Back a few years ago while passing through La., I stopped in at Mulate's for supper and ending up staying for a lot longer than I had intended. I had a really large time with delightful and friendly folks....dancing and dancing all nite.....It was heaven on earth and I too wish to be there now....
On 12-21-10 I drove east I-10 in a rental car from Houston to Vinton, Louisiana, I wish I could have listened to Cajun country music out in Calcasieu Parish. note: counties are "parishes" in LA. Also , Ali Landry was born in Breaux Bridge.

Just went to a dance in San Diego with some band called th Pine Leaf Boys. Who were these impersonators?! Naw! Seriously, it was a thrill to have Wilson Savoy here in town. We had beers together. Thanks for keeping Cajun (Acadian) music alive! AYYYYYYYYEEEE!
TDUB, That's it! I had to go down to the "Mardi Gras Cafe" here in San Diego and check out their stock of Boudin Blanc. Gonna have a bucket full tomorrow!
Cool to find this video. I met Jay Cormier on my way east to Daytona from San Diego. He was the house band at Mulates. That was in Oct. 2003. I wore my yellow T shirt from Mulates, which my sister had bought for me earlier! I remember he turned to the band and said in French, " Hey you guys, a Comeau from California!" Mulates was run by a woman named Goldie Comeau. I bought Jay's CD and still have it. I made sure I went down to the waters edge to touch Bayou Teche. I'm 11th generation Acadian.
Hello Lousiana, Just been out to dinner at one of my favourite resturants near my home in Northern Ireland where they were playing great Cajun Music, which inspired me to order delicious Cajun Chicken from the menu. Need I say that it was delicious, but obviously with a great Northern Irish twist to the flavour.
My dad has been the drummer with Jay for many years! i was always listening to them at mulates! jamie is playing the drums, so i guess dad was out of town at the time
He has also been the drummer for Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys for the past 20 years. Dad just started a new upcoming band called "High Performance" and they play at mulates sometimes now. So Check em out sometime!
I have never heard from Jay and I wonder if he is aware of the three videos I posted with him and his band. One of them has garnered the most hits of any video I have on YouTube and now that number is at 1422.
Thanks for posting this video. Jay is actually my Uncle! I'm in the Navy so I haven't seen him play in several years so I really enjoyed seeing him here.
I LOVE Mulate's one of my favorite places to go!!! ..I'll have to make a video with the CD from Mulates, the music is so much better than it sounds here.
Although I am a fiddle player, so I have some appreciation of how good that guy really is. I dont mean any disrespect to the band, but they sound like average bar musicians. The fiddle player has a really polished and smooth tone and style. His pitch and intonation are perfect and the smoothness with which he plays, his riffs and just his repertoir of licks and whatnot are as good as anything out there. He could make some great money as a session player.
I've played with Jay and the band when I've visited from the UK - they're light years above "average bar musicans" - the fiddle player and drummer in this video are not regulars - they're depping. Jay's regular fiddle player is Jamie Bearb and his drummer Kevin Dugas of the Grammy-nominated Mamou Playboys
@ClaireConrad Depping = deputising = standing in for - Jamie Bearb is a stunning fiddle player normally, but was standing in for Kevin Dugas on this occasion.
Hey Aussie, take a trip to Louisiana, these Cajuns are awesome good people. They like to have a good time as you can see & hear. Cajun food is wonderful too. One of the last colorful cultures still left here in the USA
Is there more than one Mulate's? I went to New Orleans for the weekend in April of this year. I went to Mulate's twice and loved it. The music is awesome, service is wonderful and food was delicious. This was in the warehouse district, across the street from Riverwalk.
Yup, there are two of them that I know about. I don't think there are any others, but I could be wrong. I went to the Breaux Bridge location. It is a fun place with good food and night life!
Wonderful sounds. So this is Mulate's...that's the thing about places in novels, they are given a quality of being semi-mythical. You could expect detective Dave Robicheaux to walk in at any time here.
This has brought back some memories....I am sitting here in San Antonio enjoying this vid over and over again. I hope to head back that way some day.....big sigh ....anyway AWESOME SONG!
Mother - of - God. I am literally getting choked up as I listen to this. WHO ARE THESE GUYS?!!! What is the name of that song? I'm buying it tomorrow!!!!
I remember on our way from Atlanta to Arizona we were told to stop at Mulates where they have great Cajun food. We were not told about the music, but when I entered the door I stopped DEAD in my tracks and my jaw just dropped. This music touched my soul and I felt I had come home....without knowing I was even missing something from my life. What does it mean?
I love how the whole family is included in this dancing and fun times. Definitely people of the earth, what God had intended.
Yup this is great music! Thanks for your nice comments! This kind of music is made for everybody to enjoy whether the beleive in a god or not. There are so many to choose from I just decided to heck with any of them, and just sit back and enjoy the music!
I've been stationed in the bayou area in the past, love that cajun music, food and women! Wish there were a club here, but good to hear that sound again!
Amazing that you posted this! We were at Mulate's in March 2007 and it was a high point of our visit. We plan to vacation and snowbird in Louisiana and will make Mulate's one of our regular haunts. Merci!

Incredibly good music, LIVE from Breaux Bridge.
Home of world famous slide guitarist Sonny Landreth.
Anyone planning a trip to Louisiana should try to get there during the Festival International de Louisiane.
Get some incredible food at Mulate's, go to the Festival, maybe even see Sonny and the boys at Grant Street. Things don't get any better than that!
