  • To all of the people who dont like this BEAUTIFUL musical SCREW YOU ALL!!!!

  • Uhm... I think that EArendil is the right pronunciation, because Ea (with the umlaut above A) is not a diphthong, so it has to be pronounced EArendil, and not EErendil (with A intended as a second, long E)...

The problem is that she seems to say "Yarendil", but is a problem of accent and pronunciation in general: she seems a bit.. coarse!

By the way, I like it a lot. And Jerome Prandon is better as Aragorn, than as Judas.

  • It sounds a bit like she is singing 'Star of Yarendil'.

  • its hard to see the difference between arwen and elrond who is who :D

  • Love everything but Arwen's hair and mispronounciation of "Earendil." XD

  • @aviva0017 Her hair *is* a bit interesting. Also, accent marks just aren't for show. She pronounced it the way you just wrote it.

  • What's with the "gangsta" face tattoo?

  • at 1:15 it looks like sir ean mcellan or how ever you spell it. but seriously it does

  • Elrond can dance!

  • @Eleanorminblack

He probably can, but dramatically sweeping your arm once or twice does not constitute dancing.

  • i think this is my favorite number from the show.

  • i wisihthat they would bring it back and that a few actors would let younger actors do a veersion in the west end that would suit me perfectly tats if they came to dublin for audisions

  • 0:11

Elrond should have reached over, smiled, and patted Arwen on the shoulder. That would have been cute.

  • I miss this show!..It was one of the most emotionally touching shows I've ever seen.

The elves performances especially were just so beautiful..and when Gandalf fought the Belrog..it was so dramatic I remember me and my friend crying into the interval as soon as we heard Frodo scream "GANDALF"

It's an amazing show and I'm so sad it's gone :(

  • @WickedGaGaFan

The website says there will be a World Tour in 2011.

  • @Serena2009ification I need more information.

  • @beckys757

    About...?

  • I'm really hoping for a DVD of the show, or at least a tour location coming near my home (though I know our stages just don't offer what this show needs, what with the moving stage and all...but maybe they'll find a way to make it work).

I get the chills watching this performance...is it just me?

  • FYI, they are planning a World Tour in 2011. Go to the website... lotr dot com

  • Yes I'll admit that up close her "eyebrows" look weird but I see what the make-up artist was trying to do. Thats a very big stage with a very large audience andthus a very large distance between actress and audience. When they have the camera far away you can see how those markings sharpen her features and lengthens her face giving it an eretheral quality making her more elf-like. Its quite nice but I'm a stage actress anyway so I'm used to the weird and heavy make-up that nessasary for this.

  • This show didn't get half the amount of respect it deserved!

This show was incredible and could have run for years!

They need to at least release a DVD of the show or else it will be forgotten :(

  • YARendil.... Really? That's how they think it's pronounced?

  • @LMJ314142 Tolkeins family were involved in the process

  • Hey look, a swedish "Ä" =) Go sweden!

  • I love how they worked the motif of two kinds of elves into the musical aswell. The more enlightened elves of Rivendell and the more primordial elves of Lothlorien.

  • Love the song, but this is only a small portion of it. The full version is well worth finding.

  • god this is epic

  • whoa she has scary eye brows at :42 lol

  • @chevalover06

I know, right? It looks like they plucked all natural brows to speak of and drew on these weird, scary ones. @__@

  • Looks like Im heading to Toronto! This musical looks beast!

  • It closed years ago, sadly...

  • No!!! That makes me so sad!!!! Why do i always find out about this stuff YEARS later. So there really isn't going to be a world tour in 2011????

  • @PrInCeSsFBi45 : I hope that they will go on world tour next year. I want to see this musical so much!!!!

  • 0:99 is my favourite, very well done

  • Yeah, it is true...very good piece

  • A Elbereth Gilthoniel...Star of Eärendil...

    beatifull, beatifull song!

  • i can't wait for the world tour next year :) getting jittery. I will see it, it looks awesome!!! will the same people be doing it?

