  • 1. Get a decent laptop with HDMI input and a HDMI cable.

    2. Download a N64 emulator.

    3. Download Mario 64

    4. Max the settings on the emulator

    5. Plug in the HDMI in your HDTV

    6. Start your emulator and enjoy smoothness and nostalgia.

As a bonus, buy a N64 - USB converter for maximum awesomeness!

  • @mariomenu Or buy an snes for less than an hdmi cable costs, and enjoy it just as much.

  • @biggiedickson

How are you supposed to play N64 games on a SNES...? Btw: That was just an option if you are either too lazy to get a N64 or if you find those blocks and straps annoying.

  • At 0:15m you can actually read Mario's thoughts going like: "Where the hell are modern filter effects when you need them?".. :)

  • reducing sharpness and contrast will prob be helpful

  • are you using s video or are you using the red white yellow cables?

I have a 46" Samsung which only has RedWhiteYellow input, no svideo.

Just wish I checked b4 I bought an n64 on ebay >_< Do you think it'll be playable?

  • this guy probably thinks you can just "enhance" photos like they do in CSI too

  • it looks like shit by the way

  • congrats you can plug three cables into a tv you deserve a reward

  • there is a n64 component cable I think

  • SO COOOL

  • mario derp face at 0:22

  • 240p? that doesn't look like HD to me....

  • If you download this at the Wii Shop Channel it actually has high quality.

  • just like digital zoom of digicam even though picture become large size.

  • The best way to play n64 is on a tube tv with an S video cable. The scan lines and interlacing actually improve the picture in the end. It was designed that way. The S video cable for the n64 and gamecube is the same so just get whatever you can find thats a decent brand and you're good to go

  • @logos2600: i agree. People should check out retroaccessories channel, they have some badass footage.. crisp sharp image with scanlines blows away this muddy crap from a lcd/plasma here.

  • @Paperclown Sweet I'll check it out. Since I commented I've learned more and changed my opinion a little - there really isn't interlacing on most old video games, its essentially progressive scan. Also tube TVs look great, but I am about to experiment using a scanline generator on LCDs. If it works, then LCD may be a superior screen because it doesn't flicker - tube tvs go blank every 1/60 second which causes eye strain. will post results on my channel

  • @logos2600: haha.. I hear you. After the post I made yesterday I found out about the SLG3000 which seemed to be really popular. Another product that does linedoubling and introduces scanlines. People on various retro forums seemed to went crazy about it and the youtube videos of it looked pretty good (bad camera work :( .. oh well.. I just want to try to get the most out of my n64 it can be hard to look at times haha

  • @Paperclown for now i think s video into a tube tv or a good brand LCD (like sony or sharp aquos) looks decent, but I think with the SLG you may be able to really get the best picture possible. haha yeah people are going crazy over it. It only takes VGA though so you need a separate converter. I managed to find a good converter, I plan to wire it with a SLG all in a single case and sell it, I think such an easy solution will sell a lot better than the SLG 3000

  • thumbs up if you has an n64

  • 240p , we met again

  • LOL I am watching this on youtube at 240p.

  • @Chaoitcme LOL YOUR LIKES ARE 24.

  • its because n64 isnt hd

  • @CPLuigiDrummer25, it looks HD on an emulator XD

  • AH MY EYES

  • I have a Samsung 2008 or 2009 TV? It is a touch sensitive one.

  • Did you know I have a old 1987 Kyoshu CRT TV set for retro gaming NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube.

And a 2008 Samsung TFT HDTV set downstairs for modern day consoles e.g. Nintendo Wii.

  • DK64 IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @AwesomeDude302120 just bought that game at the salvation army for 5 dollars :D haven't played the game in ages, so i'm pretty excited. it's a HUGE game and it's hard. (curse the spiked ice maze that moves) ahhhh!!!

