Fantastic, one of the best bands ever... so looking forward to seeing them play the entirety of 'Moving Pictures' in their upcoming European tour come May this year.
@RushRules4 lol, I was totally joking, love your reply, But I have better ones being that my son always says that TD is better I had some time to think about it. just acouple..... Portnoy should have learned just one more thing from Niel, loyalty to your band. how do you try to sound as good as the 3 guys from Rush?, with 5 guys. DT are great but Rush are the greatest band the world has ever seen. the musicianship, song wrighting, sound,,,the perfect storm in music. Rush for ever!!!
@RushRules4 you should check out Dream theater "black clouds and silver linings" they take so much from Rush, its insane. DT kind of fill in the space for me when I have the need for new Rush like music. they are very talented but not the original and they have a little Heaver edge. if it were up to me Rush would come out with 3 new records a year. ill be seeing Rush in MSG and any other venue in the NYC/NJ area. cant wait! Rock on my Rush Brother!!!!!!
I love to listen to this song while sitting atop Mt. Lafayette and looking over the Pemigewasset Wilderness. It must have been great yet demanding to produce such a production quality sound on tour.
Rush is definitely the best band in the world. It's awesome how they have different phases. Like 70s was kinda heavy rock, 80s were more keyboard oriented and the late 90s till now are back in the kinda heavy thing again. That's amazing. And they're all canadian! Canada FTW!!!!! I only wish geddy still had his original voice
"Dont feed the People, but we feed the machines..........They shoot!! Without Fear ....In the name of a piece of dirt...For a change of Accent..or the colour of your shirt.....Better the pride that resides...In a citizen of the World!! Than the Pride that Divides..When a colourful Rag is unfurled...
Did you split the audio onto different tracks; because the vocals seem really separated and up front from everything else? Did you split it onto a soundboard?
@MisterDensity It sounds great, a lot of bassists in the 80s had that sound, but just so you know, that's not the chorus. It's the pre-chorus. The chorus of this song is when he says "The whole wide world..."
@MisterDensity power winows as a 43 year old is truly the second best rush album...it brings me so back to the 80s and my youth...hemispehres and 2112 unreal...but PW gets the edge due to timeline...i wanna go back gain and be 17.......crying....wahhhhhhhh
When you appreciate and enjoy Rush, no matter how many other bands you like as well, and spend time ( days or years ) listening to them, the uniqueness of this great band is always printed in your cells...Once you listen to them again You always vibrate like the first time they got you by surprise!...Timeless impact!
Signature guitars. Like Paul Reed Smith, a smaller manufactuer. I'm not sure they still make Signature guitars. Geddy was into Wal basses at the time too.
The lyric compares two phenomenon and judges one to be "better" than another. So therefore the lyric is not "a simple perception of the obvious truth".
What is the "truth" that you're talking about? I don't see it articulated in your comment...all truth is self evident....u either get it or you dont.....truth can be measured...it can be weighed..

This was the first rush song i ever heard going back 6 years now. My mate handed me power windows for the car journey and put side B in first. Own all the albums ever released and its been one hell of a journey. A truly remarkable band who have made my life better for their existence. Praise you!
(p.s. the main kick-ass guitar riff was way too quiet both times...all i got second time was geddy's short stabbing orchestral hits ..lol)
FYI: This concert was filmed in the late 80's in the land of heavy metal: Birmingham, England. This crowd is used to hard rock bands like Canada's greatest: Rush.
I don't think it was over-dubbed Mrantho. They're really good at reproducing their songs live. Remember they are running sequences on midi'd synths, which are likely the very same sequences and synths we hear on the album.
I like this song, specially the keyboards and the guittar that sounds like a foreign coutry. But i like more emotion detector, it is the best song in the album.

"better the pride that resides.. in a citizen of the world... than the pride that divides when a colorful rag is unfurled".
It's hard to believe Neil would forward such a Marxian interpretation of the nation-state.
I love Rush lyrics, but that one seems in conflict with modernity.