  • my teacher is richard brown and was the musical director for this production in toronto an london and oldbluescott said they did pronounce it right the lyrics were all checked by the genius's at oxford university and they have studied tolkeinnology for years so i think they are more qualified to say it correct. and this song is in high elvish not middle elvish so it is correct :D

  • is this the london version?

  • Yes

  • i'm not a fan of what they did to her eyebrows.

  • @snowwhiteandjazz its all part of stage make-up. Each character has something to help the audience remember who is who and to emphasize the character. Like the scar along Legolas' face.

  • @orliluvr1432

Yes, but there's GOOD stage make-up and there's BAD stage make-up.

  • @Serena2009ification A matter of opinion. I'm not a fan of it, but if not exactly suitable to the character. It's great work for stage makeup. So technically, it's FANTASTIC make-up, just on the wrong people.

  • Comment removed

  • one of a kind makeup artist. they spattered paint on her face.

  • @snowwhiteandjazz They wanted her to look ethereal, that's why the eyebrows are so high! That's how I imagine elves would look like!

  • i aculy got the sound track on itunes i love this so mauch. this song is acsoly a bit longer that what is song hear

  • The song style is too modern for my taste

  • this shit is ridiculous... so awesome

  • this musical was based on the BOOK of Lord of the Rings... not the movie. it is not intended to resemble the movie in any sense at all, and the elves in this are much different to Peter Jackson's interpretation of the elves.I saw it in London and it was phenomenal.

  • I agree that it's not like the movie, but it's not like the book either. There's only one time when Arwen is only briefly mentioned in the book. Her and Aragorn's story is found in the appendices of the book. It's kind of a hybrid of the two.

  • Actually, I recant...it's more like the movie than the book. There's parts that they leave out from the movie, but it's more based on the movie definately.

  • It is based off the book, the Tolkien Scion had a (minor) hand in the writing and I was lucky enough see the closing night with the speeches. There he explained that the Musicals original ending was a canon his father wanted to explore; what happens with Gollum if they hadn't met Faramir and if Sam had been nice.

It's certainly a bit of a hybrid in terms of what scenes they chose but it doesn't follow the movies plot - if it does have similarities it differs on its own route quickly enough.

  • What I was focusing on is all the parts that Arwen has. She is separate from the original books, her and Aragorn's story. That part is definitely more of a dynamic from the movie, just expanded upon.

  • If you say, I think its just more 'for the same reason' that they include her, rather than 'to copy the movie'.

They're short of female characters and she's one of the few they could introduce. A musical without Soprano's/women singers will get old quick. She has no part in the plot of the musical after this song - but I don't think any of this can be definitive.

  • Very true. She does have a really good voice too. I've always loved the story of Arwen and Aragorn (it's the hopeless romantic in me), I'm glad they added it in.

  • True. That's also why they had to add a real female to Spamalot.

  • Warum klingen alle Musicals nur so erschreckend ähnlich?

  • @lotrhpnmask It IS true to the story.

  • awesome just awesome!

  • Oh yess MY MISTAKE sir ohh my she must be exceptionally amazing, seeing as this musical is totally a classic and everyone has heard of it and it lasted so long on stage.....

    oh wait......................

  • The movie? Lol, it's a BOOK! Please people, lord of the rings is a BOOK!

  • Thank you!!! And an awesome one too!

  • Sure is :)!

  • @whrlybird This is an adaptation of the books. NOT the movie. Its someone else's interpretation of the story.

  • Ugh...I don't like this Arwen. I'm still hooked on Liv Tyler's amazing performance (:

  • I think she has a nice voice except at the beginning.

  • Comment removed

  • She's Arwen?!?!

    ughhhh

  • I don't think you understand the style of music here. AFAIK the Elves' music is based off of Indian classical music.

Regardless, I think she (and the ensemble) sound great.

  • I understand the MUSIC exceptionally. I love the music it's incredible. the elves sound great, this arwen is just a terrible singer. Her technique = UGH. But thats okay, you have your opinion.