  • you can buy some component cables, it will make your n64 games look way better on an hdtv

  • That's why I have two tv's in my room. Old tube SD tv for old school gaming and HDTV for new generation consoles. BTW the best way to play classic games on a HDTV is through roms, compilation discs, and virtual consoles. It's the only way I play classics games on the HDTV, which is rare. I prefer using the original hardware with classic gaming. XD

  • The quality sucks on my 32 inch hdtv. Please anyone give me tips to make my N64 look better on it. PLEASE! Sharpness to max=Clearer but more pixelated. Sharpness to min=Not so pixelated but EXTRA blurry. Switch aspect ratio=Only helps a LITTLE bit so it's not worth reducing my screen. Please, I beg, HELP!!!

  • One thing to remeber if your ever going to hook up older systems to HD TV like:

ps1 n64 nes snes genesis etc

Ur HDTV has to be small and not too wide or else the picture will stretch out and look like crap.

Reason: Back when the older consoles where made Tv where not big so the console does not really know how to properly fill the screen resulting in crappy picture.

  • when I hook mine up the sharpness isn't good

  • ya big deal i can hook my n64 up to my Tv too

  • better connect it to a crt tv

  • @nooblet911 I have a CRT set.

  • I like pixels showing, they just look more retro!

  • How did you hook it up? Ive been trying to get my n64 hooked up to my hdtv but all i get is sound but no picture. Could it be a bad A/V cable or is the tv just not compatible with the n64

  • @cmanblck45 Only SCART works to me..

  • @cmanblck45

I have no idea if you resolved your problem by now, but if you haven't, here's an idea: use an RV cable; after you hook it up, find out which channel it uses (mine used 2, even though it's usually 3 or 4). TURN YOUR TV OFF, turn the 64 on for about ten seconds, THEN turn the TV on. My HDTV won't read the signal from the 64 unless I do this, and I've read it on some forums, too. Sorry if this response is mega late, heh.

  • @cmanblck45 which did u put it on i use AV1 NOT AV2 and my vizio hdtv works with it.

  • @cmanblck45 i dont know if you found the solution, but i had similar problem last 3 days what i did was, if you have a gamecube, connect the cable to gamecube and turn on the gamecube and then try to use the cable on n64 again, that worked for me if not im sorry

  • the scaling of HDTV is good, even an old video game will look good, everything depends on the quality of the scaling of the TV, many people say the panasonic tvs come have a great scaling.

  • Get an S-video cable, will make itlook MUCH better.

  • @FeeLtheHertZ

I have an S video cable for mine, I plugged it in and to be honest it doesn't look that much different than using a regular AV cable.

  • My 2 year old bro wants to play on the N64 but all we have is an HDTV an i cant quite get it to hook up right.

  • @Azelmcfuzz I have HDTV and all you need to do is plug an S-Video (SVHS) cable into the TV (if your TV has the plug ports some don't) you can use Gamecube SVHS TV plug on the N64 too. If you own a Wii you can download old N64 games to it using internet and Wii points card plus a Wii Component cable will work on an HDTV. You can get a N64 VGA Box and plug it into the VGA port if your HDTV has one on it like mine and a plug for sound that look like a headphone jack (need an adapter for it)

  • @Azelmcfuzz Just use an AV cable.

  • yah you have to play the old systems on a small tv cus it looks like shit on newer tvs mt 42 in lcd looks like crap with mario.

  • how do you do this?

  • N64 games look better on my 22'' HDTV in the closet than it does on my current flatscreen SDTV. That flatscreen seems to bring all the flaws out of N64 graphics where as the HDTV it looks better. Its odd.

  • hey how'd you make it look that good on an hdtv? my n64 on my tv looks so horrible and saturated, even when i turn the brightness down it looks shit, i hardly take notice of pixelation. Do I need a wire or something?

  • ooooomg that level was remade in Mario Galaxy 2!! (sorry guys I never played Mario 64)

  • @cAc3d :O

  • So it's alright if you play at a distance and don't pay much attention to graphics?

  • @alchemistEXE My tv is 32 inches and my room was once a wardrobe....

  • can u tell me how u did this
