i seen that at my camp, during nice hot sunny weather, and i notice a water tornado or waterspout cross a lake like over 150MPH, and gone! i was like..wtf hell was that, i got totaly confuse for while, no clouds, bright sun, no wind. and it only takes 10seconds!

They can pose a hazard to boats. Sometimes, but not always a waterspout is a tornado on water, In that case something on the water c could be a a significant risk. I think the tornado that hit Andover, Kansas moved out over a lake at one point. At times that tornado was rated an F5.

The reason it's so weak is because it's non tornadic. Non tornadic waterspouts don't do as much damage and aren't during storms. Tornadic waterspouts aren't as common but you can tell the differnece because, tornadic waterspouts look like tornadoes on water.

No - that's a fair weather waterspout. They do have a funnel, but unlike tornadic waterspouts, they rise up from the water. Tornadic watersputs have a thick, cloudy looking appearence. They sometimes bend from side to side, and they are usually much bigger. And for it to be tornadic, the funnel would have to come down from the thunder cloud.

It's fair weather. It looks to me that the thunderstorm there was just an ordinary thunderstorm. For it to be a tornadic waterspout, that thunderstorm would have to be what scientists call 'supercells'. A supercell thunderstorm is usually a very large and dangerous thunderstorm that rotates on a vertical axis. They cause the most powerful tornadoes as well as very large hail and very strong winds.

This is a very weak tornado. The reason that I say that is because the winds arent picking up a lot of water. With tornadoes, the stuff that they pick up is how the tornado is seen. The weaker the storm, the less stuff is picked up.

Quite rare. About 10 per year are reported. Most of them are in scale f0. The most powerful ones have been approximately in scale f3-f4 (1930s) .