  • Fair enough.

  • It was amazing & she is SO gorgeous!!!!!

  • who is she suppoesed 2 b

/ galadriel? ithink not galadriel is golden silver hair from the teleri and noldor

  • Arwen is the character singing. Galadriel's ancestry was Noldor and Vanyar from Finarfin, her father. Her mother was Earwen was of the Teleri.

  • aahhh!!! How does she pronounce Eärendil?? Horrible!!!

  • It's like opera. It sounds beautiful unless you can understand what they're singing.

  • If I gave you a language based on a language you'd never spoken or heard of, I'd think you might have trouble pronouncing it too, dumbass.

  • But if singing in this language was part of your job, I'd imagine you'd want to at least do a little research and get it right. In this case, though, I think the problem lies with whoever wrote the score - there simply isn't room in that song to pronounce Eärendil the right way. Either it has too few syllables or the stresses are all wrong.

  • Elf sign language?

  • truly astonishing...Amazing production!

  • so u've been on th musical awesome!!!! how was it?

  • do u know if there is any dvd or whole video of the musical? please guys help me i love LOTR

  • i dont think there is one at the moment! erm.. yer sorry! im not really much help! If you find one please let me know as i woul also love one. The show was AMAZING!

  • I desperately want to see this one stage. My heart was broken when I found out it was closed, because I kept planning to take a weekend to see it while I was on study abroad. People kept telling me, 'you know Spain's not really that close to England, right?' my response: 'it's closer than the US.'

  • duchess...: apparently it will becoming back...they are doing a european tour...hope that helped...2010

  • I wish this song were longer! I love it!

    And the chorus...the blend is just...beautiful! :D

  • I hope to see this one day live in my life time. I grew up on the books and not the music, and know for a fact tolken loved music, there are many songs they sing in the book.

  • i loved this musical so gutted when i found out it was closing i saw it 4 times and on the final night. i thought throughout the run the cast's were amazing. i dont really think that lotr was the best sellers in london but it had one of those cult like followings that should have kept it going for longer.BRING BACK LOTR.

  • i didnt like what Andrew Loyd Webber did, he removed LOTR just to put Oliver and becuz he owns the theatre in drury lane... he's so selfish! he cud've removed other musicals

  • well oliver isn't a webber show yea its a cameron mackintosh and i am willing to bet Cameron Mackintosh was going to pay alot more than what LOTR was paying if thats the case he madea good busicness deal and remember LOTR was really expenvie to put on they probably were losing money quicly anyway

  • Ive seen lord of the rings three times, and was there on the last night as I had friend sin the show. I thought the cast all worked bloody hard, And the show was fabulous. If it comes back to the westend,I would encourage everyone to go. It was amazing.

  • Maybe it should go on Broadway, give America a turn to try it out. That'd make it even bigger! But it could just go on both, I suppose. It's that amazing!

  • probs the greatest musical iv eva seen

its so gay its not in london neymore

  • It'll go back, I'm sure of it, that, or it'll go on Broadway over in New York.

  • When i saw it there was a talk and the guy laying Elrond and he said the show is going to australia but then its going on tour so it will be bk in the Uk again at some point. I so wanna play galadriel!

  • dont like her voice that much.

    the show is great!

  • I have to disagree about her voice. It's not the best I've heard, but it's still pretty good for the difficulty of the song.

  • I envy all who've seen this.

I can't believe I had no want to go ..

    But NOW.

I want to go SOO BAD.

  • I love the musical - can't to see it in Germany either!!! WHOOOOOOOOOO

  • I am so jealous of anyone who has seen this.

  • Beautiful!

  • I can't believe I had no real desire to see this. Is there anywhere where I can watch it?

  • Where can you find the soundtrack of the London cast?

  • HMV i got it for £13 its a gorgeous case as well and it includes a dvd with the songs and pictures of the show.

  • you can find it on itunes :]

  • HMV! thats where i got mine

  • I'm trying to find "The Song Of Hope" but i can't find it anywhere. Can somebody help me?

