is more likely to press the red button (for the person wearing a red hogu) whereas a left handed person holding the blue button is more likely to press the blue button. With only this in mind, a person wearing blue could still have an advantage.

  • @tylowylo12321 * left handed person holding blue button in left hand

  • wear black

  • Slightly off topic, but this video is why I find olympic martial arts frustrating to watch: there is little resemblance to real fighting. They're right up in each other's faces and they're not even throwing punches. No points in it, I guess.

  • The YouTube Logo lol

  • bullshit ive worn blue every tournament ive gone to and havent lost a fight to date

  • Jinxed it... lol

  • Are your fights judged?

  • mhm

  • Yes, one outlying example disproves this well-evidenced hypothesis. I'm glad you're looking out for all of us.

  • its funny though because as you'll notice this video shows absolutely no proof that red is superior because the guy on the left sucks and scores absolutely no points either way.

  • @T00stoopid And yet the judges scored him as the winner when he was wearing red. How does that not show superiority?

  • damn no wonder i lost that karate fight Fuck

  • nice

  • shit

  • Interesting...I'm going to start wearing red for my wushu tournaments now. =P

  • good to know!

  • If you can get these advantages just by wearing red, what affect does skin color have on people's subconcious interpretations of people's behavior?

  • this is an interesting question! I would love to hear the answer.

  • psychological cheating!! Woohoo!

  • Make red illegal!

  • I always chose the red team in TF2

  • holy crap...ur right....i notice we would always win in capture the flag whenever were the red team!

  • DA RED ONES GO FASTA!!

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

  • I see the color black as more of an intimidation then red

  • shut up!

  • i meant the fucking color black jesus fucking christ.. im not racist..

  • OK sorry LOL its so many on youtube you never know but I guess I was mad when I posted that and I'm sorry!

  • lol =)

  • Presidential candidates always wear red neck ties. I always vote for the one with the red necktie, even if it is a baboon monkey. Better yet, if it is a red-assed baboon monkey in heat.

  • I guess that's why bush jr was in office for two terms...red is the republican color..unfortunately!

  • red asses baboon monkeys have great foreign policies.

  • ahhahahhah :D

  • So THATS how Bush got elected!

  • no wonder judges didnt award more points to one of our boxers in the olympics, bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Our karate school colors are red! yay lol, and we have one quite a few competitions... but i'm pretty sure skill was all of it:P Upon watching the videos i actually believed the blue fighter should have more points... maybe it's genetic or something.

  • should be "wone quite a few competitions" not "one"

  • Actually, it should be WON not wone, retard.

  • god damn it i can't type... *won*

  • it is said red cars have more accidents...

  • and where do you get your facts?

  • red cars have less accidents

    not more

  • I was told that the person more likely to buy a red car (hotshot you guys) is more likely to speed and drive dangerously, thus, get into more accidents.

  • @BryceSommer I heard that red cars, especially sport cars tend draw attention to cops. Possible.

  • mucho interesante!!!(@_@) pero no puedo creer este reportaje completamente f^_^;

  • hmm... does this mean if I play Super Smash Brothers Brawl and I change luigi's color to red, I'll be more likely to win? Interesting...

  • Wonderful, informative, and very interesting.

  • I watched this video a few days ago, & I had a skating competition the next day, so I wore a red shirt.

I WON! haha, $300 & tons of prizes and stuff. I dunno how much the red shirt influenced the judges, but either way, I'm wearing red in every competition from now on for sure!

    Thanks science!

  • This isn't a new theory. Executives have been wearing "power" ties for decades. The real question, in my opinion, is how to you educate the masses so that they are not so easily manipulated?

  • Hehe Remember the Red Baron?

  • just like a bull saw a red cloth

  • Not really. Bulls are red-green colorblind. It's the waving of the cloth that rile them up.

  • the two colors tha chicago bulls wear.. red and just recently green

  • RED for fresh MEAT!

  • lool.

  • interesting, I've always thought about this. not only because it gives you more points, but also because the color red is an automatic sign for "stop", which will make the opponent "freeze" so to speak, or how i now should put it. my theory only...

  • yoyo

  • lol uh i saw the same results either way, the original winner had the same points to me.

  • wow interesting

  • GOOD VIDEO!!

  • BTW, advertisers have known this for years.

  • That's why you need to KO the other guy. Then it doesn't matter what color you have. Unless the red of the blood coming out of their nose helps them too.

  • Not to be negative but I live in Cincinnati. Every morning I turn on the local news and get the details on just how the Reds managed to lose this time. If I lived in Boston I wouldn't have a problem with this theory. In the last two presidential elections Ohio was a red state, and look what that got us. And did you ever do a light colors or white laundry where somehow your red shirt got in the washer and everything in your laundry became pink? I think red has a lot to answer for - no excuses!

  • Does this have racial implications. This ties in with the Harvard Implicit Association Test.

  • then i should buy lots of red shirt.

  • china always wears blue, surprisingly and they still win :)

  • paper folds. are you not watching the olympics. china is always wearing red.

  • and notice this is the first olympics in many where Russia is not wearing red. Have you seen them anywhere? There is, like, three of them.

  • no they wore blue in light kick boxing. i forgot what its called. they're always wearing blue there.

