  • Where did this song originate? Who wrote it?

  • replaying :)

  • que beau video.

    le film est fantastique!

  • Once upon a time, the french cinema, my cinema, had something to say and something to sing... and now it's finish...

  • thanks God for corinne marchand.

she is a model of beauty to me. A

  • Search "Corinne Marchand" on FaceBook

  • J'aimerais qu'Agnès Varda soit ma grand-mère.

  • beautiful.

    i love the nouvelle vague

  • TRANSLATION TO ENGLISH :- Cleopatra, I worship you With all doors open wide With the wind rushing through I'm like an empty house Without you Without you Like a deserted isle Invaded by seas My sands slip away Without you Without you With beauty unseen Exposed to cruel winter My soul cannot dream Without you Without you Gnawed away by despair My body decays In an open bier Without you If you wait too long I'll have been laid to rest Ashen, pale and alone Without you Without you
  • Does anyone know of any other songs similar to this? Also in French. I just find this so unbelievable moving..

  • @9hendrix9

Check out other michel legrand stuff like from demoiselles de chrbourg "la chanson de maxence" or parapluies de cherbourg "devant le garage"

  • Wow I loved it:D

  • Wow!!

  • J'aime ce film!

  • One of the most beautiful love song ever sung. Corrine Marchand is breathtaking!

  • So amazing. So perfect. Thank god for Agnes Varda!

  • I really liked this film. I'm writing a paper about it right now comparing it to Funny Face

    Such a beautiful song too.

Seen dozens of times and still same emotion.

I sing that song in my car, when feel relaxed, it comes as a natural way to express life and fear that it may end.

'Sans toi' means for me 'without life'. Merci.

  • Dedico esto a Alfredo Calderon, Meme Solis, Jose Soroa, Conchita Bouza, Esteban Luis Cardenas, Wlater Garcia Rosales, Lazaro Gonzalo " Choli" Naranjo.....Luyano, Lawton Habana Cuba

  • thanks for posting this, i was just about to do it too when i saw this. beautiful. michel legrand is the greatest.

Thanks for the video,, with lyrics and translation

  • I've been looking for that for ages! My favourite bit of the film. Thanks!

  • So nice!! Wonderful! Heavenly melancholick Beautiful Song by Legrand.

What does he mean with that phrase about Cleopatra at the beggining of the video?

  • Legrand the pianist say's "Cleopatra, I idolize you! " to the singer, who's name is Cleo(patra) in the story. A charming film, to be sure.

  • Thank you very much, KFS! Sorry, Je ne parle françois. :-)

  • Eventually, I'll write out the piano part as a midi. Can't seem to find the sheet music for it, so need to transcribe the piano part by ear. Nice composition.

  • @kfspiano You know, I never understood how Agnés Varda got away with this but the song is actually Nino Ferrer's "La rua Madureira," but with different lyrics and a slower tempo. I am sure that you can find the sheet music for that and work with that. I suppose copy right law just wasn't as strong as it is today.

  • @christiancrusty Well, I can't really agree too much with your view. One could say Ferrer's song was inspired by Pachalbel's Cannon, if you push the analogy. Ferrer's song is just a constant, boring repetition of the descending harmony line, that is fairly well known in classical music. Michel Legrand's "Sans Toi" is much more interesting, harmonically and structurally.

  • @kfspiano after f min and e dimished 6/c what comes next i am very curious of the melody and harmony and chords

  • @mynillywita9milli I promise you, I will send you the transcription, just as soon as I find time to finish it. The version in the film, has an orchestra background, too; I'd like to arrange something just for piano solo and voice; eventually it could be sung like Ute Lemper's version of Kurt Weill's "Complainte de la Seine" (which I highly recommend you listen to)

  • @kfspiano that would be amazing

  • One of the best film scenes ever, merci beaucoup!

  • You can find the original film on Emule, y'know. Charming movie.

  • Great! I know the english version: 'You're gone', and I had heard the French, but never quite understood the words. Now I got all the originals, the film it is from, and you wrote down the lyrics too! Great work, thanks a lot!!

  • please, can you tell me, who sings the english version, cuz i cant find anything that match. i am desperate.

  • There does not exist an English version of this song. The english translation you see, is a translation I made, just for this youtube clip. I can't even find the sheet music to this song, either. Will have to play it by ear.

  • There IS an English version - sung by Michel Legrand himself. And it's bloody amazing. The title is 'You're Gone': same melody, but the lyrics are nowhere near a literal translation. Still good lyrics, though. Legrand's version, along with Corrine Marchand's 'Sans Toi', is on the CD Nouvelle Vague: Le Cinema de Michel Legrand. Totally exquisite.
