  • It Must be incredible fast... *_*

I have an old 470 Roga from 1975. without Trapez and spinnaker.. ! but i beat the 420 like an Opti with it... how fast is such a 505 ?

  • 470 forever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Getting out of the 505, owning a 35 ft keel boat now... Still desperately searching the sensation a 505 offers so easily and all the time, no matter upwind or screaming downwind. I will sail at least one regatta this year, but have to reduce weight. The 505 is the best boat on this planet and will live forever!

  • what is this song called

  • No spinnaker... Disappointing

  • incredible reaching!!! the boat was flat the whole time

  • Come on boys, Put the kite up, show them how us REAL Sailors sail :D

  • Now I'm looking far a 5O5 in good condition manufactured betwen1992-2002 let's say - problem seem to be the money, budget of max 4500E. I hope I will find something. I have sailed this boat onece - I love it, it will be a good step for me to move on from the Finn to this boat.

  • My dad sailed 505s in Singapore in the early 70s.

I'd love one but you need to find a gorrilla for a crew.

Boats like 4000s make that sort of rush more accessible.

Problem is l4ks are unstable boats and incredibly hard to sail in low winds due to the rolly polly nature of the hull and wing combination.

Not quite as hairy chested but still awesome.

    Always wanted a 505...

    :-))))

  • @edshift

I don't think you need a gorilla for a crew. it really isn't like the Star that way...

  • @vibratingstring Yes I was way underweight when I sailed one but it wasn't too bad. did well in light airs . It is such a good design that compared to some fast dinghies it is quite easy to sail.

  • @edshift I started sailing in Singapore in the late 70's and remember the 5o5's well. Guys like Jeffrey Leow, Alan Barnes and Alan Croll dominated the class back then. As a kid I thought they were the most amazing boats and having just had a good stickybeak at the fleet at Hammo for the 2011 Worlds, they still are.

  • i am now seriously considering a 505...

  • Nothin' is like a good 505!

  • Wow! Great post.

  • THE classic high performance sailing dinghy

  • How may knots is there? when i brought my BC youth race team down to merrit it looked like similar conditions superb! where is this?

  • That´s sailing, super!

  • put up the spinnaker!!!

  • Correction, fall.

  • Watching this in Canada, in the winter, is depressing.

  • I used to sail FD and trained with some 505's ...awesome little boats: the FD was upwind much faster in all conditions but downwind in a good blow the 505 shattered us to pieces ;)

  • 5o5 is by far the best dinghie i ever sailed. too sad it's not an olympic class...

  • It's better that 505 was not an olympic class, look at the FD, his developemnt was dead since it was out from olympic status, meantime the 505 it's in always in developement.

505 it's a real monster class, I've got one and I think it's the best boat I've evere owned.

    I will never change it!!!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • Children Of The Sandstorm by "Darude vs. Robert Miles".

  • Il 505 è la deriva più bella del mondo!

  • That was amazing!

Kudos to the sailors because trapezing is hard!

How hard was the wind blowing??!

It looked like you guys were almost airborn sometimes!!

  • He should practice putting the spi up and getting on the helmsmans shoulders.

  • captures the feel of dinghies, nothing like it. from a fireball sailer

  • Agreed from a 420 sailor

  • Awesome vid, Awesome sailers...great vid

  • AWESOME!! jeeez this must be 1 of the biggest thrills on the planet, to sail like that!!

mind, body , co-sailer, mother nature and boat in perfect harmony.. love it.

  • Majestic. I'm almost mesmerised by half-way through.

This shows the sort of stuff that got me hooked on dinghy sailing.

  • a farnd the music it "children of the sandstorm" by darude vs robert miles

  • wats the music plz

  • tacks suck. Jibes...hahaha. My opti kids can do better than that. Their 9

  • 505's and 470's are the best!

i sailed 420's and then i tried out a 470 and it was obviously soo much faster, you could even tell in light light wind

  • if i was sailing these on this day i would go for the kite your training so it dosen't matter if you capsize and when your racing you would never decide to not put up the spinniker well i would

  • OK they are good but what kind of slow jibing was that @2:18

  • except with the kite up!! :D

  • nice man i sail a 405 and it like nothing compared 2 you guys

  • I love the way some of you post your expert criticisms about this video, the crew and how they are sailing.

This crew finished 26th out of 92 in the '07 Worlds. Can you do better?

  • Pretty smooth and fast boat, but not sailing fast, only flying low. Nice boat, good crew. Maybe like other people said, it's not so fabulous for someone who...maybe sailed a FD for example, but for someone like me, a FINN skipper, this boat looks and runs really ok.

  • While back I seen someone out on Bambi yank the sails off and winchup a kitechute.Like more they layback and furtuer the kite was out the greater the knots.Never seen a little guy move like they did. Ever seen anyone do that before?

  • slamdeath ur sailing instructor doesn't no squat about sailing in heavy wind

  • ahh isnt sailing just the best x

  • I don't care what the jerk below said... the vid is kewl (I don't sail).. and I enjoyed. btw: I think the music is a remix of "Sandstorm".

  • yerr good point lol

  • looks awesome guys and everything but there is a problem, my sailing instructor taught me this that while your going fast it can be dangerous but u guys look lyk ur sitting 2 far bak and the point of the boat is 2 high making the bak of the boat sink and make drag, of course it can make u wipe out but it works for more speed

  • Your sailing instructor probably wouldnt be able to sail in that boat in that wind

  • When you are back like that the bow is out of the water so there is less drag.

  • hmm. this really depends on the wind, and where its coming from. but your sailor instructor is right, if your sitting too far back you just create a unnessesary drag. but if theres a heavy wind you need to sit far back in the boat to prevent the bow from going under the water, unless you're sailing a submarine ;) ask me, i know how it is to sail a submarine, IT'S WET!

  • wuau

  • whats the name off the song?

  • im gettin a 505 and i searched up some videos about them and omg lol now i love them lol

  • What a great design these boats are. designed in 1953.Years ahead of their time.I last sailed one 36 yearz ago.Not too dificult to sail either.

  • This is far from extreme 505 sailing -- wind is blowing a five tops, no spi-- c'mon. While they may impress their girlfriends as hot dogs, these guys are WAY too far aft on a reach, tacking when they should be gybing and doing it clumsily at that!

  • great vid! why not with spi?

  • Great sailing, n e one got footage of worlds 2007? i was supposed 2 go.. missed out...(sponsorship)

  • da passiert nix

  • i know this tune is a remix

but, what is the name of this tune

  • it sounds alot like sandstorm to me

  • It's a mashup of Sandstorm by Darude and Children by Robert Miles.

  • absolutly great video

this is the best kind of sailing!!!

  • See you in Adelaide!

    Tom DEN 8826

  • Great video!!! I have to sail 505 soon in this strong wind or will go crazy :)
