i love your videos, it is very helpful for a fresh dental assistant like me. I wish that you also include the detailed role of the da in your videos but other than that, your videos are awesome!
Interesting, I always wanted to make partials and dentures for a living, because it appealed to my artistic side.. but I ended up a simple house painter.
Thank you Dr. Gordon. I am a dental assistant getting back into the profession after a 3 year hiatus. Your videos are helping me get familarized again with tools and techniques. Very helpful, thank you.
@spygadget001 My mom had to get dentures quite young as well, even younger, 25 maybe. Nothing to be ashamed of, it's almost like getting a prothestic limb [perhaps not taken as seriously]. When something isn't healthy it needs to be removed or cleansed and sometimes replaced. People are ignorant. I bet you have a nicer smile than a lot of people with natural teeth :)
the reason for number 3. is so patients will come in for replacement dentures every 5-7 years as is most beneficial for their health and for the preservation of the alveolar bone. over time the denture becomes too loose. its like wearing a pair of shoes, if you walk in them too long you get giant callouses and sores and bunions because of the constant rubbing/pounding. oh, and my point for number 5. is that this results in no teeth just popping out. they're in there for good.
acrylic teeth are better than porcelain for a few reasons...
1. no clicking sound when the teeth come together or when they talk
2. because they are so hard they act to pound on the aveolar bone turning it to mush over the years. if the teeth arent wearing down something else has to. with acrylic they do wear quicker but it places most of the stress on the teeth and not the bone.
If you have the right free space, the dentures won't click.. As For the incline, our patient dont hate it, its good for chewing. Acrylic teeth are eaten over years or even month's.
So the whole occlusion what you created is gone. (normally in about 3 years)
Thank you for your council. I know the RPD is supposed to be 'snug', but it just doesn't feel like it should be a half-hour battle to get it out. I shall go back this week and have it altered.
Your advice is very appreciated, Dr Gordon, thanks so much!
Dr Jerry, I've just had a RMP fitted (a metal one) for two lost back teeth and another tooth that's closer to the front. It looks great, but it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to take out to clean. My dentist says that this is normal and that it will loosen up with time...but it's been four days now and I'm still battling. Should I, in your denturial opinion, get him to loosen it for me?

She is pretty young for dentures, isnt she? I think is about 27

either way...whatever.
Both methods are acceptable and ultimately it comes down to what you prefer but more importantly what the patient prefers.

Why do you use acrylic teeth?
We use porcelein teeth, these are much
harder and last dramaticly longer.?
garnet99999 4 years ago
My dentist use acrylic for temporary teeth while waiting for the finish product, which is the porcelein.

3. patients wont be so inclined to try to wear the same set of dentures for 20-25 years as they do with porcelain.
4. easy to trim/grind when setting up
5. chemical and mechanical bond to the methyl methacrylate with acrylic teeth compared to only a mechanical bond with porcelain.
Thats only a few reasons. I ONLY use acrylic teeth.

Who is this? Bobby????
lol, Its Jason from GBC. Must be....EMBRACE THE POWER OF THE GOJI!!!
It must be stated that adding on to an impression must be done carefully so as not to overextend the borders of the denture.
But overall, Great work Doctor.
