God,this sounds like an amazing tune emerging from the ether. You can hear syncopated chords alla chick corea in time with the higher drums. I could easily find pitches to go along with this. No wonder he is such an amazing collaborator with chick. His playing just gives you ideas.

I remember when I first heard about Mr. Weckl, I saw him on the cover of a vhs instructional video with this boisterous looking hairdo and was like..this dude is a total joke and that was it. 10 years later I listened to a live record of the Dave Weckl Band and felt like such a jackass for being so quick to judge. He really is the shit when it boils down to it he covers all areas of good music with finesse and class.

I've only discovered Weckl recently. (I'm a total metalhead) This guy's really complicated rhythms kinda remind me of Danny Carey's style from Tool. I love the really quick seamless double bass fills. Something I'm trying to perfect at the moment.

Yeah, me too except that I can outplay Danny Carey with one hand and so can pretty much any competent Jazz drummer. I dunno why so many people rave about Danny Carey - his style is so simplistic and average - really can't be compared to Weckl as words simply can't describe how far beneath Dave Danny actually is.
