What made him sound so bad, in my opinion, is that one, you can hear the crossfader click so you can't hear THAT well. Two, he was pretty off beat on about 40% of his scratches

It sounds to me like that crossfader curve is slack, in other words its near impossible to get nice sharp cuts and crabs would be out of the question. Perhaps you have moved onto a better mixer since? I have a vestax pmc05 which is pretty good for the price.