  • It's really nice. but I think her eyebrows look a little weird. But still I'm SOOOO happy I'm go to see it in London!

  • youve got to go and see this shit!!! its amazing!! i saw it in may and im goin back on the 4th of july, im soo excited lol! ;D

  • (Using my sister's account now...:P)

TT-TT This is so unfair...I so wish we had these wonderful musicals in our country. Unfortunately, they don't even tour here.

This musical is so amazing! I wish it didn't have to close even if I never get to see it live...

  • DARN IT!!! looks like ill have to convince my mom to let me go to london before it closes. Thanks for the info yak182, i asked the same question on another page and NO ONE would reply!

  • Am i the only one who thought the hand movments were extremly cool! Sometimes something so simple can be the most spectacular part of a whole big thing! Also BEAUTIFUL singing voice!!!!

p.s anyone know if it's coming to the U.S?

  • it was in toronto mate, that was ur best bet of seeing it.

  • This musical I studied more about it and the movements they use are a combination of prayer movements done in India and Arabia and many more things from around the world. Even the music is a combination of instruments and voice techniques. The candle movements are even from different parts of the world.

  • It's closing? o 3o

    The signs told me (when I went to see it) that it was going to Australia... ^^;;

Oh, and the new Galdriel sounds almost exactly like the original, so there's no problems there for anyone who was wondering. ^^

  • yeah its goin germany first, then doing new zeland and austrailia, then in like 2010 there doin a tour of the uk, but itll be a smaller production.

  • seeing it on the 14th of july cant wait im so overjoyed well it took me ages to convince my mum and dad btw does anyone no if abbie osmon is good.

  • I went a few days ago, But it was her understudy playing and she was excellent. So chances are Abbie will be even better.

  • Seeing it June 21st!

  • have seen it at london at 10th of april, absolutely amazing, especially the ringwraith!!! gandalf's voice is the gentlest. the balrog has been so impressive! ^^

  • I saw it last week, and I think it was absolutely AMAZING, and the music and the songs are so beautiful. I couldn't help crying in the end.

Especially Galadriel and Legolas (in the London production) has the most beautiful voices.. WOW :D

  • i've heard they're comingo to vegas on summer....anyone knows anything?????

  • What?????????!!!!!!!!!!! Vegas?!

  • Can you buy a dvd of it? because that would just be amazing.

  • If you want to see it you better be quick, its already been cancelled due to not making enough money

  • the soundtrack of this show comes to the usa April 11

  • i saw it last night , was absolutely amazing, does neone know where i can get a good movie shot of the dark riders on stage, they were fantastically done

  • well, if you buy the album there's a picture of a dark rider in that! hope that's helpful!

It's amazing isn't it! I saw it last year! Can't believe it's closing this summer! Ahhhh!

  • I agree, the dark riders and the spider were fantastic. I was amazed by how they were done. So cool!

  • Every review on this makes it bad but to be honest, i've seen it twice and I've enjoyed it so much. I thought first time, how the hell are they gonna make that into a musical? but they do it really well, definetly one you need to see!

  • this looks ok actually... thought it would be much shitter than this...

  • I think this is my least favorite song on the soundtrack. And they look silly with those candles on their hands. I don't know, maybe it's better in person, but it just doesn't seem to fit for me. The beginning is good, if they had just left it as a little ditty for Arwen to sing, I think I would have liked it better.

  • I went last week. Its was fantastic and moving!

  • Is this coming to the U. S.? Cause i can't go to london or toronto! Let's bring this musical to America!

  • Arwen:

Star of Earendil look down, hear our cry

Ever shining perfect light, emblazon the sky

Heed us as to thee we sing

Enlighten us in the hope you bring

Guide our way and aid us from on high

  • i would recomend this 2 any1, im not even a big LOTR fan but i went and it was the best theatrical experience of my life!!!

