their next album- coming out in 2010 they say is going to be something unexpected and grungier than the rest so whoever said they are more pop orriented- you are wrong. they have a range unlike some bands who come out with albums after albums that sound exactly the same.

KOL will always be my favourite band no matter how their sound changes,

so if you really were a "true" fan, you would respect them and their choices.

it's definitely too far too blame the band for trying the sound out, but people aren't going to get all the way behind a band when they don't like the album. I for one, believe they will make tons of great new records to come, and still love them, but i still don't like sex on fire. I think that their new album is a good thing. So many people had 'never really listened' to KOL before Sex On Fire, but now they're going back a few years and appreciating their old stuff now that they know about the band.

They'll probably have more freedom now that they have a larger fan base. They'll sell more records and concert tickets, which means more money and that means more freedom for bigger music videos and more concerts.

Thats exactly how it happened for me. I heard Sex on Fire on Alt Nation on Sirius Radio and ever sense I've been listening to their old stuff and really love it. Getting radio play helps them get fans that don't really go out of their way to find new music.

Touring with bands like U2 and pearl jam exposed them to different sounds which they incorperated into their music. A true fan would evolve along with them, not critisize them.
