i was 7 or 8 years old when this movie was in theaters and my mom took me to see it. I CRIED!!!!!!!!! Oh my Lord I cried. And I didn't understand why I was crying at this scene. The tears started when Shug began to sing (that was the holy spirit) and then again when her father embraced her (the power of foregiveness.) I realized that she had been carrying around some serious hurt and at that moment it all went away . All that at age 7 or 8 years old.