  • Ive read the books a few times and I seen the show in October. It blew me away! I went in a bit sceptical coz I couldnt see how they could create middle earth on a stage but I thought they worked miricles and captured it beutifuly. Especialy the destroying of the ring, that was a very moving scene.

  • I just don't see elves as the belter types

  • the musical is fantastic! hard core LOTR fans need to remember the book is about wizards and elfs and magic rings, not a musical representation of something serious like the Vietnam War or the holocost.Chill out. If it doesn't suit u then fine but stop being sooooooo picky.

  • you know they did that too... they called it miss saigon! hugely successful! not nearly as pulled apart as this!! xxx

  • *weeps uncontrollably for the fact that I CAN'T GO SEE THIS*

  • Music: great. Sets, costumes and lighting: Great. Story: we know it works, but somehow the creative crew didn't know how to bring it together. My friend and I were waiting for the "Springtime for Saruman" number

  • Why has she got extra eyebrows drawn on?

  • It is stage make up

  • Oh!! Yeah, I sort of realised it a week after I wrote this comment! :)

I don't know why people have down thumbed my comment cos I was only asking a question guys!

  • this musical isnt bad! its amazing!! and i love the lotr books and this is carrying on tolkiens vision he wanted his works to inspire!! the effects are amazing! the music is incredible! go and see it then judge it! just dont slag it off to others that think its sooo worthwhile

  • i know lotr the musical is supposed to be really bad but i still wish i could have seen it!

  • Who said it's supposed to be really bad? There are people who don't like it, but there are also a great many people who do like it! And most of the people who are slating will have refused point black to go and see it in the first place! (though I do acknowledge that the comments below aren't all positive and some speak from experience). xxx

  • It was the toronto production that got bad reviews but the people who saw it said that it was amazing and it got mixed reviews in london- i think it looks amazing and really wish that i could see it...unfortunately im in NY :(

  • I don`t know where you have heard such a thing. he lotr musical is not bad, its Amazing! And the critics feel so too so really, i can`t seem to understand you. Go and see it and you won`t be dissapointed. xD

  • i liked the show really well coreagraphed i wasnt bored at all i saw this production with marvel in toronto at the PWT.

  • Well you are entitled to your opinion...but in defense...in the book they were always singing songs, and as this is a blessing ritual why not have singing..they do in church. Sorry you were bored

  • I went to see it last July and I was amazed by what they achieved. What an amazing musical it is! I can't understand how you can be bored watching such an outstanding performance!! On the other hand, I DO understand why you don't like the Elvish songs or the hand movements. It looked more like something Asian or so than Elvish to me. I didn't like that at all, but I still think the songs are beautiful. The hobbits songs were fantastic though, exactly the way they should be!

  • what do u mean didn't sound elvish?

they where sometimes SUNG in elvish

well, its your own opinion... hope you like other things

  • well, if you /know/ elvish and the way they pronounce things, that's how you can tell. I /do/ know elvish, and I think for the most part they were pronouncing it correctly, there were a few parts that sounded off, but not too bad. The only thing that is kind of off from this is Earendil, how it's pronounced. E and A are separately pronounced, eh-ar-en-deel is how it is spoken.

  • This summer me and my friend on holiday in London. In one week time we went to see the musical twice. It was amazing and we both agree if we could we would go again.

  • When my friend told me they were turning this into a musical I thought she was kidding! I stand corrected!

  • I would love to see this!

  • Visually it's beautiful, but I wish the music was less Broadway and more Irish Celtic... like Anúna.

  • I was stunned by the set when i went i was just like OMG all the way through. We were sat in the grand circle so the view was stunning and the hobbits came and talked to us at the start lol it was so funny

  • *Melts* THAT WAS AMAZING.

  • Just saw it today.

    Twas AMAZING!

The harmonising was stunning you hardly believe they're singing it live.

Laura as Galadriel was the highlight!

    x

  • Omg it must be reallyn awesome in real!

  • This looks really original. I wish I understood it though. I guess I just need to see it...

  • THIS MADE ME CRY!!!

  • Another great song from the musical, a beautiful voice.