  • okay before you guys say anything here is statistics.

in boxing light heavyweight 81 kg Zhang Xiaoping won the final. and he was wearing BLUE.

    I know what I'm saying

  • haha

this was up during the korea/japan world cups cause korea was playing so well and were also wearing red

  • That is why in old video games, the 1st player is always red, and 2nd is blue. The red one is the main character while blue is the partner.

  • Looked the same to me. I bet if China wore green, they'd make the same video talking about the effects of green. We need to stop making excuses, seriously, yes we're losing in gold medals. So what? That will only drive us to be better next time around. We were once gracious winners, now, we're beginning to sound more and more like sore losers. "judges are amateurs", "those gymnasts are too young", "well, China has more people". When did we become a country of whiners.. wait, nvm, we always were.

  • will fuck north side 14!!

  • wow does that expain why chinese get so many gold.

em... my country singapore also wear red but lose almost every match lol

  • hmm is kinda true ,

I remb white colour and black also have effect.

white colour tend to make a person look big size , whereas black tend to make a person look slimer.

  • i read something like this in the metro, it said teams in the premiership that are red win more games on average.

  • so red-assed baboons are the real king of the jungle?

  • and THAT is why the 49ners are awesome?

  • Camo works too =D

  • China is all red LOL HAHA No wonder their winning like nuts

  • the red baron:)

  • retarded. everybody knows this already. these guys just wasted time research on this piece of shit.

red is a universal distractor. dont u even know that?

    americans wear red sometimes too.

why dont u pity other countries with no red in tehir flag first.

and of course. this has no effect in events where it is more timebased. eg swimming.

  • I say pink instead of red!

  • How would you explain Red Sox 86 years without winning a title?

  • Haha. Great analogy for the Red Sox.

  • watch?v=1UEOZGFzPas

  • they should ban the color red forever.

  • this is intresting but i think this is a case of americans coming up with an excuse as to why china are kiking ther arse in olympics..

  • No, our excuse is that they're cheating =P

  • It makes sense for things such as wrestling but anything else i dont see how this would affect the outcome of an event.

  • yeh maybe but not for canada they fuckin blow this year

  • interesting

  • Yah it might be more related to our wild side as he said, since a lot fo the animal are online able to see black, white and red...like the dogs

As far as i know only some parrots are able too see all the colors

  • and that is why the you tube logo is red. its all brainwashing.

  • red looks good (^^,)

  • lol i dont care!

  • No puede ser !!!!

yo practico TKD y siempre uso protector azul. con razon, de haberlo sabido, cualquier ventaja es wena y más en los juegos olimpicos.

  • No boludo, en tu caso es porque no sabes pelear xD

  • No fuckin way!!!! Noooo. How bout we dress up a scrawny guy in red to compete with a fit dude and see the scrawny guy in advantage. What about the ALL BLACKS rugby team!?!?!? Black is a strong colour too???

  • This is were our taxes go to. Just awesome.

At least the physics guys make big badass wormholes and cool other stuff

  • haha wgil89's comment is so funny

  • thats dope

  • wow

    awesome

    very cool

  • Is that why the British army were known as the Redcoats for all those years?

  • no, because Britain back then was the world power, they feared no one so when they went into battle, they wore red, so everyone knew they were coming and could see them... And this made the British feel superior and more confident and enemies feel scared. And it worked, Until enemies learned to use this to there advantage.

  • Translation: China is beating the US in gold medals because they're wearing red.

    USA making excuses... tsk tsk.

  • poptacular6625: "USA making excuses... tsk tsk."

This study was done by German scientists, and it was done before the Olympics.

  • As far as I'm concerned, "University of Rochester Psycology Professor" screams USA. Sciencentral is American. And the fact that this is being brought up NOW is very suspicious to me.

  • You think it's suspicious that a topic relevant to the Olympics is being brought up ... during the Olympics?

A professor who doesn't name a single country "screams USA" by comparing colors and reporting on the results of data done before the Olympic games began?

  • Why can't I be suspicious? It is relevant to the olympics, yes. And for crying out loud, he doesn't need to name countries for the public to know who wears red. And if he did name countries, it would've outright proven my 'theory' that this is a cryout by the US.

But obviously red isn't the only deciding factor and they are basing it on a taekwondo fight - or it could be anything with arbitrary "judged" results - rather than, say, a track race where it's clear who past the finish line first.

  • Also consider, then in the case of it only effecting sports that are subject to "judgment", that red might inspire a subconscious reaction that is NOT beneficial to the competition at hand. Not all sports are violent or authoritative in nature (many are though). Just more consideration, not a "cryout" (out cry?)

  • Well that explains why the Red Sox won

  • word

  • no wonder China has been winning so many gold medals lately

  • Hmm Never Thought of that..

  • That doesn't explain why Canada isn't winning many though.

  • sub4sub??

  • ...yep, i could see that being true!

  • I have to change all my clothes to red and Ill be the lord of the world!

    Muhahaha!!!

    Just kidding...

  • ha,of shot by crips

  • that must explain why the wings keep winning the cup?

  • lol

    in the olympics;;

al the chiese wear red and they are dominating everyone

  • lol. I was the blue one in my fight and I lost xD!! damn!!

  • now i'm going to have to switch to red thai shorts.

  • sweet! I'm wearing red at my next comp!
