It's a shame Royal Tara have started to go down the Feis route now, wearing solo dresses and wigs and dancing feis style steps, such a shame! They were such lovely Festival dancers.
I don't know why it's called Aoibhell. The tune was written by Francis Ward, and I assume the dance was named after the song, so you'd have to ask him!
I only took a workshop with Ruth and two of her students while studying for my MA at the University of Limerick last year. I would have loved to have done more! Unfortunately I can't find festival dancing anywhere here in the US....
I don't dance for Royal Tara, but I learned the set from Ruth Long of the Royal Tara School. They are in the Belfast area, with classes in Carrickfergus, Larne and Carnlough.
Hello and greetings from Limerick. I was in the audience when you performed this live. You perfectly demonstrated the emotive power of elegant and graceful dance, for it brought tears to my eyes. Please look up the KQED clip about the Irish Dance community in San Francisco. It must be 100F (40C) in Chico. It's cold here in Limerick.
Festival style is an Irish dance style from Northern Ireland, around Belfast. It's similar to the more popular styles of Irish dance promoted by organizations like An Coimisiun or An Comhdhail, but the slip jigs and set dances are much slower and I think more elegant. It's a beautiful style!
Thank you! Yes, I'm CLRG but I wish I'd learned about Festival style a long time ago. I love it! It's graceful and strong at the same time and I feel like it requires another level of artistry to perform. I'm trying to spread the word about Festival style!

I really enjoyed this, very elegant and beautiful. The steps went to the music so very, very well. What is Festival style?

That was beautiful, Kate. So elegant! You began with CLRG, correct? How do you find Festival dancing in comparison to the Commission?
