I get what you mean about boring. As much as I love SAW series, they borrowed the melodrmatic elements of Gothic storytelling (like ALIEN 1-4)and it's those things that become too "soap opera"-ish. It because the plot is too focused on itself and has no transcendence says nothing about society at large for example like Scream or Halloween, The conventional thinking was to add more depth with strong plot. Slashers have minimal plot but get right down to the point. So it's kind of a hard balance.
I like Saw, but thats just my opinion. I find it more of a "gore & mystery" movie rather than Horror. Mostly because it has random gore. And it unroll's itself during the movie, instead of giving the entire story to you. Hence the fact that it has like, 7 movies... but thats just my opinion, I respect that you hate it.
